Like anything it's hard to pick a GOAT. They were and are the most under rated greatest band. The Internet and reaction videos are finally bringing them the acclaim they deserve.
As a child of the '80's, I personally like their so called 'synth era' and this is the song that made me a Rush fan less than one year ago. (The music video from 1982 also does a great job of telling the story of the song). As the '80s progressed, the synthesizers took more dominance, and during that time, Alex increasingly felt sidelined and had to create guitar parts to work alongside the banks of synths. Some fans don't like this era, but others feel that Alex's solos are especially creative during this era (because they had to be). Another great song from this era is 'Open Secrets' from 1987. I don't think they ever performed it live, but there is a lyric video to watch if you ever want to check it out. I also feel it contains some of Neil's most introspective lyrics about interpersonal relationships and communication issues. I think Geddy's voice was at its warmest and most melodic in the '80s, and he does a great job with the vocal in 'Open Secrets.'
RUSH holds 2nd place as the band without a line-up change at 48 yrs. Alex [lead guitar] and Geddy {Bass, Keyboardist, lead singer in school when they were 12 yrs old.
A former member of 3 different RUSH tribute bands I can tell you... Subdivisions is a very challenging song. I played bass & synths. When I was younger and had more energy it was fun! But as I got older it became too tiring!! I don't know how they did it!!
Glad you enjoyed, but please remember when you are reacting to bands like pink floyd, genesis and especially Rush, read the lyrics. Rush had great music, great musicianship and great lyrics. Have fun.
The keyboards started to take a lot of space that Alex, on guitar, would normally take up. It still is a great song but for those that like the traditional drums, bass, and guitar this was the start of a shift in their sound that some of the fans didn’t like as their earlier days. I suppose if you’re going to survive as a band for 40 yrs you have reinvent things to keep it fresh.
I saw RUSH 40 times including the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction. RUSH is simply the best band of all time!!

I totally concur. Best...ever.

I didn't mind it at all. It worked for their music. Didn't feel like it was forced in, it fit.
Watch the drums only video. 😊😮😮😮😊
Best band...ever.
