    Super interesting! Thanks for going through the schematic, was awesome to see exactly why the pedal sounds the way it does

    Beautiful video... I came across this aira dist pedal because I too thought it was a clone of the boss ds1 and instead you amazed me and above all you saved me money because I'm looking for a DS 1 clone.
    Congratulations Arito you are a genius and the mod of dod 250 you have made to the pedal are very beautiful.
    Your clone of the RAT is wonderful.
    Finally, can you help me if there are good clones of the DS1... until now I have not found anything on the market for stock pedals from old and / or semi-unknown companies... thak you

      Thanks for watching! Thank you so much for the kind compliments, I appreciate it!
      To be honest, I don't know much about DS1 clones, maybe Behringer makes one? Since they have copied a lot of old Boss pedals. But, if you're looking for a "good clone," I think the best would be to just buy a used DS1, since they're pretty affordable.

    Hi Arito. Check out Duncan Tone Stack Calculator. It has an emulation of a muff tone control and you can change the values. The stock Muff tone stack has a pretty big mid scoop around 1khz. That's why it sounds thin compared to the Dod250. (Especially with single coils and a fender). Modding the Aria tone stack would be really cool I think. With a 3-way switch, you could have scooped - flat - mid boost. I did this with my PB/5 Pedestrian Button Big Muff build. I used a rotary switch, but you'd have to try and squeeze in a slide switch I'd think. Thanks for the video!

      Hi Rob, thanks so much for the info! I have the Tone Stack Calculator in my computer, but didn't realize it could do Muff type tone stacks! 😅 I only used it several times while working on amp mods, but didn't venture beyond the Fender/Marshall/Vox tabs... Modding the Aria tone stack for different mids response sounds like a great idea! I'm not a huge fan of the Muff mid scoop, but not having a tone knob in the "DOD250 mode" feels quite limiting, so changing the tone stack might be the only solution! But, as you mention, how to implement the switch could be somewhat of a pain... Thanks for sharing your advice!

    I recently was gifted this Aria Adt 1 ..but don’t know how to access the battery compartment..any suggestions?

      Thanks for watching! The part where it says "DISTORTION" in purple, that little plastic piece SLIDES to the right. There's a little click-notch holding it in place so you just need to force slide it, but be careful not to break the plastic.

    I wonder what it'd be like if you added a tone bypass like the one some big muffs have

    • @arito
      @arito  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! The switch I added to the Aria is pretty much the same as the tone bypass on big muffs (although on mine I also bypass the op amp after the tone circuit to mimic the DOD 250). I talk about the switch around the 6:30 mark in the video.

    Interesting.. Right, AntiLog makes perfect sense for control law , and not QUITE the same as changing the 1meg feedback res - 'cause as the gain increases so does the rollof freq (to about 750Hz at max) - that could account for the midrange push you like - as a bass player I deal with that a bit, HOW much Low end to let through, to shelf instead of roll off :)
    You may have noticed some BOSS pedals do this - two RC's to ground one sets high HF gain, the other's a shelf for a lower Low-Mid gain, before a rolloff to unity - SO many possibilities with THOSE time constatnts as well as post dist 'voicing'
    I mess with these a lot, can never really totally make up my mind (some sounds are good on SOME songs etc...)- If I do, I'll get some video out :)

      Thanks Pete! Yes, I also noticed that having the gain pot there would change the low end response, where at max gain (0 ohm) the roll off would be the same a TS, just as you calculated. I guess it makes sense in a way, that as you increase the gain the bass gets rolled off so the tone doesn't get too muddy.
      Like you say, there are soo many options with how to voice these circuits, and each one has its character/voicing. I guess that's what makes it so fun!
      Looking forward to your video! ;)

    Interesting that they cloned that circuit, but it still sounds as ... not very good as I remember. I supposed another mod would be to add a switch for germanium/silicon diodes, or maybe even some red leds to get different sounds out of it.

      Thanks for watching! It would be interesting to do a future shootout against a DOD 250! Yes, adding a switch for the clipping diodes would be fun, also changing the tone circuit might be nice.

    I have the Aria DT-5 Distortion (it's from the line that came after this one, I believe) and I once tested it against a DS-1, and indeed, they are not that similar, so maybe the DT-5 has the same Dist+/250 based circuit as the ADT-1?
    Great video btw

    • @arito
      @arito  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching! And thank you for sharing your experience! That would make sense that they kept the circuit design for the DT-5 and just changed the enclosure.
