The King's Fist, an impulsive and cunning man known as Lord Captain Brenien Dalthrah, held himself high as he strode fearlessly through the empty, darkened streets. He was dressed in a deep, maroon uniform with white pauldrons and a matching cloak, an ornamental rapier dangling at his hip. Two of his largest guards stood on either side of him, gruff and silent. Soon, a smell reached Brenien's nostrils. Sickly sweet in aroma, and enticing as a night in bed with a woman and bottle of fine wine. A low, fiery glow emanated from one of the alley's ends, flickering as it cast long, quivering shadows. The light came from a tall burn barrel, where several cloaked figures stood around it. The scent grew more pungent the closer he got. These, the Lord Captain knew, were the shadar-kai, the only dealers in all Aroniem who sold the valued Nightrose leaf. "You smell that, lads?" Brenien called to both his entourage and the grey-skinned elves. "Take a deep breath through the nose!" The shadar-kai turned, movements slow and concise. Brenien continued to speak as he approached them. "The Nightrose leaf," he identified, now addressing the dark fey directly. "Something coveted by the Undercity and its denizens most highly." A wry grin crossed his face. "I have a proposition for you fine knife-ears, if I may borrow but a moment of your time." The shadar-kai shared a silent glance. The one at their head nodded. "Continue." "Your business is quite prolific, but, as successful as it is, I'm afraid you have but two choices now. Oversee it's dismantling, or allow it to fall under new management." Brenien's two bruisers stepped forward menacingly for effect. "The choice is yours, gentlemen." The leader of the assembled crowd fixed Brenien with an expressionless, steely gaze. "Are you threatening us, Lord Captain?" the tattooed elf inquired flatly. Brenien smirked. "If you so choose to put it that way." Another set of footfalls, these ones now like the rumble of distant thunder, rapidly closed in. "Tell me, Brenien Dalthrah," the dark elf asked, "Have you met the one we call Howl?" A truly massive dragonborn, scales black as night and slashed with crimson stripes, stormed from the darkness beyond. Its scarlet eyes flared angrily, and the bare-chested monstrosity quickly bore down on the two sentries, who instinctively backed away despite their training. Howl, as he was named, struck one before he could bring the blade forth from his sheath, his ridged knuckles sending the man sprawling to the ground. The soldier adjacent to Brenien tried to step forward, but Howl seized his shoulders, lifting him a hand's span off the street. He headbutted the man once, twice, and a third for effect, tossing his unconscious body aside before whirling on Brenien, who now cowered in the dragonborn's presence. "You should know better, Lord Captain," the shadar-kai leader continued at length, "than to come to our doorstep making idle threats after Howl has been on expired Djinnbeer for three days. Leave now, with the knowledge that returning here shall result in your demise." "May the Phorjects damn you!" Brenien shouted, backing away, both infuriated and frightened. Howl snarled, his claws flexing as he stepped forward. "They already have." The Lord Captain Brenien Dalthrah, once arrogant and sure, turned and fled back the way he came, his cloak streaming behind him. A familiar orc voice answered from right underneath._ "Ye called?" _the thief merrily announced himself._ "Not my idea of divine help, but sure. What in the hundred hells are you doing in a sewer?" "Well, they're easy to navigate! Besides, 'em Imperial bastards would never follow us all the way 'ere" _As we hear the guards approaching again, we have two choices. @@feelthepony I mean like, most D&D worlds are psuedo medieval flooded fantasy kitchen sinks, historical accuracy isn't really there most of the time but most of us still like the kitchen sink and other time period anyways cuz its fun and neat
For some reason, I expected something more glamorous, like a high society meeting (by the way, have you done a feast/ball/masquerade ambience yet?) but this was still bloody gorgeous and I loved it
A hand claps you on the shoulder rousing you from your drowsy state. "Oye rookie, keep you eyes peeled eh?" He warns "Never know what nasties might be waiting to get you round the corner". You shake off whatever fatigue you had left and follow behind your Sargent closely, sheild and spear gripped tightly in your hands. "Is it just us out here?" You ponder out loud "surely the captian didnt think to just leave us two on watch to guard the whole town did he"? The Sargent let's out a low grunt before speaking back to you "not likely but if he did I'll be sure to give him an earful come morning". You blow some air out you nose and stifle a chuckle at this. You swere you almost see the faintest ghost of a smile come over your sergeant's face. You both press on into the night, ever cautious of what the darkness of shadows may keep in their clutches.
It would be pretty difficult, but a hunted type of ambiance would be dope. Like loud, heavy, echoing footsteps through tight corridors of some big baddy who is stalking the party.
That squealing cat in the audio is so realistic that I didn't realize it was part of the ambience. So I spent the last hour looking out the window, worried for the neighbor's cat trapped on the terrace or something like that.
More like night in the city. Damn though there's a lot of sneaky people in this city. WOuldn't be caught in a dark alley here without a rapier. As activity picks up in the evening when the citizenship is off work, before dropping to dead silence later in the night as everyone sleeps, I would suggest an actual "evening" in the city to have a sort of bustling twilight activity.

I know it says medieval, but both the picture and the sounds put me in mind of something more Victorian.
A lot of fantasy gets medieval cities wrong and makes it Victorian, same with carriages too.
