The number of people commenting about censorship are missing the point here! Try watching the whole clip, or even the doc itself before you comment! This documentary isn't about censoring political content on the left or right, its about social media conglomerates outsourcing the job of removing the worst and sickest stuff posted on social media to companies in the Philippines who pay lousy wages and offer little support to their employees. This isn't about Trump or Putin or ISIS, its about the poor people who sit there for 8 hours a day weeding out the videos of cats being lit on fire.
All these comments just shows how divided America seems to be politically that they make everything about politics. This is a bit worrying to say the least.
Do you seriously believe that "weeding out the videos of cats being lit on fire." is what they do there? Don't be naïve, it's just a front to censorship truths and opinions these companies don't agree with. Here's a few of them, try posting them and see what happens. Positive view on holocaust revisionism Criticism towards Israel Criticism towards the invasion of the first world by the third world Positive viewing on enemies of the USA (Iran, Assad, etc.)
This has been going on for decades...and now you're surprised? What about the kids who makes shoes for decades...or 10+n other things? Service desks usually outsourced to India for decades also...so this is nothing new...
There are "cleaners" all over the world. These filmmakers just focused on the Filipino Cleaners' disadvantages because some or most of their employers do not give rightful compensation and professional counseling.
People should upload photos and videos of flowers and cats and nice things, and then report them. Maybe they can make somebody's day a little less nightmarish :)
I work as a content moderator for 2 years. Most of the content what we were moderating about naive lives between people, bullying, hate speech and slur. What I suffered from was the repetitive work
I live in the Philippines. While content moderation is a booming career in my country (and despite the seemingly enticing pay it offers),and despite having the skills required to be a content moderator (or in other words, a "deleter"), I opted not to venture into this type of job after considering its effects to my mental health. Especially since this issue is something that is yet to be properly addressed in my country and the proper medical/ psychologicalinterventions to issues related to this gruelling job aren't well-established yet.
Well i can be a facebook cleaner tho. Nowadays people doesn't care about how there job would affect them selves as long as they have job in philippines this is what life is.I see it as opportunity.
It seems like if you need an algorithm to remove disturbing sexual and hateful material (or other banned content), there may be a problem with who is making that material how it is getting made and maybe where it is made. I think instead of hitting a button to say upload a video, Facebook and google (or other companies) should require some real information before someone is allowed to share any material. I am just saying it is so easy to share information these days on social networking and some of these people who share material that is just going to be deleted are probably going to do so again.
The problem is that the truth has become "nasty things". They're not just censoring violent content. They're censoring anyone who points out the lunacy of our current social climate.
If conservative ideologies are e.g. racism hell yeah the content is going to get deleted just like isis stuff, what's so hard to understand about that?
They're not censoring conservatives, they're working to prevent people seeing disturbing and traumatizing things such as child pornography, beheadings etc. but sure go on - make it all about politics.
it's not censorship. These people posting videos inciting harm against others, are in violation of the ToS. Also "emotional toll" haaa haha haa you should talk to call center agents that have to deal with the American public. Watch a graphic video long enough to decide if it should be banned, or be screamed for 30+ mins by some a**hole that you're not allowed to hang up on. Then have your job ranking and pay determined by how they respond to the survey they get... just saying, I'd take the cleaner job. Well, if it pays more. =]
Lord Pupeschaft, your taxes are going to what? Theyrectalking about social media policing itself. Not the government. CBC also is funded by advertising, yet not influenced by it like private corporate media.

Bill McGregor Finally a rational comment! Thank you for that '

But of course. . . Just like they "scrub" Alex Jones, certain UA-cam Channels and Twitter posts. . .

Really well done to these guys. True investigative journalists... a rare breed nowadays.

We should be happy that certain contents never reach us....

+1
360 dollar a month. Abuse to Filipino workers
A Filipino horror film about content moderator was just recently released in the Philippines
deleter starring nadine lustre
They even replicated the Vice News interview, with the mask and everything
People should upload photos and videos of flowers and cats and nice things, and then report them. Maybe they can make somebody's day a little less nightmarish :)
Late but 70% of the planet is filled with dark minded bozos

Pretty sure the purpose in this documentary is the mental health of the cleaners bc of the things they see.
Not fair. Please help these people.
This shows how resources are not being focused on actually preventing crimes. So they are complicit with the violations to innocence.
where can i watch the full documentary?
where can I watch this?

You have a Guy Fawkes likeness as your profile picture, yet here you are defending censorship, oh the irony.
You will lose your mind im tellin you.

The trouble with the cleaners is they are cleaning with dirty rags

Do they need to finish the video or once it's bad they can delete it already?
There are things you need to be analytic. Better finish the video in details to avoid mistakes.
Isn’t this censorship of other ideologies, mostly conservative
Only if conservatives are more likely to threaten people or spread hate. But that can't be the case, right?
The problem is that the truth has become "nasty things". They're not just censoring violent content. They're censoring anyone who points out the lunacy of our current social climate.
I enjoy that you are equating conservative ideologies with ISIS propoganda and other things that are removed from social media lol
If conservative ideologies are e.g. racism hell yeah the content is going to get deleted just like isis stuff, what's so hard to understand about that?

Where can you find this documentary?
in totonto
If the cleaners experience PTSD, how is therapy supposed to help? It won't over the long term.
Bro you have no idea what therapy is
Not just Philippines. When one publishes something in Ukrainian it takes a while for it to get censored.
Blow up the fckng internet.

Umm....my taxes are going to this and so are yours. Cbc is taxpayer funded.
Lord Pupeschaft, your taxes are going to what? Theyrectalking about social media policing itself. Not the government. CBC also is funded by advertising, yet not influenced by it like private corporate media.
that would suck
How to be one of them?

Please think a lot of times before you venture into this kind of job. It's not as easy as you think.
KaYa paLa may deLeter
So you mean, "They'll delete conservative material, and leave liberal"....a lot like this channel.
How do you apply ?? what company ?
Anyone else get a chuckle out of the interviewer's Twitter handle going up at the beginning of the interview? Irony...
The Intro made my dog wait 9min for the walk. I bite it, lol.
Wow didn’t know this happens on Facebook can’t they
Call police to help the victims
Poor butters
Philippines? How do I get this work?

Some more "bullyhunters" garbage lmao
At least these Jannies get paid HAHAHA
Those are probably the same cleaners that help Killary with her lil email problem!!!
