- Singer Lee Greenwood talked to NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard about his iconic song “God Bless The USA” being used at Donald Trump’s rallies throughout his presidency and during his reelection campaign. Greenwood tells the story of how he and Trump met and describes the responsibility of introducing the former president on the first night of the Republican National Convention after a gunman attempted to assassinate him.

I don't think we will see Lee Greenwood at the Democratic Convention!
He's a major Trump supporter so no. The last president to use that song was Reagan who's also Republican.
Democratic Party will use some anti American band perform like Rage Against the Machine or Green Day’s. They can give like a 20 minute speech how much they hate it here.
Lee wrote and produced that song himself so he owns all rights. Only other president that used it was Reagan 40 years ago.

Universal holds the copyright to the song so Lee Greenwood really has no say into who can or cant use it.
All contracts are different, they are cuthroat now, but back then the artists espescially big ones like Lee, really held the power if a record wanted to sign them after they'd already made it. And ofcourse live performances are a completely different ball game.
