    @matbroomfield Yes but that is w.k.f version!! The shorinryu version is different in a lot ways this is more modern.

    @ryukuykenpo74 Oh yes, I realise that, but I was curious to know if it is your assessment that the Shorin Ryu version is truer to original combat intent of the kata?

    @matbroomfield Kata was a way of passing down the fighting system of ti ,later named karate,Over the years karate has changed from a real fighting art to a sport ,Today some Master's teach the old way ,Kata's and then the bunkai, no walking up and down Puching and kicking in lines, I'm sure lot's of karateka love that part of sport karate but it's not the way karate was passed on to students in 1400-1500's . If people like the modern way, that's fine with me. kind regards

    @ryukuykenpo74 Thank you for your reply. So would I be correct in thinking that the WKF version is performance optimised, whereas the shorinryu version is more about the intent?

    Historically, does this version predate shotokan bassai dai?
