If you travel outside Ireland, you'll be upset to discover that RTE Player doesn't work quite the same. Instead from anywhere else you'll get redirected to the international version of RTE Player.
It's not too bad but misses lots of the best programmes especially things like sport and dramas which are broadcast. There is a way to maintain that link to the full version whilst outside Ireland however simply use a VPN to hide your real location.
This video demonstrates the use of some software called Identity Cloaker which can give you control of your IP address switching it between countries as required.

I have just tried streaming RTE in the UK using Identity Cloaker but the player says: you appear to be using an unblocker or proxy, please switch this off and try again. It no longer works.
Try connecting using a different IP address. Unfortunately sometimes the addresses do get blocked by RTE temporarily and you'll get that error. Their support should be able to help you too (Identity Cloaker)

In Ireland, BBC, Channel 4, Sky One are available on cable and satellite. But in the UK we don't get RTE, TV3 or TG4.
The RTE Player app works in England. Not sure how much of the catch-up is missing, but you can watch the channels live.
I got the STV app today too - the hilarious thing is, to get the full Scottish content, you just need to put in a Scottish postcode (e.g. EH11AD).
Its not fair :( I want RTÉ to be nationwide 😡
Actually the RTÉ app gets taken over by adds that don’t play but prevent you from accessing the actual app

Hi, You can setup the VPN manually on a chrome book, there's instructions in the members area. You'd be best emailing their support for up to date instructions - support@identitycloaker.com . I'm sure they'll reimburse you if you don't want to do it manually (although it's not difficult) - hope that helps.

Does this program work on mobile?
It does but you have to setup each VPN manually, rather than use the software. You then enable/disable whichever VPN when you need it. Takes a few minutes for each one to set up initially. They have instructions for iPhone and Android in the members area. I have four setup on my phone - USA, UK, Ireland and French but you could set up more.
