Found some Turkey Tails in Cumbria U.K 😃lookin forward to making this, thank you so much for such a fun easy to follow video; how many drops of tincture do you take?
Apologies, I’ve just read the post lower down where you answer that ☺️
No worries... thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!!
@@WildMeatLetsEat Hello again, wondering if you have any thoughts on dosage for post viral fatigue.. 🍄🦹♀️🙏
Sure...
Fat fingers... yes, no more than 3 times a day... 6ml each time should help.
Great video. I'll tell you my method for turkey tail alcohol extraction. I clean the mushrooms, trim where attached to the log, pop into a high speed blender with some chicken stock and a shot of white wine or sherry. Blend for about a minute, toss in a pot and thicken at a slow boil. Add some heavy cream and whatever else you want and you'll have the best cream of mushroom soup ever. I know they are medicinal but they work great blended into soup. Their flavor is very similar to oyster mushrooms- mild and pleasant- not woody or fibrous at all. You don't need to blend 100%. The bits that don't get blended become soft. I collect a bunch in July- clean, dry and toss in the pantry. I pull out whenever I want a quick bowl of great tasting soup.
Keith - Very cool... I've always utilized this mushroom in tincture. You mentioned the taste is a little like oysters... Does it have that almond flavor? Thanks
I know what you mean about the oysters having a slight almond taste and I wouldn't say the turkey tail has that same flavor- just very mild. The first time I decided to try turkey tail was when I felt a cold coming on. I didn't want to wait for the tincture so I just threw in the blender with some chicken stock, blended and cooked. I remember thinking it was going to be horribly bitter and probably chalky like an old chicken of the woods. But after I drank some, all I could think was,"wow this is pretty good!". So now it's my go to for a quick mushroom stock or soup.
@@WildMeatLetsEat where to get it
@@nalwangapatricia1379 if you can't find any in the wild. I would recommend searching online... there are plenty of sites that offer quality turkey tail. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!
Nice!
You know who HATES mushrooms and their healing qualities the MOST?
Big pharma!!! nobody hates big pharma more than I! these are growing all over my yard in FairfaxCa on 3 yr old dead live Oaks.
thankls for the info - I will be using this info soon:)
Yes! Yes! We need to learn as much as we can and shift the power! Thanks for watching and happy hunting!
Paul Stamets says 90% of pharmaceutical is still derived or replicated from nature. They know who rules
They won't hate it as soon as more people again start to look at natural medicine, noe young people as well. UA-cam is a powerful tool for spreading info
@@THEREALInfamousP yeah and natural (quality) medicine often contains other compounds that work in similar ways or make it work even better or reduce side effects. Of course not the case for all natural medicine, but for a lot.
boil the strained mushrooms in water, strain again, and then simmer until very little liquid is left, then combine with alcoholic tincture = dual extraction tincture
when you say combine with Alcohol tincture. your taking the mushrooms and covering with alcohol not a premade tincture ?
Great video, I like how you crushed it up before hand. I put my mushrooms in whole but will now go back and blend them up! Then only way you could improve on this recipe is after the alcohol extract is done, simmering the leftover crushed mushroom in hot water for a few hours, about the same volume of water than the alcohol. Then you can blend the water into the alcohol making a double extract. It also ensures you are keeping the final tincture about 30% alcohol which maximizes shelf life. Too high of alcohol can degrade the medicinal compounds.
Yes a dual extraction is best... thanks for the tip... 30% alcohol increases shelf life, I was not aware. I've done dual extraction many times and did not realize I was increasing the shelf life. Thanks again for the info and thanks for watching! Happy hunting to ya!
I didn't realize high alcohol content degraded the compounds. I have just picked some TT from my yard to make a tincture. I've never done this before, so I will keep that in mind. Thanks!
Thank you for the lesson! Just yesterday our family was blessed with the knowledge of our hardwood stumps for the kids to hop on are covered in turkey tail! For those that don't want to use alcohol to make a tincture, you can make a turkey tail extract using raw ACV with the mother. Doesn't last as long as an alcohol tincture, but it is much healthier for you and cheaper to make.

Its an early thaw here in western ny. I was able to tap some maple trees today and collect some sap. I have been drinking the sap for a couple of years and swear by its awesomeness. This year I will use it as my base for my turkey tail tea, talk about you're double wammy ! I have been drinking the turkey tail tea for about a month and feel a definite increase in my overall energy level. I am ready to do my first tincture. I have also read some good things about Burdick root and will be incorporating that in my heath regiment as well. For those of you that have access to maple trees I recommend trying the sap ! Thank you for the wealth of your knowledge and advice ! Mark
That sounds fantastic!! Maple sap and turkeytail... what an excellent way to incorporate all kinds of goodness into your system! Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!
We camped ,hunted ,trapped and tapped our maples every fall , my family traplines ranged from Indiana to Canada. I loved the sap and syrup, tasting it as it cooked, some maple sugar at the end . Got sick plenty from too much but learned to balance and enjoy . I miss it now badly.
I like the grinder idea for making the tincture but that would be good for the tea too.
Yes... however you would need to strain it... or use a cheese cloth when you simmer. Thanks for the comments!

@@WildMeatLetsEat Hi Mr Eat, if I dehydrate turkey tail, crush in a coffee and then put it into capsules do I lose much of its benefits? I've read its great defence against viruses but I've also read the human body doesn't digest turkey tail well.
@@dozzer536 the only way you'll receive the medical benefits is with a hot water extraction or alcohol... grinding it and putting it in a capsule is just like eating it... not much benefit if any. If you see it in capsule form in the store... remember all the extraction was done in a lab and a controlled environment. Hope that helps and Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome and happy hunting to ya!!
I am in the process of making my first batch. I couldn't believe how easy the coffee grinder was. I used a dehydrator for a day or so and then broke the Turkey Tail into smaller pieces. I was wondering if a coffee filter in one of those small single cup serving gizmos wouldn't work. I'll try it and let you know. It did not work well with the elderberry tincture that I made; it started out well, but then just stopped dripping... I love this video. Thank you.

I have the same recipe for the alcohol extract. After the alcohol extract is finished I like to use the leftover material to make a hot water decoction. Then add about 5-6 ounces of the reduced decoction to the alcohol. Basically a dual extract.
Yes!! A dual extraction is the way to go. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!
If i have 1 liter of alcohol extraction, how much water i need to add on leftover material?
After boiling of leftover material in water, after procedure is over how much liquid i need to have at the end?
Do i mix in the same bottle alcohol extraction and water extraction?

I found Turkey Tail in my local area. I have dried and stored them in a jar. I make tea with them and add lemon grass and honey. I love your way of preserving. In Australia we are lucky to 60% alcohol, higher amounts are illegal. Can you use lower percentage and get the same results. Cheers, great video.
Thanks! If you can get vodka... 40% alcohol should work. I realize that's only 80 proof however you could let the mushrooms marinate longer... let's say 8 to 10 weeks before you strain. So yes it will still work... it just takes longer. The reverse is true too. The higher the proof the less time it needs. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! Happy hunting to ya!
@@WildMeatLetsEat Cheers, ❤
You some good funk music.
Great content! Have you tried evaporating off the alcohol? If so would love to know what kind of oil is left behind. You could then mix that with a wide range of other carrier oils, like olive oil, etc.

Hello, I loved your video. How do I grow from scratch? I have the wood to grow these Turkey Tail mushroom. I too would use it for health reason. Thank you for making this sooo easy.
Thank you. Im not sure you can grow turkey tail. I would check with Field & Forest products, they focus on specialty mushrooms. I think there's no need to grow this mushroom from scratch... it's so abundant and once you harvest it just dry it for later use but definitely check with Field & Forest they may sale the spores. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!!!
Hi, I loved the video, I wanted to ask if I do a tea, when should I proceed to make it? after or before the 6 weeks of alcohol? or should I just put the mushroom in hot water for a few minutes?
If you're interested in tea only... before the alcohol, however if you're going to do a daul extraction then always after alcohol.... when it comes to the length of time making mushroom tea... you'll hear anything from 30min. 1,2,3,6 and even 24hrs steep time. For this mushroom I think 20, 30 or 45 is fine... don't be legalistic. Yes some mushrooms require a much longer time however it's not a one size fits all. Turkey tail is very mild and not that bitter... I hope that helps and enjoy. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!

Thanks, I'm glad to share. Thank you for watching and happy hunting to ya!
Good video answering lots of questions on making the medicine. What dosage do you use on a regular basis ? With my chaga extraction I typically use a couple drops a day in my tea or coffee . Would this be the same ?
Yes! I do 6ml under the tongue once a day and twice a day depending on how I feel. The coffee will work just fine. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!
Hi. Love your videos. First time making this & I’m super excited! How do you store the mixture for the six weeks? In a cupboard away from light & heat? Would appreciate any info please. Thanks & God bless 😊
Yes that will work. I store mine under the kitchen sink. Remember to shake it up every two or three days and you'll be good to go. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!
Soo, once you have the tincture made how much do you use? Do you do anything with the mushrooms after straining? Is there any more medicinal use for them? TIA!
Great vid! Can u tell us how much you take and how often? Thanks!
I take one 6 ml dropper under the tongue at night before bed but if I'm not feeling well... I'll take it twice a day, morning and night. I do this until I start feeling better, then I'll go back to once a day for health maintenance. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!
Thank you for making this process easy to go by😊
Just one thing can I wash the turkey tail in water?
You're welcome and yes but don't soak them... just run it under some water. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!
Hello, I love your video. I'm from Ecuador. I'm trying to cultivate these mushrooms. Do you have some recommendations for their fruiting?
Sorry for the delay in responding... are you asking how to force fruit?
Phenomenal video! Do you double- extract? Do you alcohol extract and then take the powder and make a tea?
Dual extractions... yes however most of the time I just use each extraction separately. Yes, always make the alcohol extraction 1st them use the leftover mark to make the hot water extraction. Hope that helps and thanks for your interest.
how can you use the leftover material, pls? mabe boil it and drink?
Great easy video! How much of three tincture do you use and how often? Do you know what the difference is in using the alcohol, then water soak extraction methods? Does it make it any more beneficial?
Thanks! A dual extraction will give you the best of both worlds. The simple answer is... The video you just watched is for anti-inflammatory... a tea or decoction is more of an immune system modular. Now, there are many more health benefits, and I would encourage you to check in to all the wonderful things this mushroom has to offer. Dose: I will take 6ml under the tongue once or twice a day, depending on how I feel. Usually, I don't take it longer than a week or two. Remember, this is what I do, and each person is a little different. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!!
Hi, awesome video. Where do you leave your jar during extraction? Is it best in the dark, direct sunlight etc. Thanks!
Thanks... I like a dark cool place. In a cabinet will work, just remember to shake it up every 3 days or so. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!!!
Hi, love your videos. Have you ever tried putting the tincture into a double boiler and burning off the alcohol? What would be left, I believe, would be the pure oils. I do that with cannabis for the thc and cbd for cancer treatment. Thanks.
Thank you! No I've never tried it... it would be interesting to see if it worked. If you try it please let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!!
When you use the double boiler and reduce cannabis flower with Ever Clear, you are making Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO!
Let it get to about 160 degrees, but not much more, and dont reduce it too much, as it will reduce to a heavy tarr,
But It has to get above 155 to release the wonderful Oils though.
Mix the reduced portion about 1 part RSO with about 4 parts Coconut Oil, and store in the brown dripper bottles.
It greatly reduces my back pain (especially helpful to get to sleep), when my wife rubbs it on my lumbar, and provides several hours of Relief!
Be Very Careful if added to coffee, and Do Not Drive or operate Machinery, as you Will need to go to bed if you use a big drop!!
And if you are subject to drug test, you will Fail.
This is why Big Pharma lobbies CONNgress to keep it, and Many other homeopathic Natural medical remedies illegal.
Be Careful until you learn the amount that provides the Relief you need.
May God Bless you with the Benefits of the plants he Created, for our short life in this realm.
Peace!!

How much do you take at a time? Thank you so much for the video!! I’m new and excited to make teas and tinctures.
About 6ml under the tongue... roughly one dropper full. I take it once or twice a day depending on how I feel. As a newbie take your time while learning... you'll soon find out there are many different ways to make teas and tinctures but don't get overwhelmed. I focus on the old school methods because it's less cumbersome and fairly simplistic but just about all of them work well enough to extract medical value from the mushroom. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Just an FYI you can flavor the alcohol tincture with pg candy flavoring or flavors used in marijuana dab manufacturing to make a strawberry tincture or whatever flavor you like. Takes the edge off
Very Cool!! I'll have to try that... Thanks for sharing.
Does the dry process you do first replace the need for a double extract? I know a second extract is a matter of choice and I don't really know if there's enough benefit.
No... the drying is only for storage purposes. The only reason for a dual extraction is to get the best of both worlds at the same time... I just do them separately and typically drink more tea. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!!
Super cool my brother, but i have a question. How much should you use, how many times a day and for how many days, i love learning things like this, and also what would be the main purpose of taking this, it would be super nice if you replied, if not, no worries still great info. Thanks

1/2 cup of raw shea butter
1 tablespoon of homemade reishi juice (hot water extract)
1 teaspoon of organic ginger powder

wonder if u could speed up the extraction process a little by having it on magnetic stirrer ?
