I love it when younger generations don't discriminate and want to pay respect to the legends regardless of music eras or styles.

Yes, this is Dame Shirley Bassey, the unreachable in every respect - just a class of its own. There will never be one like her again.
This documentation is just great and shows once again her incredible abilities.
Dame Shirley, we do love you - July 8th, 2020

Watching it at this very moment! I can't believe I am just learning about this AMAZING WOMAN! I don't know why it's taking me my whole life (51 years) to find or be given such a gift! I feel so many emotions listening to her sing. It's like her an old friend who stops in to say hi and somehow all those painful yet empty spaces in your heart, soul and life have been filled in with something oddly familiar but refreshing and incredibly comforting. WOW! This is GOD'S doing... guess he figured I really needed something very special to help me get through this pain! I am so grateful for this amazing woman and her soul healing voice!!! God bless

Not my vibe (at all), not my musical taste, not my personal style and definitely not gay..., however, this woman's immense beauty, her 'put it all on the line' performances, and extremely strong voice cannot be denied and I have and newfound respect for this woman as an artist. Her African-ess, cannot be denied and has, in large part, contributed to her great beauty, ultra charisma and super talent. But, truly, what a beauty...., good Lord!

Watch her documentary (from 2001), which the struggles that she suffered in her personal life. Then you will understand how colossal her emotional response was in this video
(especially after she listened to the mix of "After the Rain"). The phrase "This girl just can't take it anymore" sums up all of her heartache (that she has kept bottled up from being
haunted her entire life about her inability to give her children the one thing they needed more----time). You can see that she is on the brink of crying as she closes her eyes and
listens to "After the Rain". And just as she starts to cry she stands up and dances with the producer to switch the subject and focus on the performance of everyone involved.
Just watch a short excerpt of this video [ from time marker 33:50 to 35:00 ] in which she speaks about success and stardom and the toll it has taken on her relationships and children.
You can see that she is visibly upset as she speaks about it. But when the narrative changes to allow Leslie Bricusse to chime in on Dame Shirley's inner drive to deal with it and move
on (without sacrificing her talent). Shirley Bassey is just an incredible woman. For her to start out with so little, and to achieve what she has is simply "awe-inspiring"...only in the stars!!

Why bother telling us you don't like her? Egotistical...

    • @FallacyAsPraxis
      @FallacyAsPraxis 3 роки тому +1

I hate that people stereotype her music as over-dramatic 'belting', and that they associate her so much with gay culture. Back in her time, as now, she's just Shirley---a woman who is incredibly talented and can sing anything while looking like a million dollars. I identify with her because she's the powerful light-skinned black person who proved herself to the world---despite her poor background. But that soul is not the part of her that most people see.
Black women in particular have had a hard time of it...in every industry where they've tried to be successful. And even when they cross all the T's and dot all the I's they still catch flack. In this respect Dame Shirley reminds me of my mother. People do judge you based on where you come from and the way you look. And we have to use every God-given opportunity to prove to them just how wrong they are.

I see a lot of similarities between Garland and Basey: same awsome vocal power and consummate cabaret delivery. Its just a shame that Garland's demons, just like Whitney Houston's, consumed her before she could witness a tribute to her talent as Bassey did with this album.

Why do they keep trawling her background as the 'girl' from a poor background...etc? Jeez, BBC. Most singers who became successful came from poor or working class backgrounds...including the Caucasian ones. They treated This woman badly when she first came to the USA because they didn't know that she is black. I would have hoped that they treated her better at home. They didn't. Despite her talent she had to work her way up.
I feel for Dame Shirtley. Like me, she has very fair skin..but despite that we are still black. Its frustrating to see that so many decades have have passed and nothing much has changed. People still judge us by the shade of our skin. Even black people are guilty of it. Good for her that she is a star and has millions of dollars. For the rest of us, the struggle is still real.
