kinda late but this song is amazing me and my mom are fans of maya and when i told my mom she came out with a song my mom wanted to hear it and when she did she said “this song is a work of art she tells a deep meaning in this song” and then continued to listen to it on repeat which i love
Also, the line “get her down, get her off the wall” is in reference to two women who called themselves feminists… but they started a petition to take the painting down from public view rather than do what feminism is actually for and fight for it to not be seen as sexual. The whole situation is heartbreaking and beautiful, and I’m happy that so many people are finally seeing the truth behind this song
I read alot about Balthus's works, especially Therese. The video, I think, is brilliant and controversial and yes, also erotic. It took guts. The song itself is hypnotic , disturbing, appealling. Brilliant. Balthus was very strange, perverse, but accomplished what Art should : make us feel, think, open our minds. Bravo, too, for displaying a perfectly normal bodily event.
Actually its about a painting, ‚Thérèse dreaming‘ you can search it up,look at the art and read the articels about it.But yea its also about woman getting oversexualized.
It’s referring to a painting called “Thérèse Dreaming” by Balthus. A painting of an 11 or 12 year old girl in a state of daydreaming, but it has been sexualized over the years (by even modern day “feminists”) for the fact that the girl’s skirt is painted in a way that shows a small amount of her white underwear between her legs. It’s a beautiful painting from a time when women’s “nudity” (or even partial state, in this case) was seen as a form of purity, but of course modern ideals have twisted that to be some sort of theorized p3doph1liac relationship between the painter and model (when it isn’t). To top it all of the line in the song “get her down, get her off the wall” is in reference to the two “feminists” I mentioned earlier. They started a petition to make the Metropolitan Art Museum take the painting down, censor it, or put a warning that basically degraded anyone who views the painting sexually. This petition failed as far as I’m aware (I myself am a feminist, and the two who petitioned to take the painting down disgust me, as it means they themselves viewed the painting sexually. The whole point of feminism is to make it so paintings like “Thérèse” are not viewed as scandalous)

I go see Thérèse dreaming

It's just Thérèse
It's just Thérèse
White kitten in the corner
Obscene
It really says it all
Milk matches her underwear
Get her down
Take her off the wall
She dreams of Marlon in Austin
Their bodies tangled in a net
She thinks of him every so often
When she feels like a space cadet
She empathizes with your feelings
She's more interested in the ceilings
It's tactless, it's a test
It's just Thérèse
It's just Thérèse
It's tactless, it's a test
It's just Thérèse
It's just Thérèse
She reminds me of memories
Sleeping off the growing pains
We were seeing enemies
spelling out each others names
Whispering inside our red house
While the adults were asleeping
I guess Thérèse is just for me
A quiet I keep on keeping
Thérèse does not belong to you
The horses, cars, and cowboys do
It's tactless, it's a test
It's just Thérèse
It's just Thérèse
It's tactless, it's a test
It's just Thérèse
