2001 was actually an interesting time in history. Most people didn't have the internet in their home yet and smart phones were still about 5 years away. Some might call it, the end of the innocence.
Cell phones slowly trickled in our house starting in 2001, a regular internet line and desktop appeared mid 2000'ish. That assessment would be slightly incorrect, just not as pervasive as now obviously. Pagers were still very much around as a side note (watch Bruce Almighty).
In 1995, only hardcore nerds and families with money to burn had internet. By 1999, pretty much all households had a connection. It's crazy how quickly we adopted that technology.
Man I wish I was a teen in 2001 😪 it just seemed so much fun and better , no phones, no social media, no tiktoc 🤣 , people actually had conversations . I don’t care for today’s time
I was 14 in 2001. It was epic. And tragic. Crazy times. But you are right, the hours on the phone with your girlfriends or the laughing at a sleepover was amazing. Something smart phones can never touch.
id rather live through 2001 again than 2021 what a year it was for music video games movies tv shows fashion and other great artistry and culture in fact back then people were more chill and relaxed no one gave a shit back then
I remember all of these commercials even though i was 5 when they played. I have no idea how i remember them as they play. It's like a strange feeling that you've seen it before many times, but you didn't remember until you just now saw it again. 😭 My Dad used to watch Everybody Loves Raymond and the news every night and i guess that's how i remember all these...
People do make it seem that 9/11 changed everything in 2001. Pop Culture was still the same even in 2002. What I remember is Country Music became bigger post 9/11 because it was always seen as patriotic even before that tragic event. I think now and days people have had amnesia and think things weren’t the same throughout the rest of the 00’s but in some ways it was. It wasn’t until 2006 social media became a little well known with MySpace even with it starting a little bit earlier. I felt things changed more in the late 2000s after the ‘08 recession. It wasn’t until the 2010s that Social Media and Smart phones took over everyone’s lives. I think the only thing I was complaining about in the 2000s was Reality Tv and how dumb it was that people would put themselves on tv and act like trash.
you can't even make that "toto" joke today implying that asian eat dogs (they do) you'd be cancelled by the internet mob and never be able to work again. That's how SJW woke retards have ruined our society. There is no humor left in the world. It's time to fight back.
Hate to say it but something changed for the worst around this time and I think 9/11 had something to do with. I just looked at the commercials for MTV in 02' compared to 01' and it feels different. I vividly remember feeling it at the time...music slowly began to suck
at least Mtv cared some about music and there history here. i gave up on mtv after it became all reality shows teen mom jersey shore. not mention you find most music videos on youtube at this point
Does anyone remember those ads in which some smiling men with 70s clothes and afro hair held a golden, glittering spraycan, ainging "stardust, stardust"?
I was 12 years old in that year I use to fight a lot of dudes that tried me but I beat those guys up that’s for sure the ones that tried me because I am a Spanish Jew and I am Spanish like them but it did not matter the fact that I am Jewish they didn’t like that I had some friends and I was happy with that I still had good year that year.
Right? This was my first time seeing that commercial and several things caught my eye- the fashion, the disposable camera ad in and of itself- but *that* in particular and just how casual this was presented really strikes me.
A Young Guy Who Likes the Olden Days Are you aware we still don't. Gen X and the boomers is responsible for the current state of the world. The oldest millennials are in their 30's at entry lv and middle man positions.
@Billy Idol Rockstar - Dude your comment is so cringeworthy. These are not "your days" because this was when you were born 😂 you aren't able to remember anything from this time because you were nothing but an unconscious little baby. You are not even remotely old... I was in elementary school when you were born so I can remember what that time was like and it's different from what you 2000's babies are used to.
Billy Idol Rockstar how cringeworthy is this comment lol. You are so young it’s not even funny. I was born in the 80s and this is what I remember as a teen. You were a baby

That's how I remember it, too, Anne. 9/11 hadn't happened yet either. These were sweet times.
I was 10 years old in 2001 and the majority of my classmates had computers and internet at home.

Actually, I’m from Cape Town and most people had a dial up internet connection at home.
In 1995, only hardcore nerds and families with money to burn had internet. By 1999, pretty much all households had a connection. It's crazy how quickly we adopted that technology.
Thought i was 15 , and sitting in my parents living room again there for a second . Damn i'm 31 now 😭 time flies
Adam Miles I was thinking the same thing.
Shit I'm 23 I remember this like it was yesterday

Aww, that Aaliyah commercial hurt.... because I saw the date and realized she hadn't even died yet but was only a month away
That was horrible. I'll never forget it.
When I saw the date on the Aaliyah commercial I was like only a month before she died sad thing 😔

I don't care what Father Time says--the 90s were from 1991 to 2002!
I think even till 03
Spot on. 1991-2002
I hate to say it but to me it felt like 9-11 was what ended the 90s vibe.

No... Till 9/ 11... I was 16 when that happened... And that's really when the 2000's started, and where we are now. Things just felt off since then
Take me back 😭 lol 1998-2006 was the best for me
90-95 was better.
Back when MTV was dedicated to music
I miss the 2000s and the early 2010s!!! When the late 2010s came, that's when things got crazy!!!
