My boyfriend of 6 years left me recently for his mental health. When he left, he told me that I’m his soulmate, he’d always love me, he wouldn’t like someone else for a long time, if ever, and that he would come back in 3 years when his situation changed. He was crying and it seemed so genuine. We both sobbed and talked for 8 hours while saying goodbye because neither of us wanted to go. The day after we went no contact, he went to a party and invited a girl and I saw pictures of him and her together. He confirmed he developed feelings for her at the party and didn’t expect to like someone this quickly. It took him one day. He kept saying things like “I did love you”, “you were my best friend”, “you were special.” Broke my heart honestly. He treated me with so much indifference during our last convo. Like he never loved me at all. And that killed me. It was a total 180 and felt like the person I loved so much died. I don’t get how you can go from seemingly loving someone so much to never wanting to speak to them again and treating them like they’re nobody the next day. I want to move on like he did. I’m trying, but no matter how much I try, I still love him. So I don’t get how he stopped loving me in a day, unless he never loved me to begin with. Before, he cared if we ended on bad terms and he wouldn’t leave until we were on good terms because he said I was his best friend and he didn’t want to end badly. We ended on the worst terms possible and he just doesn’t care and is pursuing this new girl instead. I don’t know how he could move on this quickly. I can’t. The lyrics “And I know if you were true there's no damn way that you could fall in love with somebody that quickly” really get to me. Because I don’t get how this girl he barely knows and only talked to a handful of times already means more to him than I did after 6 years of loving each other and being best friends. Really makes me feel like I’m nothing.
