Thank goodness someone gets it, glad that even the crew got his context. A lot of people took as him complaining that he was forced to do it and he really didn’t want to.

I think it's because for a lot of ppl, it isn't an "emblematic/iconic" character.
For me it's meh. It's an ok choice. It's a least not a JRPG character and for once a character NOT from a japanese company. wich is 99% of the characters in that game.
Minecraft is HUGE for a lot of ppl, especially young ones since it's super popular again and will be for years.
I'm honestly more hyped about the map/soundtrack.
The only angle I could see somebody being disappointed a bit is because Minecraft isn't known for its characters. All the other fighters are in the game because they are iconic characters. Minecraft is iconic but Steve definitely isn't. If they for example had him as a costume and had a Minecraft stage sure but there's no personality in that character.
Steve is about to deck everyone for stealing his diamonds.

The "wing thing" is in Minecraft as of version 1.9 and up. It's called "elytra" (which, many people don't know, is a real word: it's the scientific name for beetle wings). They were originally gliders, but then the devs added the ability to set off firework rockets while gliding to accelerate, giving players actual rocket-powered flight indefinitely as long as you have enough rockets.
(And as long as you have mending on the elytra!)
@@fleentstones117 Mending isn't going to keep the wings alive in the air, and if you're stopping to repair them anyway, you don't need mending for that either (you can repair elytra with phantom membranes).

Why do people hate this? This is amazing I'm actually incredibly surprised they added this to smash. I totally agree to this. Who knew minecraft and smash bros could be a thing. I dont regret it I really think it's cool!
Frankly this could open the door for more cross overs. I’m hoping this is an inspiration for other games too.
The haters always sound louder when they shout, but they are a minority compared to the many that love this. So people don't hate it, the massive Minecraft community love it, and some that haven't tried smash bros before will be drawn into that game too. Its a win win.

I really liked this reveal, I’m a casual player and I’m not really updated on a lot of gaming news so I saw the trailer essentially blind - zero expectations/theories whatsoever. I liked it a lot because, like Aaron said, I thought it’s so unique.
And am I the only one who thought Sakurai was lowkey bragging that he pulled off getting Minecraft for Smash despite the obvs “wizardry” that was needed to make it happen? LOL. Some people took it as him basically complaining or coming clean that he was forced to do it by Nintendo but he said so himself that he enjoys playing Minecraft so I think he was just being sarcastic in the beginning.
I think it was a bit of both complaining and sarcasm.

Those ‘wings’ that you saw are called the elytra, a chestplate that’s basically a combination of a jetpack and a hang glider that you power by firework rockets, you find it in the end fortresses and you pretty much need it if you want an easier time exploring the many floating islands in the end and to have a much faster way to travel
Also, the ‘baby zombie’ was just a zombie with the poison mushroom that was meant to resemble a baby zombie

Since Steve’s Final Smash is just footage taken from an actual Minecraft world, I have no doubt in my mind people are already figuring out what seed that is, and what the coordinates are.

My most wanted character! Absolutely love it!
"It's a dream come true, just not my dream come true." I hope this is a attitude people can develop going forward. Smash Ultimate I think is brilliant with it's stance on "Everyone is here!" and the fact that it's such an open ended topic in of itself. Everyone is indeed here and we've seen some unique characters since DLC pack 1. I personally didn't expect Joker or Hero, and my brain is still stuck on "jdhnfgjkdfng TERRY IS IN SMASH!" I wasn't the most hyped for Min Min having never played Arms, but I still was willing to try and give her a shot. I'm thinking Steve is going to be one of those character that'll bring just a lot of chaos and randomness to a battle, and honestly I like that idea.

I'm quite literally in the opposite position. I have always been a fan and part of the Minecraft universe/community, yet I have very minimal knowledge of Smash Bros. I'm just glad that Minecraft is being represented in other successful games.
I have to admit: When zombie appeared and the music played I fell in love. The stage music is good and that's all I like about Minecraft coming to Smash.
I'd truthfully love to see you four stream minecraft sometime.

- *Side Tilt Attack:* Sword swing. Can keep walking while using this attack.
- *Up Tilt Attack:* Axe swing upward.
- *Down Tilt Attack:* Flint & steel. Kindles a flame in front.
- *Dash Attack:* ???
- *Neutral Air Attack:* ???
- *Forward Air Attack:* Pickaxe chop.
- *Back Air Attack:* Pickaxe swing behind.
- *Up Air Attack:* Axe swing upward.
- *Down Air Attack:* Anvil drop.
- *Side Smash:* Hard sword swing.
- *Up Smash:* ???
- *Down Smash:* Pours lava to both sides.
- *Grab:* Fishing rod.
- *Pummel:* ???
- *Throws:* Piston block, maybe for all directions.
- *Neutral Special:* TNT block, including redstone trail and step-sensitive detonator.
- *Side Special:* Setting block in front or below. (Some were walking forward while doing this, so side makes the most sense)
- *Up Special:* Minecart on the ground, or elytra wings in the air.
- *Down Special:* Crafting table. Likely required to make and upgrade the sword (and maybe other weapons).
Maybe you have to actually mine and craft in order to get the pistons and weapons
The craziest part is that you can mine stuff and I’m the Minecraft map where there’s blocks above ground, they actually break and you still get the materials! And you have an inventory and you can even build, craft and smash with an anvil?! Like that’s insane! Hint: using shield and neutral you can spawn a crafting table using your wood
I don't play Minecraft, but this sounds like a good choice. I think I'm more interested in fighting Steve then playing as Steve.

I had 0 expectations for this fighter reveal and was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I'm wondering is what the music score will be like. I don't really like the ambient music in the game.
Edit: ok so after some feedback I've looked up a couple of recommended minecraft songs and I can safely say that I haven't heard any of these before. Not sure why I've missed them before, but I am confident that Smash Bros can make these work for the game

To clarify a bit, I play the ps4 version of minecraft so I've only ever heard the same quiet repetitive music for 15 minutes each on a loop so I usually just mute it or put in a podcast. The song in the smash bros trailer was beautiful, but I've never heard it before and I'm wondering 1) where it's from, and 2) what new songs will I discover

I just wanna say, if Steve is ever able to get you off the stage it might just be a game over. Just build a wall so they can’t ledge grab and your pretty golden. I think the building alone will probably place him at a high skill level
I personally loved this reveal, since it was a crossover of two of my favorite games, but personally I think the Enderman should've been an assist trophy and the Skeleton should've replaced it as an alt. color. The Creeper would be a good assist aswell.
