Not every watch that I buy ends up being a long term keeper. Or even a short term keeper. This compressor Seiko 5 ended up going back in its box pretty swiftly. Just a bit too drab. And the 4R36 is one of the worst I've come across. Maybe it's time to buy another SNZH57 after all? Cheers, Jody
Great video, just ordered an skx007, my first seiko cant wait!
I have a few dive watches, all the old faves, mako, ny40 etc etc. Not sure why i thought Seikos were a touch naff and steered well clear. I just had my second one delivered today (baby turtle, first being the Save The Ocean Turtle). And i love them both. Apart from some alignment issues they wear amazing.
FalconPunch1978 - Congrats man! I did a review of mine here ua-cam.com/video/YU9sB4ue2p0/v-deo.html
Your gonna LOVE your SKX! Great choice.
FalconPunch1978 great choice, man. I love mine 👌🏼😃👍🏼
I own the blue one (SRPB25) and mine is about -6 s/day. I really love the way the light reflects, creating a curved sunburst effect on the dial
Consensus regarding the shallowness of the dial and duration of the lume. However, I bought the orange-handed SRPB31 for $130 in Jan. '19. I threw a Barton Elite silicone strap on it, and I was amazed by the number of compliments that I've received. It's not bland or drab for the price that I paid, and it's actually more unique than most Seiko 5 wanna-be divers. However, at $269 there are better options out there.
I like the idea of an internal bezel. I recently bought the "55 fathoms" that you referred to (watched that video half a dozen times:) which i love.
I feel more concious with the rotating bezels as they are bulkier. Perhaps an internal bezel is an answer.
The thing with watches is that there is always an aspect of another watch that appeals.
Ya got a timegrapher Jody. Regulate it my friend. I’ve thought of buying that one but for no lume pip. No diver’s extension because it’s not a diver. It’s a dive style sports watch. It’s Seiko’s homage of the Longines. And when Jomashop has it in stock, I believe they’re about $150.
Now that you mention this long list of affordable Seiko's you've reviewed, it made me realize that you've never looked at the Seiko SUP880. Definitely not your usual style or specs, but I absolutely am in love with mine, it just looks like a stunner in real life. Just letting you know in case you haven't stumbled upon it yet
cartier rip off, but I support your suggestion. It looks like a nice watch I'd buy for my wife, maybe.
@@andrei-cosmin.popa85 Oh no doubt, definitely a tank homage. And it might be a little big for a woman's watch to be honest, the SUP250 and SUP896 may be a better size in my opinion.
@@curtisxxu thank you for the suggestions
I have the SUP880. It is a great watch. Very stylish. I just wish it was a bit smaller.
My buddy bought the SRPB27 variant a few months ago. It is a bit more subdued with the gray/black outer bezel, and no anthracite coating. It looks really nice on a great leather strap instead of the bracelet. I think my Dan Henry 1970 is a bit nicer, but for the ~US$90 less he paid, it was a solid value. I don't know if he's tracked the accuracy yet, but he's pretty pleased with the purchase.
I was so close to getting this of amazon not long ago. Kinda glad I never now.
Not a bad looking watch, but I agree with you on the anthracite bits. I’m not fond of the way the crowns look a bit crowded.
Pressed clasp, hollow end links, and no lume on bezel? I think most buyers would pay extra for those things.
Great review.
I own the orange-handed SRPB31. I agree with all your points. My model came with a 'vulcanized' rubber strap that felt like a zip tie around my wrist. Profit margins may be thinner than we know and Seiko is focused on global markets, but I'd like to see a Seiko Series 6 Sports line; same watches, same designs, but slightly improved fit and finish.
Love the review as usual Jody! Would love a review of the SRPC68 or another in the "Bottle Cap" line if you're looking for another Seiko to review - it's quite an odd little watch and I've been loving mine!
I still regret not buying this watch when it was in stock
I'll take it off your hands. Love ya and your review show!
I would love to know how much better it performs after regulation. You could do a video on it maybe?
Love the inner rotating bezels but it doesn't make everything. So I understand you point about this one.
I have a 42mm, 22mm strap, Seiko 5 Sports that has a inner rotating compass dial AND a one way 60 click rotating minute bezel. It doesn't have display back but is 200M resist and has a day date display. I've had it a couple of years and got it under $200 and I think it looks better than the SRPB29 ... check it out its a SE-SKZ211J1 ... I can't remember if you've already reviewed it but it's pretty solid watch!
Great videos, the only man in the world I know his wrist size by heart lol
The look of it this one didn’t do it for me so I never finish the video. But, I surely appreciate your content, enthusiasm and honesty. I check out every new vid.
Despite your review, I still want one! Though I'd get the orange and black SRPB31 with the rubber strap, and hopefully better accuracy.
It's rare now, eBay or patience, but I wouldn't spend more than 180 USD. Jordy's review is accurate regarding certain aspects of the watch, however, mine is accurate to +20 seconds a day, so it seems it's a lottery concerning accuracy. The vulcanized rubber strap is very stiff and built for an 8.5" inch wrist; you'll likely quickly replace it. I don't agree that it's bland, or 'meh', it's just different from the typical pseudo-diver. It's all subjective and I've received many compliments about this watch. Jordy's just not feeling it with his color combo, and the fact that he's reviewed a gazillion watches.
@@g_skul4970 Thanks for the feedback! I'll set an eBay alert, and pick up an orange and black NATO when I finally get one.
Review the Seiko 50 SRPC61K1 aka The Bottle Cap
LOVE the Bottle Cap! An underrated little design classic imo.
Second that. I have 2. Love them
Another interesting compressor is the Dan Henry 1970, it runs about $270, and comes in 40 or 44mm, and in grey or orange markings.
Have to agree, a bit humdrum. Love the SNZH, will be modding mine to look a bit like the original fifty fathoms. The dial anyway. Cheers for another honest review Jody
The ironic is that the new Seiko Monster for up to 400 usd, has the same crappy clasp...and movement. Why,why Seiko???
I also have the 4R36A calibre movement in a Seiko watch that I recently purchased, this calibre also features in quite a few of the Seiko Prospex range as well. Soon after purchasing I did check the timing of this watch and I was surprisingly disappointed as it was initially losing over 30 seconds per day (24 hours). I was quite frustrated and quite disappointed, and I didn't wear it for a while. Then I thought I better get it out again recheck the time as I was concerned it needed to go back to where I purchased it from, however it is now running within about 6 seconds accuracy a day. I don't know why it seemed to be performing so poorly soon after purchase, but it's running extremely well now. I will keep an eye on it over time. Hopefully it will continue to be running with the now relatively high accuracy, esp for an entry level automatic watch.
When I first discovered this watch in the Fall of 2019, it was the Pepsi version that I was most attracted to. However, by then, the watches were pretty much gone and when findable were up around 275 USD. That I wasn't going to do. On spec, the caliber and the features made it look fantastic and I liked the look of the Pepsi quite a bit.
I think this review, which I only stumbled over recently, may help to salve my wounds, or assuage my disappointment: those grapes really *are* sour. :)
Tons of microbrands do similar watches, if you are still interested years later
I found myself buying this watch but the srpb32k1 model 4 months back. Thought that I would thoroughly enjoy it being that it looked cool and contained the NH36 movement. Somehow I still kept going back to my SKX. It is a good watch though had no problems with my model on time keeping but it doesn't command the same love like the skx or even the snk or snzg series. Looking back, maybe I should've bought those instead. Nonetheless, Good review!
I guess it can be regulated, maybe it just sat much in a warehouse and need some proper lubrication, who knows, but I am in love with the design!
I assume that this one was quickly forgotten due to it's shared unboxing with that lovely Oris with the bronze case.
Another excellent review. One thing that makes your reviews stand out is the attention to small details, like actually taking a pin out of the bracelet to completely show the case back. Others just kind of wave the thing around and we have to keep hitting pause in order to see the darn watches.
You need to review a citizen nighthawk if you want a cool inner rotating bezel with 200m water resistance plus it’s a eco drive
Yes the price for cheap watches has increased. The Casio 1200 silver and Casio Duro also increased price
Hiya Yes indeed.I was looking for a Duro on Amazon only last week and best was130 odd quid! They used to be about £45! Wished I,d got one a year back! Cheers.
Jody you nailed it. I had a chance to get one last year and "meh" I'd the perfect description
You are looking well, Jody-I’ll pull the trigger on a Seiko 5 one day, don’t expect it will be this one tho, what with the chunky bezel. cheers from Atlanta, GA.
I think seiko should put an extra crown on their watches just so you can adjust the misaligned chapter ring. Don't you think?!
Haha. That's a good one
Btw, Jody, I know you favor quality-yet-inexpensive watches; do you think you could have a look at PULSAR by Seiko, as well as some offerings from Citizen?
I've owned a few of both brands (my favorite being their solars), and really liked the ones I owned.
I'd be interested in your take on them...
actually have sold mine, wasnt feelin’ it anymore 🧐 - Sold it for more than I bought it used - they are discontinued and sold out everywhere 😎
Prove it
I received my timegrapher this week. My new turtle is worse than your 4r. But my two samies with the same moment run from good to great. I found the crown down position on the grapher is the most accurate position on all three 4r3s.
A small correction, the 4R3x is included in plethora of Seiko 5 Sport watches. For example the baby monster line and many similar to it, also most if not all of them are 10bar WR.
On the other hand, I don't like this specific model, because the rotating bezel overpowers the dial. The color combo is not that bad, also I think the bracelet is made of fake solid links. Seiko at their finest being cheap :)
Struggling to think of a reason I would buy this...at all. Bit of a nothing watch, specially at the price.
I'm with you Jordy. I was looking at those, but something just told me not to buy. The 4R at $150 should be a certain buy. But ... I think it's the double crowns maybe. It's just personal preference.
Nice looking watch and love the colour matched day/date wheel. Accuracy is shocking though. My latest Invicta 7042 (Omega Seamaster 'inspired' in blue) is NH36A SII powered and +3 to -4 straight out of the box. Did wonder if Invicta regulate them... said to the Mrs that this would work as my 1 watch collection, which was unexpected especially at US$ 86.50 from Jomashop. Comfortable bracelet, not top heavy and 135g sized up for my 40 years wearing a watch everyday groove on my left arm (removed 2 links both sides of the bracelet) 🤣
It’s not a bad looking watch.
When I get a bad 7s26 or 4r36 I get them regulated when I decide the watch is a long time keeper. Almost all of them will run great if you are prepared to get them regulated if necessary.
Great review! No so great watch... I would go for the Dan Heny 1970 instead... but I'm not convinced with the Sapphire coating. In my experience it scratches very easy
Great video. I didn't know Seiko did an internal rotating bezel. Because more is better consider reviewing a Sorna GMT. They have not one but two internal rotating bezel! And another three on the outside! Yep 5 bezles. Great story about the company too.
I got mine for $175AUD.
After you initially reviewed this watch, I really took a shine to it although I purchased the blue dial version. I really like it! Would you like me to send you mine for review to see if you like it more?
Just picked myself up a snk793. Beautiful little watch. You should do a vid on it!
i think all of the „newer“ Seiko 5s feature the 4r35. The 7s36 has been discontinued as far as i know
The 7s26 is in so many Seiko 5's and SKX's (possibly still in production). I think any Seiko over $200 should have the 4r rather than the 7s. I would love a SKX with a hacking movement.
C. W. you could replace the movement in a skx. but there will be a new skx with a 4r soon, too bad it wont be a real dive watch apparently.
I like really this one, Jody. It is a pity that it is not more accurate. Of course, if bought through a Seiko dealer, you can have it adjusted free of charge ... saving yourself $200. Seiko 5s are very rare at my authorized Seiko dealer and he says that he simply can’t find any more.
I think the issue with keeping time would drive me nuts. It's a nice looking watch, wish it did not have that extra crown. I saw it on Jomashop for 149 or 179 I forgot. They were sold out. US dollars. If you are not happy with it, sell it if you wish.
You should have more than a million subscribes
I was just wondering what happened to that compressor watch by Seiko you unboxed a while ago.. aaaaand there you have it ;)
BTW. On the same day you published this SNKL23 was available on CreationWatches for original price. For like 6-8 hours ;) Miracles do happen. These compressors came back to stock although now i'm convinced that they are unappealing.
thanks for the honest opinion
Beautiful watch! Wonder if there are other color combinations.
there are SRPB 25, 27, 29, 32
SRPB25, SRPB27, SRPB29, and SRPB31. I own the ladder of these models. wornandwound.com/introducing-the-seiko-5-dual-crown-diver-collection-refs-srpb25-srpb27-srpb29-and-srpb31/
Not a bad looking watch tho would prefer it a little bigger and was gonna say at least it has a decent movement, but they even managed to make that a duffer ,, ,Bulova snorkel would be a much better buy for me and prob not that much more money ,
Hello from Boston! Great shirt and excellent review!
The watch is remarkably consistent. -30 seconds every day +/- one second or so. That's incredible, it just needs regulating.
Hi Jody! Thanks for this video. I think I’m lucky because I didn’t buy this watch yet although it was high on my list. Now it is going to be removed.
I just checked. None on Amazon and the one on eBay is $680 USD. If you still have it good time to sell at 2x value.
You are the BEST and I really mean it. You buy a Seiko SRPB29 and you forget it. 😃
Very sympathetic indeed. 😊
I like it. 👍👍👍
Hello!
Question for JOMW: Does your watch winder spit out those stats? And now my comment: My SKX013 from the grey market was running -33 seconds. After regulating it, it's running +6 seconds. And also, good video! I would love to see that watch in person!
is it possible that it goes unregulated from the factory, isn't it more sensible to become 'detuned' with time?
@@TheKenjoje Hmmm... I've wondered that myself. I hope a watchmaker is reading this thread.
@@c.w.9615 well, in your case, it's nothing strange because it's the 'grey' market :)
Shouldn't you return the watch if the movement is out of their stated tolerances new?
I can´t believe yo sold the SNZH57!!! You said it possibly was your favourite Seiko. I think its one of the best 5 sports Seiko out there. You're right, you'll probably buy it again in the future. Very Bad Jody, so disappointed about that sale :(
I know mate! I'm looking at selling this one, and buying another 57.... Maybe even the J model this time. Cheers!
I’ve ordered the SNK807K2 should get delivery on Tuesday. Then I just need to get a vintage style tan leather strap...
Hi Jody. I am an avid follower of your channel and enjoy watching your different perspectives on various watches. With your extensive experience and having handled a ton of watches, I'd like to ask you a general question about dive watch bezels. I have a Seiko SNZD65 that has a slight vertical play on its bezel. Meaning when you press on any side of the bezel, it slightly goes down. Other than that, the bezel works fine, Is it normal for some bezels to have a slight vertical play? Looking forward to your insight, Thanks
Jody ! Can you tell us where you purchased your timegrapher and how much it was please, thanks
I'd take this watch over an SKX any day.
First time I’ve ever laughed out loud at a watch video! Great job Jody!
The whole compressor thing just doesn't appeal to me- I like an external bezel coz it saves the crystal from knocks (& dual crowns just look a bit naff to me). Didn't like the spinnaker either. Good review as always tho! cheers 👍👍
Isn't the day just red because seiko likes to color the sunday red?
he was talking about the black day-date wheel
Because this model is rare it’s expensive in japan is around ¥40,000, lucky I bought one for ¥18000 blue and red dial Pepsi it look’s better then black and red in my opinion
Hey Jody, I have two suggestions for you to consider, regarding dual crown super compressors : Helson Hammerhead (Longines Legend diver rip off) and Landeron. How about it?
I'll be waiting for this one on eBay
Good Looking Seiko, regulate it and add to the rotation. Good review otherwise.
Specs of the Bliger subby knocks this Seiko for 6 for far less money and is very accurate...
Jody, woud you ever consider revisiting some of your 'Chinese specials' with the timegrapher......?
Btw enjoyed your smartwatch review but would be even better to see one of the top 3 like the Galaxy and the Ticwatch pro or Apple watch ,Galaxy being the one that most appeals to watch lovers with its rotating bezel and the great mods you can buy,
I like this watch! There’s just so many “better” options at this price point it’s hard to justify
You can get a nice Spinnaker for $200
I kind of like it.
Yep you said it... Meh. The sea urchin (I believe it’s referred to by some), the black and gold one you sold, is a far more attractive watch AND cheaper. I like the blue one, but I do not like the crown which does not screw down.
I was going to buy the 009 SKX but have just picked up an Orient Kamasu which was a warehouse deal on Amazon. Superb, you should review it sometime. Ha...as if you don’t have enough to review!
I'm tempted to get a Landeron compressor but I'm not sure about the brand
You should review some certina watches they are great Swiss automatics and a good price
LOVE THAT TEE SHIRT!!!!
I've had one in my cart for a year. Just not sure. But there is something about it.
I agree with your take on this watch. Where did they go wrong?? It feels like something Casio might make. Btw, Orient uses the internal rotating dial and makes a popular watch that Asians quite like. Edit: It's the Orient "Sea King" aka Orient SK I have been quite tempted by this colorful watch. Edit2: After a cursory review evidently they are knockoff "frakenwatches" being made from NOS parts as Orient has stopped making them in the 90's. At < $100 still tempted!! Save me Jody!
An interesting Seiko that might be worth reviewing is the Seiko "Save the Oceans" recent release.
Try the Orient Marshall. It's a 50m lookalike, a little less garish, and there's still a few on eBay.
@@mightbesherwood1313 ahh yes those can be had new. Thank you for your kind recommend, but I in fact want the garish!
Best watch reviewer on UA-cam!
I don't mean to change the topic but dude, check out the Casio MTD-1079D-1AVCF "Super Illuminator" diver. I just got mine in the mail today and LOVE it.
timex (indiglo) has a much better trick to light them up, but that's just my opinion :D
The 4R36 movement on my Turtle PADI doesn’t hack for some reason since new (I purchased it about 6 months ago) why is that, anybody? I noticed the movement designation on this one is 4R36A, does that ‘A’ mean anything? As my Turtle’s movement doesn’t have it.
Agreed. Nice watch review Jody thank you for your thoughts :)
whn you commented this the video was 47seconds old lol
@Duncan Pugh I had faith that it would be a good video ;)
Go Red Sox!
That' not just -30s, it's a consistent -30s, and the vertical timekeeping in the winder matches the horizontal timekeeping on the test gear. A +30s regulation should bring it into line. You don't test the accuracy of a watch by simply reading the unregulated time keeping, you look at consistency and make the necessary change. Calling a watch that is a consistent -30s every day a poor timekeeper is ridiculous. It has been poorly regulated, that's all. If you can regulate that well and get the same consistency after regulation then it is an amazing timekeeper.
Yeah that’s pretty lackluster. Not for me.
Ive got this mvmnt in srp605 and it does minus few sec only. 30sec i had over 2 weeks
I've done the same thing lol . I still have watches just laying around.
Great video. Are the NH36 movements actually made by Seiko? Or only designed by Seiko?
Made by Seiko/SII
Bulova lunar pilot
Can you do a Casio Edifice review please?!
You say that it wasn’t the worst watch you’ve reviewed. How about a video going over those watches that were “worst in class”?
Hi Jody, been a long time fan. This question is unrelated to this watch. Here is the question.....you have no watches and $350 and you can only buy one watch. What is it??
The watch reminds me of a can of Kiwi shoe black polish . Who can get excited by that?
I have owned several seiko watches,I am dissapointed with the quality control in recent years; and I think they are becoming overpriced. No more Seiko's for me, In the same price range.I think Citizen provides better quality and value.
Larry I agree. The Citizen quality is fantastic
If only their designs were a bit less bland and they didn't stop with mechanicals. I would have bought more of them.
I do agree that Citizen offers incredible craftsmanship for the money. Though, I would love to own a Grand Seiko. Citizen's styles appear to me to be more utilitarian or conservative, which is why you don't see more people wearing them. I do love my Ti Solar Chrono w/ Sapphire crystal, and it's part of my rotation. Very reliable time piece and incredible value for the 250 dollars spent on it.
Spot on mate
nice i like but accuracy not good that would but me off cheers
