BTW: There are a bunch of anime-only scenes in arc. Like that bar, Zoro at that marine base (He never broke Tashigi's glasses), Smoker didn't know about Luffy till later, And Luffy being lost. Loguetown arc was only 5 chapters long (Oda wanted The East Blue Saga to end on chapter 100).
Its my headcanon, but Luffy slowly climbing the execution platform, and not stretching straight up, is symbolic. That platform is where the King was, Luffy has to slowly reach it, and Not just bypass everything with a Stretchy arm.

As for Smoker's voice actor, he died almost 23 years ago. This will be a recurring theme in One Piece. Mihawk's original voice wasn't in that many episodes either - though to be fair, neither was the character.
Hi Mikey! Cool reaction a ever! I want to talk a little about the "filler adictions" in this episode. In manga Zoro just saw Tashigi fight the bandits and them leave talking to himself how much this girl looks like Kuina. He did not break her glases or go to marines to do the cleaning. He only find Tashigi again at the sword shop (this part yes, totally canon). Also all those parts in Gold Roger Bar are fillers too, and Smoker didn't pursue Luffy to the execution platform. But, here is my point.... All those aditions just turn the story better! Tht's why I always say to several YT's: don't jump the fillers! Choose not react if it comes to be the problem, but watch it at least! Not only you have blended canon info in the middle of the fillers, but also the animtion give a "well rounded" adiction to "weird blunt cuts" from the manga. And, if you deslike something put on filler you may comment about it like anone who watched this anime.
@@MikeyVenture There are some cool stuffs that the animation plot out of manga. Kind of you see some background images from wanted posters for exemple, of criminals that appeared or will appear in movies or extras. I think this is kind of cool to increase the amplitude of OP universe. By the way, in that famous video "THe Breathtaking World of OP" most of that images are from movies and TV Extras (and even fillers). And one good aspect about it is that the story quality did not drop (in my opinion), and give us more time with the strawhats daily.

Beware that some stuff in Loguetown is filler, though filler that's written around the intial plan for how the arc would've played out if Oda would not have given in to one of his obsessions - making certain things happen in exact chapter numbers. another thing, the showrunners of the LiveAction stated that within their intial outline for season 1, Loguetown would've been episodes 9+10. but since their budget ran out, they had to cut these two episodes altogether. Let's hope that putting Loguetown in S2 won't hurt what come after :D

We've seen a few portrayals of Roger's execution, but this one here is still my favourite. He just has that aura of being a king. Also, in the live action you can see a young Smoker in one shot in the opening scene, as well as someone else who shows up in this arc.

Do you believe what comes out of Tashigi's mouth. Zoro having wife and kids really. What does she get this stuff from a book. Don't the Marines question the bounties they just take them at face value. How is having Two hundred thousand berries being broke? Zoro is not broke.

It's not a spoiler, yes, most were cheering cuz he died. No doubt some were cheering because of the treasure though. Remember, 90% of the pirates in the one piece world are civilian murderers. They are all hated by the public.
I say this eveery reaction, but i love how...mythic, legendary they portray gold roger here. He FEELS more than human here. also my theory was always that smoker became a marine to ensure no pirate ever steals Roger's legacy.
Loguetown is an interesting combination of manga and anime canon. The scene with Zoro in the shop getting his swords, including Tashigi, that's in the manga. Luffy wandering around lost isn't. Zoro tossing that sword up in the air is oddly dramatic in the manga. I'm not really sure how Oda managed it, but it is. The main thing here is that anime canon in One Piece is still canon. The scenes themselves may not necessarily be in the manga, but the conclusion of each is. That may be part of why they feel a little bit different. Intros and titles start to get a lot more spoilery from this point as well. The fun part is they don't always come at the same time, so that's exciting. My first time through I watched the intros anyway, and what I personally found was that while they spoiled stuff, I didn't know enough to be truly spoiled. There is a point further down however where that does happen.
Not a spoiler and never directly talked about but it seems like some devil fruit users consume things that relate to their abilities. Like how Luffy eats a lot of meat which sort of makes sense cause his flesh is always stretching cause of the Gomu Gomu no Mi or how Smoker smokes a lot cause his devil fruit turns him into smoke. So maybe in some ways smoking a lot might be a way of recharging faster after a long fight of using his devil fruits powers. There are a few other devil fruit users out there that eat foods similar to their abilities but I don't want to mention who they are cause we haven't them yet.
Smoker is a good dude. I was so afraid when the girl got ice cream on him the first time i watched this because i thought he'd be like all the other crooked marines up to that point.

There’s a rumor that Roger’s “mustache” was originally supposed to be really long nose hairs which is why they look like that. Pretty sure it’s apocryphal but Oda is such a comedian that it’s easy for people to believe.

Pint glass, half rum, half mixer (I recommend ginger beer (NOT ginger ale)), down it in 15 minutes on an empty stomach, very happy for the next 3-4 hours. Not for work nights. And pour another one if it's been a bad month.

Though the Roger Execution scene isn’t because like the live action, it's the first page of the series. Loguetown is unusual because filler is mixed into cannon material. Its not horrible, but it drags it out.
