I've always wanted to know how co-writing works, especially in terms of writing credit(especially when someone ends up contributing very little) and compensation("equal splits"). Do you find it works out more often than it doesn't? Do you ever find it can sometimes feel like "too many cooks" as the saying goes? So appreciate your thoughts on spreading positivity through music. Thanks so much for the insight, Rob.
Hi Carol! I find that equal splits always works well as long as everyone involved is contributing properly. Good or bad ideas. The bad ones will always lead to the good ones. Sometimes something is so bad that it becomes the great idea! Yes too many cooks can happen. I always suggest 3 writers. Nothing more nothing less. 3 is the magic number.
Talent. Drive. Personality. Great presentation Rob, thank you for the advice!
You are most welcome!
Awesome!!!!!!
Thanks!!
Great information and advice
Wise words from a wise man!!!
Let's just stop at wise words...
"Force of positivity"... I love that!
Bonus points to Chris for reaching the end of the episode!
Thank you for this video Rob. Fabulous advice. How should we do the splits with a producer?
If a producer is involved with the writing of the song then it’s equal splits always. If a producer is just producing, no spilts should be given.

Have you ever thought you had a great idea and someone wanted to change it substantially?
Absolutely. Happens all the time. In that instance I take back the idea and use it for another song.
