For some, it's because they are focusing on the melody, technic, delivering the song etc. For others it's because while singing, sometimes it's easier to change the pronunciation slightly (often vowels) to connect words. What you are referring to is dialect or accents and work differently. It's often in their vowels too that you can hear the difference. I'm not good at explaining cause this is not my expertise, but the moral of the story is: don't be rude to other people when you don't know the whole truth.
