This is a fantastic time of year to get to know waders, those (often) long-legged birds of coast, marsh and farmland. With their numbers boosted by visitors from the frozen north, waders can put on spectacular shows as flocks whirl across the shoreline.
In this free online event for RSPB members we'll take you through a range of common wader species before moving on to some that you might be lucky to see during the colder months. Find out what waders need and how the RSPB is working to ensure they have the food, habitat and protection they need to survive the winter.

Thank you for this. I've not long moved to Cleethorpes and have finally got around to going out with binoculars and walking the beach and shore of The River Humber. This is going to help esp. as I've become rusty with bird id. Cheers!
That was fabulous. I only intended to look in for a few minutes on a busy morning and ended up watching the whole lot. Wildfowl and waders aren't my forte so it was really useful as well as enjoyable. Cheers! :)

what can you see at Titchwell Marsh?
Pretty much any of the waders mentioned in the video might well turn up, and you'd be unlucky not to see at least Avocets and Golden Plover this time of year. Make sure to walk right down to the beach, where godwits and Sanderling are often to be found.
