No. This is a pure on paper buff. I think they saw the critics (maybe coming from yeatle fall of ball video) and now they needed to change something. Like in 2 situations in this video the buff secured a kill. They want a ram/sig meta now and thats why they gave ball no big changes. I kinda see dive meta in s8 again, they will give sig in mid s7 a small buff like with ram and this will it.
blizzard loves doing weird microbuffs and you are exactly historically accurate, there will be a microbuff that makes him meta but we are like, at least 4 or 5 away from that (if the buffs stay the same size)
I'm not totally convinced that sombra doesn't still screw ball. As far as I can tell, a full clip and virus actually does a tiny bit more than hacking and dumping a full clip into ball used to do, so I think if she just sits in her team and does nothing but deny ball, I think she can still give him a lot of trouble. She's definitely easier to kill now, and also easier to keep track of, so that's still better, at a minimum. I would love to hear more opinions though since I'm plat and don't really understand everything about the sombra-ball matchup.
Basically what pibble said, you don't even have to leave your team to deal with sombra anymore. Ball won the 1v1 against sombra easily, the problem before was that you had to look for specific downtime to chase sombra or look for trans, now you don't have to. Sombra herself wasn't even a counter to ball before, they both soft countered each other, however, now you actually get to play with your team more when there is an enemy sombra, meaning you have more uptime and more value. Hack was easy to cancel or bait out, you just couldn't punish sombra as easily before because she could tp to safety. Spy checking is also significantly better, since she can't tp to safety as easily or go invis whenever she wants. If you are actively chasing sombra, by the time she throws her trans, you know exactly where she will be and you will have grapple available to chase her or spy check where she tp'd to, again, without leaving your team entirely. Good ball players aren't actually scared of sombra, they are scared of chain cc's, which is a different issue entirely. Since she isn't tping to health packs anymore, she has to actively leave her team and do nothing if she wants to deny megas from you. The damage output from sombra is also negated by the fact ball does slightly more damage to her now, with his improved accuracy, which matters more on smaller targets. This change is an absolute win for ball players and I probably haven't even mentioned every reason as to why. Hope this helps. -Ball player

This meant that good sombra players used to hide translocator, hunt for ball, get some easy ult charge, and leave. Now sombras can't do that and that's good. But good sombras will realize that, and what I'm afraid of now is if the sombra camps near her supports or whoever you plan to dive, and just hack you on every piledrive. You used to be able to punish that by hunting translocator, but now there's no option to do that. I don't think good sombra players will seek out ball like they used to, good sombra players will play defensively near her team and stop every engagement.
I still think a tiny CC resistance buff was the way to go with ball. Just replace the 100 guaranteed overhealth from adaptive shield with a 75-100 health spherical shield, like a Zarya bubble; you'd block cheap CCs like hack or hinder, whilst still remaining vulnerable to melee CCs, like bask or punch. Not to mention the shield, being on top of his health stack, would be the first thing depleted, so you'd only get a split-second window to use it to block CCs.
I think kit-wise Sombra is so much more easy to "deal with", but it's takin me a little time to adjust because now she just does a lot of burst damage very quick. The bullet damage increase + virus was a little more dmg than I expected
Sombra rework makes her great against supports and dps. Fucking love that she's not an instant win pick against Doom and ball anymore but shes also more powerful hanging back the team since hack is still strong.
Above all else, healers still just have so much impact that you can have 3 people at 20 hp and they're suddenly all full HP a moment later because a support looked in their general direction

Ball was alraeady goated. I had a 64% winrate with him the last two seasons. Hes my main. This season after 12 games, I won 11 with him and it felt so easy. I could shoot pharas out of the sky. I hope they don't kill him in this midseason patch but I see it coming.

The thing about ball is that it feels like he's immortal unless you cc him which is the one moment you can dump enough damage into him to get the kill. Less cc is good for the game but when a ball gets low & he instantly gets a crap ton of shield health I wonder how I'll even kill him without a sleep or a hinder or smth.
Upping his damage from 5-1.5 (at 15-25m range) to 5.5-1.5 would have been a bigger change.Or changing the range falloff to 15-30m. Instead we got this weird 1% buff instead of a 5-10% buff like most heroes they aren't afraid of get when they need help :P
New sombra kinda feels like ow1 ball tbh. I’ve been playing her h th is season and she’s actually fun now. I still miss using techs and high mechanics to move around, but her playstyle feels kind of like ow1 ball
Ball "buff" is a joke - but my money is on them not wanting to do anything big with the Sombra rework coming through. As a matter of fact, all the balance changes were tiny little baby changes (has there ever been a set of smaller adjustments on like 9 characters in a patch?) If they were to buff ball..it probably won't be this season since Hog's rework is coming. Season 8 has Mauga so probably no buffs there either. But season 9 boys. That is the season of ball. The Sombra rework is actually a buff to tanks - Doom still has it rough with her, but her dmg on Ball is def lower now. Old hack into left click was something like 700 total damage if she emptied a clip and hit all shots (which wasn't hard on ball.) Now it's around 600 for a full clip + virus in the same time period, but she is much more at risk so will often be shooting from farther away probably meaning it's closer to 500 or 400 in reality (before she had no fear to just point-blank your ass.) He sums up every ball's experience at around 33 minutes - "If I have no counters, I never die. If they have 2 counters, I'm useless" And counters are mostly just CC characters. Just give ball lower heatlh but CC resistance already.
Buff's weird but I guess if ball needs a buff what can you really tweak? More survivability would be insane, mobility is already great, damage is already quite high. Would be nice if his ammo went up to 90 or 100.
A slight damage buff to his guns (it's not that high, most of his damage comes from rolls and pd's), a very short cc immunity ability, no body blocking, a smaller hitbox, a fireball buff (something like cc immunity or the ability to actually break things like junk trap in fireball), an actual knockback reduction passive (ball goes FLYING from regular boops), or the ability to knock back tanks, would have worked, but we take what we can get. No ball is ever actually shooting enough to need 100 bullets, because sitting still to shoot is how you get cc'd. There is plenty of small adjustments that could have been made and have been suggested, but the devs don't care to listen to ball players. Even just one of these changes would have made ball actually viable, without making him ridiculously op. Sorry if that was hard to read, I'm tired.

what if ramming into enemies gave shield and dropping on them dispersed the shield as damage and they gave him a small projectile that bounces in arcs towards the direction its shot
Mei is just another reaper to ball, always has been. She's someone else's problem so you deal with her last or do your best to mitigate her value where you can by applying pressure and avoiding getting shot/slowed.

How do you feel about the mei changes? I've heard her primary fire now stops balls fireball boop things absurdly quickly.
She is old mei against. So the old rule: "Avoid her as best as you can" now applys again.
She has a base 40% slow instead of a 30 to 50% which in my opinion 40% is better to have than that stupid 30 to 50% slow.
