I'm 42 and thiS came out late ninetys. It's real impressive how this generation of music has lasted. I'm not surprised. This was a huge influence being in bands since high school. This was the shit beyond all that rappy metal. Which I loved too. Limp, korn, snot, sevendust, cold, tool, staind, dry kill logic, system, mudvayane, early slipknot, . You younger peeps, it's cool y'all dig all this. This killed the grunge movement which was in high school. Which was great. But this generation was pissed and having great radio play. It was a great time.

I'm proud to say that this is what rock music was when I was growing up. I feel sorry for the kids nowadays. Luckily they don't even realize their loss.
There's so many incredible rock/metal bands that have popped up recently. And I'm 24 and quite nostalgic myself, it just irks me when people say stuff like this. Sure mainstream music nowadays sucks, but then again it always has. If you let the radio and record companies dictate your playlist, you're gonna have a bad time. To name a few of those relatively new bands, Glass Cloud, Bring Me The Horizon, Unleash The Archers, Avenged Sevenfold, Nekrogoblicon, Upon A Burning Body, Gloryhammer, Devildriver, "Ready, Set, Fall!", Seventh Wonder, Volbeat, etc.
There's lots of great music out there. You just have to look for it.
Valtiel1605 I have heard of a good chunk of those bands and I don't like them. And you can't say that I am biased because I loved Coal Chamber a lot but dislike DevilDriver. Bring me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Ready Set fail are part of the crap that exist today in my opinion. Volbeat is okay but I still don't really care too much for them. I'll have to check the other bands out that you mentioned.

The thing I really like about Staind is that you can hear Aaron's progress through depression. He struggled for a long time, and you can hear it in his voice. I think music helped him way more than drugs ever could.
That was something I really appreciated about Aaron Lewis. Listening to his progression through seriously dark times to getting better. The worst part of it, people hated him for it because they wanted to wallow in their own self pity.

Music channels his inner feelings out and resonates a pathway for him to remain off of negative influences. Very solid, reflective comment dude. I am 59, this song brings it. So many of Staind songs hit hard. Mudshovel is one of my favorites. The opening riffs hooked me on this song, the lyrics hit home. They're awesome live in concert, I've seen them a few times, want to see more of them.

Just went to their concert here in Raleigh, NC yesterday 8/10/21 and them playing live is even better than recording in the studio 🤟🏻. It was so great. Korn was also there after them
I was there too, Staind were good but Korn came out and took things to a whole new level! Staind are a good band, but that was a KoRn concert with a little bit of Staind sprinkled on top let's be honest, people lost their minds when Korn hit the stage it was awesome!
Going to see them this coming Tuesday. Cannot wait! Saw Korn two years ago and they were awesome. Looking forward to seeing Staind for the first time. This is one of my favorite tunes from them.
What makes bands like Staind, Godsmack, Limp Biskit, Linkin Park etc... so exceptional is that they combine powerful vocals & guitar riffs with arrow to the heart lyrics but instead of crooning about how they found the love of their lives or how glowing it is to be in love, they're belting out the tormentuous reality of love torn asunder - trust betrayed - feelings of helpless anguish that IS the reality of a relationship gone bad. I saw Staind at Fitchburg MA airport in the rain while hanging off a radio tower to get a better view, wrapped in my man's arms. He left me a a doctor's appt 8 years later (after 17 yrs together} & never came back. I can FULLY relate to the emotional turmoil & I LOVE being able to turn up the decibels on songs like this & slam out my feelings, instead of crying my heart out, that's for damn sure!!!

I love staind came across them in my late teens and still listen them loads even now in my 30's. Sorry that you went through heart break. I always find music can help you through rough times and lift you up and staind is one of those bands you can really connect to. Glad this song helps, stay strong

I may not be a fan of this band but damn, this song is fucking great. That bass, man. You can’t not love it. Same thing with the use of effects on the guitar. I mean, this is one of the many songs I’d listen to on a long road trip, especially at night.
Harmonics on the 5th, 4th, and 3rd fret is the main riff. No effects; merely use of harmonics in a very cool fashion.

I don't regret being older because I lived in an awesome era. I'm glad I got to know a world before the internet, seeing the birth of mainstream internet, yeah they had it back in the 80s but it was only geeks doing complicated stuff back in the 80s ,
so the mainstream didn't have the internet, for me it was in 95, Prodigy dial up internet, that was before 56k, very slow just did chat in very generic groups. Than aol started becoming a thing and than 56k dial up was a big deal. LOL. One thing I do miss from back then was how personalized you could make your internet experience. I'm stoned so I'm rambling but yeah great music great times.

middle school and i honestly got sick of them cause "It's Been Awhile" was so overplayed. Turns out you've just gotta be a little older to really get what they're about beyond just like...being sad. I've recently rediscovered this and Break the Cycle and yeah Staind was actually pretty good...
You would have been in miiddle school. I was in the 8th grade when this came out, which means you would have been in the 6th. I am 41 now, was 14 when this came out in 96.

I miss the nu metal scene
It also was more epic. I'd take nu metal any day over some of the electro/indie garbage we have today. Even softer/indie rock was much better during those days then it is now. I never understood why nu-metal gets shit on as the worst era of music considering that the music scene we have today pales in comparison.
Evan dude I agree so much! Music in general was so much better during the 90s and early 2000s. Everything is so bland and pussified today. 21 pilots, imagine dragons, bastille, etc all that shit is so bland and garbage. Mainstream music had so much more raw edge and passion back in these days. I really wish this era would return, it’s just sad how lame everything has gotten since then. At least nu metal had edge and attitude, can’t sfand most of the pussy shit today.
It's still going somewhat. Alot of bands from that era are still going.

Saw you guys Live years ago at Rupp Arena in Lexington KY. there was a drunk and belligerent couple in front of us spilling beer on people etc. they were screaming MUDSHOVEL the whole night and when you finally played it, they got taken out of the arena for throwing an empty whiskey bottle. Karma was strong, so was the night. Thanks for a great memory!
Grew up with Staind playing on the radio all the time but it was only mudshovel, its been a while, and outside that really got played. This song barely scratches the surface for the mountain of musically impressive and mentally relatable tracks they have.
