- Video from Keller Farms in Burkettsville Ohio and they chop corn silage and fill one of their 148 foot tall silos.
The music clip used toward the end of this video is a Sound Effect called "Kickflip Medium". from iMovie which is the program I use to edit all my videos. - Авто та транспорт
I spent more days and nights than I can count at my friend's farm off in the distance at 12:20 or so. I never actually realized how unique those silos were. Great video, Mike!
Mike you make a very nice video and are extremely knowledgeable on all farming thanks again
Awesome video Mike! Huge silos wow! There are still some used in this area as well, not that many. That must be very nice feed green silage in the middle of winter!
Hey Mike, I keep coming back to this video. I am very impressed with the Sollenberger silos. I researched the cost of building one of the 30x148 silos and it was about $120,000 with unloader system included. Those big boys should last a lifetime if not longer. In comparison a 25x90 Harvestore with unloader is about $210,000. Great video Mike!! Thanks.
In my days biggest upright cement silo was 24 by 90
Beautiful farm. Glad to see they're using the uprights look like SS out of Pennsylvania. Nice video.
I didn't know that any company built forage silos this tall. Those are some great looking silos! I researched them on the Sollenberger Silos website. The walls are 6" thick and I am going to assume they were continuous pour concrete. The website said a 30x148' silo should hold 4,000 tons with density 2x that of a bunker. Would be nice to have a man lift elevator system! Always appreciate a neatly kept farm and that you got this video of the farm for all to enjoy. I had a New Holland Whirl-a-Feed 40, 1000 rpm blower and it may have been able to handle the 148' silo. It had tremendous force and capacity. Just a thought. My tallest silo was 60' but the NH 40 could handle it even with reduced rpm's. Usually ran a Famall 706 on it. Sometimes used an IHC 3388. Nice video Mike! Will wait patiently for the haylage video you mentioned!!
Thank you Mike. I do remember the farm and video. The shoot with the drone at that height seeing brids flying under it was a good shoot but, i can understand why you were worry.
Nice video Mike. Interesting to see how different silaging is in the US compared to here. Over here, I never saw silos like that being used for silage.
Some real awesome shots you got Mike very nice
Great video as always Mike. It must take up a lot of your time but it’s well worth it
More info on the silos? Never heard of such a tall silo. Very unique find. Thanks Mike.
I'm pretty sure they were built Sollenberger Silos out of Chambersburg Pennsylvania.
Thanks again Mike. They're still in business and have a lot of information on their website. We used to have trouble finding a good blower for our 80' Harvestore. That must be quite a blower they found to use for these silos. Sure sounds like a beautiful area you're at.
But definitely a another awesome and great video!!
Nice drone work mike
Monteagle made a good silo up in Monteagle Tennessee and the tallest I've ever seen of there silo was 80 ft!!
A great area of the state with great people.
Great video!
Absolutely gorgeous farm and country!!!thanks for the video
i don't know why people always give a dislike? you don't need to see this. but in my opinion Mike always do great videos!!
This how i look at dislikes as it is other view and action for the channel. UA-cam does not care one way or the other it is still money in there pocket and Mikes.
I wonder that sometimes also. If only they had to give an explanation on the dislike. It could just be something as simple as they don't like the brand of equipment in the video.
Dislikes are probably ag bag and bunk guys lol. I know this fella who owns the farm is in Silo Junkies. They recently switched all 3 silos to Valmetal "Hybrid" top unloaders. The "big jim" style didn't work out.
WOW 148' top unload! I have seen a Solenberger 30'x148' with a Flying Dutchman bottom unloader, the bottom 20' was a drive in spot on their website. But these take the cake! What is the diameter? Food for thought, tallest ladder truck I know of is 137' Built by E-One. Wow.
Nice video!
That is unbelievable to have a silo 148 feet tall. That is the tallest silo I have ever heard of in the US. I would hate to have to climb these silos.
Yeah, it would take awhile to get to the top but the view would be worth it!!
It would be interesting to see when this farm unloads out of these silos and the unloader working too.
awesome video they also could use Field Line 440 forage blower nothing else compete with that one
I watched one if them in lacaster.. im pretty sure they could blow silage 200 ft
What a farm !!!
Hi Mike ,Love this video. What diametre are those big silos?
We had Dotson silos when I was a kid 25/75 tall
Who gets the short straw to clime those silos 70 feet was enough for me
Wow 148ft silo that's a big silo
would love to be out in the field working my tail off because it reminds me of when I was still on the farm.
Their tractors are all 2 wheel drive. That’s unusual these days.
Paul Hudson they need horsepower not traction as the land there is pretty flat. 2wd tractors are cheaper
impressive
Mike, what kind of blower do they even use to get silage up a 148' tall silo?! I know they have had problems just getting up to 100', but 148' ... wowzers ... I kinda figured they had to use the old Gehl blowers. I loved them. Especially since I'm from WI. I miss Gehl choppers, wagons & blowers.
I had one of those gehl blowers back when I used to milk 11 years ago, it sat in my shed till last year, sold it to a friend local for 425.
I know where one is for sale in Va.
I have one it does great on my silos
I don't see any brakes at the wagons, is this in US usual?
How many bushels capacity does a 148-foot silo have?
I don't know much about the farm issue, but I like it and want to learn.
Nice video Mike😁👍🏻
Not sure on Bushels, but on their website they have one, and they claim in can hold over 4k tons of corn silage depending on what the crop is like.
How old are those silos?
Have you heard of Fair Oaks farms in Northwest Indiana? They have 32000 dairy cows and farm 32000 acres of crops.
Yes I have been there years ago and still go by them every now and then.
Nice 👍
How wide are they How many acres of corn to fill them
Is this farm associated with Keller feed and grain in Greenville?
Not that I now of.
148 ft is huge. I thought that 80 to 90 ft was tops. Do they fill them all with corn or do they put hay in one?
They actually recommend to not build over 100’ if you’re going to fill it with haylage/triticale/etc. when you get to the bottom, it would be to packed and extremely hard for the unloader to feed out.
Really neat video. Is this a dairy farm or a feedlot?
Dairy farm
@@farmhandmike I would definitely hate to climb up them silos!!! Always thought climbing 80 foot silos was bad enough! It was definitely a another great video though!! Thanks for sharing it!!
The trailer hitsch does not look very reliable
The silo must be bottom unloaded
After about 70ft I run out breath climbing a silo.
They need a fieldline blower. Nothing blows like them!
What is special about that blower? And that looks like wet feed!
That to wet of silage for silo that tall you can see the juice coming out .ya a pour silo at that
looks like wet silage to be going into such a tall silo
I wondered about that too. You would think there will be a lot of "juicing" coming out of the silo at the bottom. Are there perhaps drainage pipes in the foundation??
Gerard Heck still wouldn't want that mess. when a silo "runs" its a mess.
@@craigthoennes2829 Yeah Craig, I hear you. There can be a miniature "lake" around the silo with excess drainage. I recall a time when we had to clean up around a silo because of that. It would be interesting how the farm addresses that issue. There doesn't seem to be any drainage around the silo in the video. But then the silage at the bottom of the silo is going to be very wet when feeding out gets to that point....???? Curious....those are sure some impressive silos.
Gerard Heck 148 ft tall....very impressive
