    Hi, i have installed phillips hue into my home assistant using a hue bridge, all works well but the hue smart button just has a battery entity so not sure how to use this as a trigger

    Enjoyed that thanks 😀👍. Looking forward to the next tutorial, hoping it’s going to help me with a going to bed routine. I would like to be able to say to Alexa, “going to bed” and 5 mins later all lights go off and lights only go to 10% brightness if triggered until a set time in morning. (Hint hint 🤞😀🤞) Cheers

    i have a very old lrge house so need to extend zigbee signal so bought 4 lidl hubs but cannot work out how to install all of them but you have philips and lidl how have you done that?

      I don't use lidl hubs or Philips hubs as Zigbee extenders, many Zigbee device act like a mesh network, you only need one hub (I have a conbee II stick)

    Is it possible to control a hue lamp through homeassistant from a knx switch? (knx light switch - homeassistant - hue bridge - hue lamp)

    • @SmartHomeMakers
      @SmartHomeMakers  3 роки тому

      Hi Pascal! If the hue lamp has power it will work, you also have a knx integration in home assistant: www.home-assistant.io/integrations/knx/

    If I have a zigbee light bulb on the same circuit as a normal dumb gang switch, but I want to replace the gang to a smart gang to either send zigbee or wifi signal to homeassistant, which gang do I need?

    • @SmartHomeMakers
      @SmartHomeMakers  4 роки тому

      Hi PurplePois0n, you can mix & match, you can have a Zigbee bulb and a Wi-Fi switch for example, was that your question? I use a Sonoff switch with Lifx bulb in one room, but I could swap it out with a Zigbee bulb if I wanted!

      @@purplepois0nbf by having a Shelly or a similar device inside the wall you can wire the neural and live wires together, meaning the light is always on

    I use a tasmotised sonoff mini. But instead of powering the relay on and off by flipping the light switch. I toggle the state of my smart hue light using a home assistant automation triggered by the state change of the physical light switch connected to the mini. That way I have a cheap WiFi light switch that is able to control smart lights without the hassle of changing batteries every month.

    • @SmartHomeMakers
      @SmartHomeMakers  4 роки тому

      That is cool! How many sonoff mini do you have ? Found any limitations or interference ?

    • @Jannick-mp7bf
      @Jannick-mp7bf 4 роки тому +1

      I currently have two of them installed. I didn’t experience any interfence with the hue lights and the sonoff mini (WiFi version btw). The only trouble I had was with my automation. When the sonoff mini went to unavailable my light unintentionally changed state. But this was simply fixed by a not condition.

  • @joaomruas
    @joaomruas 4 роки тому +2

    The problem I have is that there is no space for two sonoff minis in one EU electrical box. so "two gang" lights are a problem here.
    Also my two cents,
    The best setup (in my opinion) for retrofitting a house is to use relay switches combined with Zigbee bulbs. (Zigbee bulbs connect faster from cold state (no power) and meshing is usefull.
    - Obviously it's expensive and requires electrical work.
    + good aesthetics with the same interaction has before.
    + individual brightness control
    + local control even in the event that wifi and zigbee go down.
    + if a bulb fails any house member can swap the bulb for a normal one.

  • @Leonvolt28

    a smart switch is the way to go in my opinion. Not only can you control the light when the wifi or homeassistant is not running. But you can also configure the touch buttons to do other things with a long press. I got a sonoff touch and i'm using it esphome. a long press toggles my ledstrips under my desk.

  • @mattecrystal6403

    I'm confused why does both switch and relay require electrical work? Isn't one supposed to basically be a portable remote control that you stick on you're wall?

    Don't forget the WAF (Wife Approval Factor)... replacing bulbs with Zigbee- or WiFi bulbs can become annoying, especially when the wife turns the light (and thus the Zigbee- or WiFi bulb) off using the wall switch. Shelly 1L doesn't need a neutral wire anymore if he load exceeds 20 watt, if the load doesn't exceed 20 watt you can install a resistor. This way the wife can control the lights the way she wants (my wife 10 out of 10 times using the wall switch) and us tech savvy guys can control the lights using app/home assistant/domoticz.
