If you tape over the mastic, then there's no point in using the mastic in the first place. Maybe that's the manufacture or the utilities spec, but mastic is suppose to adhere to the cold shrink providing a water tight seal.
Looking for insight. Question: What is so tough, or rough, about being a groundman? Starting out as the lowman. Reason I ask: I spoke to a family member who is a lineman and he said "I must warn you it's a rough hard-a$$ job and the guys treat you like s*** at first" I was a fireman and I'm not a stranger to hard work, so I'm wondering what would make him say that? He was a plumber for 15 years and also is not a stranger to hard work so I'm just curious what I'd be getting myself into or why he would say that. Thanks 🙏
Wow you guys have it easy. I worked 4 summers at Kerite during college and we had to hand-tape all splices and terminations. No cold shrink silicone in the 1980s. This looks like Okonite cable. Still remember that smell.
No. You might end up messing up your insulation. If you remove semi-con first it doesn't matter because you're removing insulation anyway. Just the way I was taught 35yrs ago and it just became habit.
@@johnmcaleese8459 I hear ya there.. I started just using a utility knife and needle nose to do everything. The tools that are made for it are pretty foolproof once they are set up right
@@dusty275 Yeah I had all those splicing tools. Retired a couple yrs ago and left it all behind in a cloud of dust. Kinda stupid but I was like screw it. Climbing gear and all. I'm sure those vultures I was working with jumped all over that stuff. Retired at 55yrs old. Time to get back into my music I left behind all those yrs ago. Stay safe out there !! PEACE from Philadelphia

Always a pleasure to see Line work I’m also a Lineman in NY and can’t wait to get past this winter lol no one knows the struggles we go threw
I’ll gladly trade you. Come on down to Oklahoma for a winter.
Same in NY but I prefer winter over summer. 🤜🤛🗯
NY may not be bad but Manitoba sucks in the winter with temperatures reaching -40. What's bad about Oklahoma winters?
Yeah that’s definitely a rougher skin, be safe out there
@@Eric-xh9ee you a MB hydro lineman worker?
Thank you for your videos. You're awesome. Have a safe and blessed day brothers and sisters!!!!!
Loving you all!!!!
Your sister, Melissa
Bobs decline can do this job without getting out of his vehicle!
A little grease or cable cleaner on the semi and insulation tool makes life easier.
Man I can't wait to be there one day, pretty badass, work safe out there brothers
How odd.. Cruising through videos and find one doing what I get to do Monday ! 😄
Looking for insight.

Cooper shield looks like it might be a little easier than concentric, in the air in particular

I see a plastic resin watch, but a metal ring...
#weouthere . Must be nice. Utility lineman here. Still climbing pole on UA-cam
Also does this job ever become second nature, or even routine?
Watching this video over a year after I posted this comment. Still no answer
Dos personas para hacer algo tan sencillo
Should strip insulation first ! Less semi con to strip off.. cool video though!

I know it linework but
Ever thought about ditching the line crew for a spot on a sub crew?
Eww...that's a horrible trade.
Remove the music! Great video btw.
WHERE'S YOUR GLOVES?
Wtf why would he be wearing gloves? He’s splicing cable
@@danielbab3888 You can go bare handed if you want to. I never did.
@@Poppabill48 gloves suck
We always have to wear them
@@Joe-rw1bb I understand that, not everyone wants to wear them though. I wear them most of the time but sometimes I take mine off
Psh
Annoying music
As another commentor said, annoying music. And completely unnecessary. Made me stop watching.
Wtf did I just watch? All I have to say is find a different company to work for.. Things are definitely better on the other side.
