I know it's not a 32 ford coupe, but I built a 1968 Toyota Corona 4 door. The little canary yellow deuce coupe inspired me to get that look. I even had it painted that color put my own twist to it put a set of Appleton spot lights with white wall tires with the stock hub caps with 3 prong knock offs on the caps. I put a shorten 51 Buick grill with 4 chrome bumber guards on the front bumber of of a older BMW. I took it to many car shows in California got a lot of thumbs up. The car was excellent on gas at the time gas was $1.10 a gallon. This was in 1989 pretty simple car the Japanese made the engine after a straight 6 cylinder but it was a 4 cylinder if I was a welder and fabacater back then I would have doe a lot more fabrication work to really look like a 32 ford coupe could have done something with the whole front end and put some fabricated back fenders off a VW to put wider tires on the back with the thin tires in the front. This is when kidsor teenager's young adults were building mini truck seen, I built a mini old style Toyota Corona I still own own to this day my father left me his car when he past away. no the originals back in fifties that they hot rodded in the fifties probably had flatheads in them. do t have anything against a chevy small block but the Ford small block is just as good and fast as a chevy, no need to put a chevy in a Ford.
Flatheads were the engine of choice up until 1953 or so, as that’s when the Chrysler Hemi was introduced. Then, Chevy introduced the 283 small block in 1955. The OHV engines produced more horsepower than the flatheads, so guys started replacing their flatheads with Hemis, Small block Chevys, Oldsmobiles, and Ford Y Blocks, etc. The Chevy small blocks were pretty much the exact same size and weight as the Ford Flathead, and they were cheap to buy and easy to work on and hop up for more horsepower. Hence, their popularity grew over time. However, back in the fifties and sixties there was a bigger variety of OHV engines seen in hot rods (Hemis, Oldsmobiles, Ford Y blocks and big blocks, Ardun converted flatheads, etc) than one sees today. The small block Chevy is a good engine, no doubt. But they are like belly buttons…everyone has one. 😊😊
