    Check out my newest videos on federal 50 grain 22 Magnum test part 1 & part 2. It’s a great load for big coyotes.

    22 Hornet is a fantastic cartridge that just needs a relaunch with a faster twist rate to stabilize some of the somewhat heavier/longer bullets available today.

      @jw-sigp2258  Рік тому +4

      Totally agreed. My Ruger 77/22 Hornet will stabilize a 50 grain ballistic tip well so far. Does well with Barnes TSX 45 grain too. Other bullets I use are 40 grain V Max/Ballistic tips, and 45 grain HP/BEE bullet. I did a test with TSX, and BEE bullet so far on the channel. The TSX is pretty long and so is 50 grain ballistic tip. But I’d like to see some new Hornet rifles with 1:12 twist rather than 1:14 twist which is what I have.

      My channel is small and I doubt I have the influence to relaunch the hornet but I will help give it as much spotlight and support as I can. As always thanks for watching.

      @@jw-sigp2258 I agree. With a faster twist rate some of the longer really nice boat tail bullets can be used to provide a little better trajectory. I would go as far as a 1/10 or 1/8 as the slower speed available generally requires even more twist than the faster cals. I think bullets of 52-62gr would be a fantastic Hornet bullets for game where a less explosive impact is warranted

      @WayStedYou Рік тому

      I don't think you would need 1:8 since it wont be able to actually push the heavier bullets faster and a 1:12 would allow the light and mid weight ones to stabilize well@@frankbrowning328

    Younger shooter here, well I'm 33 but I picked up a mint '95 Ruger 77/22 Hornet last year. I got the dies for it and do reload that was my plan before I even found one, got lucky and picked it up and a gun show actually. This rifle is my go to, it's my second favorite rifle to my model 70 257 Roberts my grandfather gave me. But anyway this Hornet is awesome I settled on speer 40gr bullet behind about 12.5 grs of lil gun and cci 500's it'll do 5 shots at right about 3/4" if I do my part plenty accurate for me. Lots of people talked about Ruger Hornets and being poor in the accuracy department but I beg to differ. I tell anybody that will listen about the 22 Hornet, 9/10 people have never even heard of it but WOW what a round!

      Glad to hear there’s other people out there appreciating 22 Hornet. It’s such an awesome under utilized round. As far as why people say Ruger 77/22 Hornet are inaccurate I have no clue why they say it. I much like yourself am getting amazing accuracy with my Ruger Hornet rifle. Thank you for watching this video, and check out my ballistic tests results videos with hornet if you get a chance. PS. Keep enjoying that .257 Roberts it’s such a good deer round.

      I got my hornet when rimfire ammo was getting hard to find. Using Trail boss powder you can get 22lr velocities or 22mag velocities .

    Love the case size of the 22hornet and K-hornet, always gets me thinking because it's such an efficient and effective charge size for a lot of uses. I've been brainstorming for some time about a hypothetical straight-wall, rimless .257cal based on that kind of case capacity (or a bit less and hopped up to 50kpsi) and .298 base diameter. 1.6"oal would fit in handguns and I can't stop thinking of uses for it. No reason hogs and smaller deer species would be beyond it.
    22hornet was the original inspiration but it's essentially a 257 "carbine" in form. If I ever meet someone from AAC I'll lobby for it lol.

      Interesting idea. Coming up with new cartridge ideas is a pretty fun process. You seem like you understand quite a bit about reloading and making ammo. I started learning to reload from my father in the late 1990s. Thank you so much for watching. I hope your idea becomes something someday.

    Have you tried the sierra 50 gr blitz. Best accuracy in my contender barrel. Not for fast twist barrels can decentagrate in mid air. Works great in 12" twist.

      Haven’t tried blitz. I’ve tried 50 grain ballistic tips in hornet though. Thanks for watching.

    Very cool video. Yes the yunger gen people lost on older guns . If not in video game or in ar15 platform or sniper long rang gun they dont know about it. Hunter call wild has a 22hornet in that game know think may help bring the name around.
    Another one is the 222 rem it was before 223. Guy work loves for coyote. And older guy use work with 66 he said made a awesome light recoil rifle for kids and females for coyote up to deer right loads.
    22 jet was cool if looked it up .

      @jw-sigp2258  Рік тому +2

      22 Jet would be so great in contender barrels. Id like Jet with 52 grain jhp. I think Speer still makes beautiful 52 grain. Or 50 grain ballistic tip/V Max rock in Jet too.

      @@jw-sigp2258 I hope they do as well. Unfortunately I'm not a re-loader so I am stuck with factory ammo. I would love if more of it became available.

      @texmexshoots S&B, PPU, Remington, Hornaday some of the only options for hornet factory. Well HSM might still make hornet ammo. I’m doing videos in the spring about powder coated gas check bullets in full power hornet loads. I cast, powder coat, and gas check the bullets myself.

      The Hornet is definitely one of the greatest general purpose pest control and varmint rounds I’ve had the privilege to own. Where I live long shots for me are 250 yards so I don’t really need much more up to big coyote sized game. Thank you for watching this video.

      In 22 Hornet? I’ve used unique in it for cast bullet loads(45 grain bullet at 2050 fps) kinda like a 22 mag +p. Anchors small critters nice on the cheap. Been messing with powder coated cast bullets in hornet lately. Thanks for watching.

      Maybe if someone doesn’t handload. Also for factory ammo price depends on brand of factory ammo and what country you live in. Even in the US price can vary a bit state to state. The Remington is some of the most expensive factory hornet ammo I’ve seen. I can shoot powder coated gas checked cast bullets I make myself in hornet to full power for really cheap(way cheaper than 22 mag). The more skilled and resourceful you are the more money you can save. It’s a phenomenal caliber for handloading. Superbly accurate and powder frugal for the reloader who wants to stretch a can of powder.
