- At the same time as the 280 S, 280 SE and 280 SL models, in January 1968, a "New Generation" of intermediate-class cars, too, was presented. The original range of model series W 114/115 comprised six models, from the 200 D with 55 hp 4-cylinder Diesel-engine to the 250 with 130 hp 6-cylinder carburettor-engine. The top model, the Type 250, could be distinguished by its exterior from its more profane brethren; it was the only model to sport a double bumper at the front.
The 4-cylinder Types 200 D to 220 were bracketed together in series W 115, while both 6-cylinder models 230 and 250 were assigned to series W 114. The models of the "New Generation" are called "Stroke Eight" models, a reference to the date of their appearance.

My dad bought, just like this, a M-B 250 -68 in 1972. I was 6 yrs and it made big impression on me. I was used to Ford, Opel, VW and Volvo. This was something completely different. Quality in every detail!

Selten so ein überzeugendes Auto-Werbe-Video gesehen. Wenn ich könnte würde ich sofort zurück reisen in der Zeit und mit dieser Musik in diesem Auto ans Meer nach Südfrankreich fahren... (auch wenn ich erst 1977 geboren bin, sehne ich mich zurück indiese Zeit... Absolut inspirierend und prickelnd...)

There are still many 250D's being used all over the world, many with over a million miles on them. Most of them used as Taxis.
My father had a 280SE when I was a kid, and it was an amazing car. So comfortable and super-reliable.

The W 203 is already rusting in the brochure! Fiat can now do this much better. As far as rust prevention is concerned, Mercedes Benz still has a lot to learn. Mercedes Benz is not paid from the postage box
In my garage is a 1972 250 in perfect condition. I am second owner and love this little tank of a car. Has won at local car shows and is a head turner on the street.

My dad bought one these in 1969 when it was first introduced in the USA. 2 twin barrel Weber carbs, if memory serves. One of the best cars I've ever driven.
Don't think it were Webers. Solex, Stromberg and Zenith were standard carbs on Mercedes.
Solex & Zenith carbies were standard on Mercedes. Very early ones had Strombergs, but these were not efficient. The later W123 250's had a 4 barrel Solex on them.
I read that the first 2500 cc engine was a catastrophic design which always boiled over and warped the head. They quickly changed the engine to 27xx cc without changing the 250-bagde, it had even some cc more than the later 280 model (carb(s)) Even the later W 123 250 had this funny 27xx engine.

My dad drove a 404 Peugeot then. My uncle picked me up from school in this car, when I got home I told my dad 'that car is different, he replied, it's a merc Benz. I was 6 years old then. in 2000, I bought my first car it's was a 260E. I have had 4 mercs since then. I just cannot let them go. My latest is the E350 4matic, my best remains the 260E
I have got a '72 250 2,8L column shifter and two 404, one of them with the 88 hp injection engine.
I like the Benz very much but the 404 is like a pal to go through thick and thin.
This was my first Benz, over 30 years ago! The car that got me hooked on Mercedes-Benz.

We had the 220D. Great car. Solid, reliable and built like a tank. Those were indeed the days when Mercedes-Benz was a pre-eminent
brand, producing quality automobiles. Such a contrast to today's overstyled, nondescript-looking cars and godawful SUVs.
The technical ingenuity, durability of the body paired with elegance have not existed at Mercedes Benz for a long time. A deterrent example is today's Maybach.

Heute werden Autos mit maximalem Profit gebaut, die möglichst schnell wieder kaputt gehen, oder nach 5 Jahren komplett "veraltet" sind.

my first car was a 280S ,and my second a 220D,this last a w115 from 74. Mercedes always a good car ,i can say a all road car, above most of the new cars sold today ,the ones who had them know what i mean ,security and comsumption wise

Always a innovative company
They simply had no real competition in quality and comfort. 4 to six times the price of other cars of it's time , a real prestige factor in the 60 - 70ties
Compared to a Mini or R4 maybe, but they were not that expensive compared to Peugeot 404. Parts prices were horrible, just you never needed any.
Whatever you want to talk about, every part of a merc is great.
A perfect vehicle.
I remember our 250 in Venezuela. Purchased after our W111. I had to get used to this CKD-car as downshifting between 3rd and 2nd never was a pleasure. Driving at night was dangerous, because cattle like goats, donkeys and cows could cross the roads. Roadholding and power in comparison to the 220Sb were a joy, but I missed the space of the W111.

Our first Mercedes Benz was a white 1974 240D. What a car! Build like a tank! It just kept on running! After that, we had a '85 300D, and the 240D was sold to my fathers brother and drove it also for many km's. The 300D was more modern and stronger with it's 3 litre 5 cyliinder, but in my opinion the 240D was of better build quality.
War und ist immer noch ein fabelhaftes Auto, klassische Eleganz, die es heute bei Mercedes Benz nicht mehr gibt, schon gar nicht beim Maybach. Schade😪🤧

Die W 114 / 115 sind eine Zeitlose Eleganz auch heute noch bei den Modernen W ??? wechselt man die Strassen Seite, bevor man sich übergibt.
Mein Vater hatte einen aus diesem Baujahr damals. Erfahrung: Extreem rostanfällig gewesen. Ist aber nen bekanntes Mercedes-Problem auch bei anderen Modellen.

Aber warum gab es denn eigentlich von diesem W114 (- 8'er) ab dem Jahr 1969 niemals "einen 250 E"??? Das ist sehr komisch, denn dieser Motor wurde schließlich in seinem Coupé (C 114) mit einer elektronischen Einspritzanlage und 150 PS eingebaut ! Der 250 / 250 C (R6 Motor) hatte ja als Doppelvergaser-Motor "nur satte 130 PS" an Leistung! ;)
Sehr schönes Auto. Speziell der " 250 " war aber nicht gut. Der Motor war sehr problematisch und hatte kein langes Leben.
