The thing I really like about Staind is that you can hear Aaron's progress through depression. He struggled for a long time, and you can hear it in his voice. I think music helped him way more than drugs ever could.
That was something I really appreciated about Aaron Lewis. Listening to his progression through seriously dark times to getting better. The worst part of it, people hated him for it because they wanted to wallow in their own self pity.
@theonlyculprit You hit it right on the head man. Aaron Lewis really struggled tremendously with depression and needed more than a family/friend outlet to reach out to. Music channels his inner feelings out and resonates a pathway for him to remain off of negative influences. Very solid, reflective comment dude. I am 59, this song brings it. So many of Staind songs hit hard. Mudshovel is one of my favorites. The opening riffs hooked me on this song, the lyrics hit home. They're awesome live in concert, I've seen them a few times, want to see more of them.
I'm proud to say that this is what rock music was when I was growing up. I feel sorry for the kids nowadays. Luckily they don't even realize their loss.
There's so many incredible rock/metal bands that have popped up recently. And I'm 24 and quite nostalgic myself, it just irks me when people say stuff like this. Sure mainstream music nowadays sucks, but then again it always has. If you let the radio and record companies dictate your playlist, you're gonna have a bad time. To name a few of those relatively new bands, Glass Cloud, Bring Me The Horizon, Unleash The Archers, Avenged Sevenfold, Nekrogoblicon, Upon A Burning Body, Gloryhammer, Devildriver, "Ready, Set, Fall!", Seventh Wonder, Volbeat, etc. There's lots of great music out there. You just have to look for it.
Valtiel1605 I have heard of a good chunk of those bands and I don't like them. And you can't say that I am biased because I loved Coal Chamber a lot but dislike DevilDriver. Bring me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Ready Set fail are part of the crap that exist today in my opinion. Volbeat is okay but I still don't really care too much for them. I'll have to check the other bands out that you mentioned.
I've gone through a fair share of betrayal in my life. This song perfectly encapsulates the rage inside my heart. It has helped me to vent it and start the healing process. Everyday is a battle. But I'm not sinking. Not for them. Stay hard, live long, and rock on.
My daughter kicked like hell when this song played and her late father's band practices... Gotta love the power of this song / the music!! I LOVE this song & forever will!! :) *she definitely as a young adult now, still has appreciation & likes...

I'm 42 and this song will forever be one of the first and most liked songs by them. Back in the day this song helped me get through a whole bunch of shit.
What makes bands like Staind, Godsmack, Limp Biskit, Linkin Park etc... so exceptional is that they combine powerful vocals & guitar riffs with arrow to the heart lyrics but instead of crooning about how they found the love of their lives or how glowing it is to be in love, they're belting out the tormentuous reality of love torn asunder - trust betrayed - feelings of helpless anguish that IS the reality of a relationship gone bad. I saw Staind at Fitchburg MA airport in the rain while hanging off a radio tower to get a better view, wrapped in my man's arms. He left me a a doctor's appt 8 years later (after 17 yrs together} & never came back. I can FULLY relate to the emotional turmoil & I LOVE being able to turn up the decibels on songs like this & slam out my feelings, instead of crying my heart out, that's for damn sure!!!
Grew up with Staind playing on the radio all the time but it was only mudshovel, its been a while, and outside that really got played. This song barely scratches the surface for the mountain of musically impressive and mentally relatable tracks they have.
Some hot dude in some class I was in back in early 2000s told me to listen to this band, so this was the first song I heard...from Limewire lol. Such an awesome band.
Dee Liteful Indeed there was and you might be right on the name but my memory isn't all that great either lol. Kazaa was my first and then It was the computer STD ridden Limewire but zero fucks were given just give me muh music!
DAMN! Fifteen years already to this day since that album was released. Time sure flies when you're not having fun. One of my favorite Staind song ever tho'....
I think I've developed PTSD after being an ER nurse during this pandemic. I see the faces of the patients we lost when I close my eyes. This song helps.
Also, I'm so sorry you are struggling with PTSD. I have PTSD over my own situation and this virus... I couldn't imagine what you guys see & go through..if my nightmares about this is bad, I can't imagine being on the front lines. My little sister is a nurse in New Orleans and works in the ICU. SO THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR DOING GODS WORK! *bow* I salute YOU!
I hope you have gotten support and therapy since-dark experiences are never easy and there is nothing to feel bad about-working in care can be to much for the caring heart-stay strong 🙏🏻
Reminds me of a highschool love who just passed away last year from breast cancer. She was my first and we jammed to this band from day one. RIP Ash. I will never forget the memories you gave me.
this song forever on will bring me to tears last year i brought my mother to a staind korn concert and that would be the last one we'd see together before her passing now this song stil hurts
I may not be a fan of this band but damn, this song is fucking great. That bass, man. You can’t not love it. Same thing with the use of effects on the guitar. I mean, this is one of the many songs I’d listen to on a long road trip, especially at night.
middle school and i honestly got sick of them cause "It's Been Awhile" was so overplayed. Turns out you've just gotta be a little older to really get what they're about beyond just like...being sad. I've recently rediscovered this and Break the Cycle and yeah Staind was actually pretty good...
You would have been in miiddle school. I was in the 8th grade when this came out, which means you would have been in the 6th. I am 41 now, was 14 when this came out in 96.
Same, I actually had to go out my way to find this type of genre because nowadays mainstream music is kind of boring. Like idk if its me but its like new music is made just for monetization to where for some songs the purpose seems desensitized and disingenuous almost. Overall I got sick of hearing people make songs flexing money, women, and violence.
This song still feels fresh like it could have been recorded yesterday it doesn’t have that old 90’s-00’s sound to it. And fuck that bass tone is amazing!!
I’m 23 , this song is on replay on most days! Always knew this song but when I grew up, had a child & went through heart break with my sons mother. This DEFINITELY helped. 🤘🏻
I love staind came across them in my late teens and still listen them loads even now in my 30's. Sorry that you went through heart break. I always find music can help you through rough times and lift you up and staind is one of those bands you can really connect to. Glad this song helps, stay strong
no. its a coincidence and nothing more. all pop songs are written like fortune cookies. turn this crap off. write your own song about what you are going through.
Will forever remain a badass song!
That fucking bass line!!!!
This song has one of the coolest riffs ever written, absolute mastery of harmonics.
Duh bro that’s not a harmonica
Andy Nolfo can’t tell if this is bait or not lol
Nerdy Birdy 😂 you caught me. I was seeing what kind fury I could call down upon me
I figured it was a pedal effect or something....its right there but I just cant think of the name of the effect....that would be hard as hell too scale up and down while doing harmonics like that
I met him and sat front row at a show his vocals are unbelievably good
This is one of those songs that must be absolutely blasted at full volume.... no exceptions!!
Take it from Chris Taylor folks
Hell yeah... it's an unwritten rule..
Definitely should have the volume up high
And when it's over, then, wonder what happened to the rest of the songs they wrote. I was so disappointed with the band.
Good band but the sound went totally in the opposite direction of what I expected.

That’s messed up.
You missed disturbed, and the fact that the guy of the video is tne same one in video Voices
Jon will never be forgotten. Legend 🔥
I've seen Staind in concert a few times. This song FREAKIN ROCKS live in concert. Lost my shit every single time.
i just went to the one here in indiana and it was a banger.
RIP Jon... Your voice and music is what I lived though. I didn't fail. I became a Business Owner doing Hardwood, Paint and Stone. Left her behind. N
Such an awesome band.
damn I remember lime wire than frost wire lol I used to get all my shit there
+Sheldon Cooper i got music videos from there. Then all it had were covers or live versions of the songs.
Dee Liteful Limewire and Kazaa!
Damian DeBord Wasn't there another one with a bear as its logo? Bearwire maybe? Lol I can't remember
Dee Liteful Indeed there was and you might be right on the name but my memory isn't all that great either lol. Kazaa was my first and then It was the computer STD ridden Limewire but zero fucks were given just give me muh music!
STAIND ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
DAMN! Fifteen years already to this day since that album was released. Time sure flies when you're not having fun. One of my favorite Staind song ever tho'....
You made this comment 7 years ago!
22 years now
I think I've developed PTSD after being an ER nurse during this pandemic. I see the faces of the patients we lost when I close my eyes. This song helps.
awww thank you for your service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can we get more thank you's for this HERO RIGHT HERE!!!!!
This song has alot of meaning...if you have experienced the feeling being around someone who is a liar and depletes everything you have
I see you've met my sister....
That guitar is fire 🔥 0:01
That’s a good ole bass guitar riff
Bruh, I love bass guitar. And lamp.
Flashback Friday 🤘🏼 0:15
Today is friday
This song still rocks!
This has to be one of my favorite Staind songs ever
Man, 1999 called....
Good to hear from you ol' buddy!
I’m 29 I’m still listening been listening my whole life! One of my favorites
Rest in peace Jon. His father taught in my high school.
His name was actually Jon, but I know your intentions are good.
What happened? I have not heard of this. I just came on here randomly wanting to hear a classic song from my youth.
@@JC-ft5orthe drummer Jon (on this video) died recently
Wish I could go back to this time
Reminds me of a highschool love who just passed away last year from breast cancer.
She was my first and we jammed to this band from day one.
RIP Ash.
I will never forget the memories you gave me.
Almost 50 years old and still banging to this
Everything that this band created was gold
this song forever on will bring me to tears last year i brought my mother to a staind korn concert and that would be the last one we'd see together before her passing now this song stil hurts
Heard this song live, still gives me goosebumps when I hear it!!
When she says I love you..and Aaron Lewis made that face.. dude I felt that shit man.. I'm in it now. You won't take away..I'll be whole again..
thats right!
When...?
Turn it up!
"you can feel my anger, u can feel my pain" man that kills when that kicks in wow
I was 14 when my dad showed me this song and I’m 15 now and I can’t stop listening to it
Your dad is a good man! Keep listening to them!
I was nine and I managed to stumble upon it while listening to Turbo. I’m ten going on eleven currently.
Turbo’s a radio station on SiriusXM
lol, this song is much older than you are XD (its 22 this october)
i was graduating high school when this song came out.
I was born in 96… just barely old enough to have heard most of this type of music firsthand
Oh how this song brings back memories
He seems to have mellowed out in his old age.
Yup. He's a country singer now.
Kinda what happens when you get older .....
We all do and will.
Everyone does.
I may not be a fan of this band but damn, this song is fucking great. That bass, man. You can’t not love it. Same thing with the use of effects on the guitar. I mean, this is one of the many songs I’d listen to on a long road trip, especially at night.
Harmonics on the 5th, 4th, and 3rd fret is the main riff. No effects; merely use of harmonics in a very cool fashion.
Bass and guitar reminds me of Bully soundtrack, if this song wasn't an inspiration than it's just a lovely coincidence.
I was in high school when this band blew up... 39 now and it's always an amazing listen.
middle school and i honestly got sick of them cause "It's Been Awhile" was so overplayed.
Born in 2002 but I’m cultured enough to where this is legitimately one of my top 5 favorite songs
04:)
We accept you with open arms.
@@spiritualdilemma1364 like creed. LOL
2008
A beautiful, gut wrenching, heart tugging riff. Amazing what a sound can do.
Haven't heard this song in at least 15 years.
This song still feels fresh like it could have been recorded yesterday it doesn’t have that old 90’s-00’s sound to it. And fuck that bass tone is amazing!!
Very true, they were super ahead of their time when it came to the whole 2000s rock aesthetic
This was an awesome song early 2000. Then I got married and now divorced 5 years now. Now it resonates in a new way.
That bassline is rollin sick ...moshh piitttt
After all these years, that opening bass still resonates in my skull like im hearing for the first time.
Never gets old...Hating my ex that is.
Same here
I'm bitter and cordial about it.
Luis O did she rip you apart w/ the grown up things she says? 🤔
this song was written for my ex wife.
Try dry kill logics darkerside of nonsense
Yes we are still here
Does anyone else ever think a song was made for you because it's describes the exact situation your in??
no. its a coincidence and nothing more. all pop songs are written like fortune cookies. turn this crap off. write your own song about what you are going through.
thats why im a big fan!

Aaron Lewis is one of the most underrated artist. He is so talented.
