    Great video. I don't have nor do I plan to have a 39 transmission. However, I do have an 51 Ford transmission (3sp w/od). I enjoy learning how things work and transmissions are one realm of automotive work that I've not yet tried to repair. One of these days I will need to and videos like this give a guy a little confidence. thanks

    I have a 78-7006 with the newer gears and double synchros , but the case looks bad where the bottom cluster has that 4 way notched bushing , bushing looks bad and case is eaten away some where the bushing was spinning , I have a good 48-7006 case that has older gear set and is popping out of gear , can I put all the newer gears with a rebuild kit into the 48 case ? It’s going into a 36 truck , I also have a 18-7006 case that’s perfect but I’ve read that can’t be used with the bigger clutch , thank you in advance

    We spoke via FaceTime today (so you know who I am) - thought I would post this question here so others might get the benefit of your answer. I have the 48-7006 transmission (that you will be rebuilding for me very soon) with a 9" clutch. Can I upgrade to a larger clutch (10-11" for example) with out having to drill my flywheel? I'b be thrilled to be able to upgrade to the 10" clutch if it's a simple bolt-on upgrade. Thanks

    Of the 3 roller bearings; the 2 short go in the cluster and the long one goes in the input shaft. My problem is the main shaft seems to hit the input shaft bearing and lacked approx 1/8" from going home. What am I missing?

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop
      @WiredCustomsSpeedShop  3 роки тому

      If I and understanding you right, sounds like the bearing from the inside of the input shaft isn’t going in all the way, I would try cleaning the inside of the input shaft really well but it’s hard to say without pictures, feel free to message me on Facebook, Instagram or send me an email with the pictures

      it sounds like the rear suspension or even the crossmember could have a problem, my guess is that the torque tube is jamming up into the transmission and putting it under a lot of pressure, I would try loosening the engine mounts and trans mounts and see if you can push the engine forward any

      I have an early ford box that I converted to open drive for a 27 t coupe, It will be put behind a 327 chevy so it should have enough torque and hp and rpms so it should be fine as it is. I have an old adapter to run that box behind a chevy. The model T had to have the ford box, hou just cant beat the look and comfort of the shifter with the v8 logo on it.

    • @WiredCustomsSpeedShop

      The weird but true answer is that it’s pretty much the same but a little different, the 39 will have a better shift tower, better gear ratio, and synchronized 2nd and 3rd, also the earlier transmissions will have straight cut gears opposed to helical cut gears, as far as disassembly, and rebuilding, they are almost exactly he same
