nice tent I have the msr lite stove that I got in 92 when my scout troop went on a 2 week canoe trip to Canada and it still works today so ya they are not cheap but their stuff is high quantity and lasts forever two thumbs up for the video
I have the old version of Hubba and I love it. No problem to fit two persons into Msr 2p tent. When it is great weather I usually only put up the inner tent. I like Msr tents because you dont have two crawl around in the tent, you can sit up without problems ( my length is 190cm). My camping partner is 195cm and he fits as well without any problems.
I have camped fall and winter winds between 30 and 40 mph no issues of course I have it guyed out for those conditions, I recommend this tent although it may be a little heavy for back packing.
Wow what a large rain fly !! I got two cheap tents for Mr and my youngest son. Yah your right the size is for you and your gear !! wow that rain fly is super duper!!
I remember watching this video about 3 years before I got sober. Trying to find something for a potential hardcore motorcycle trip. Yes, I also do that nowadays. Got a newer video? Smaller the better. Not sure a hammock is really an option on this one. I prefer that and already have one.
Looks like a well made tent,, and designed....price is a little tough for so much competition out there......but all said ,, maybe the best part of this video is the guitar track ,, I always say out loud "wish I could do that" ...nice work Brian........Stay Safe and God Bless .....
In my experience, if you’re going to use it more than a few times, ya gotta invest and that investment will pay you dividends for many, many years of reliable shelter performance, peace of mind and comfort. Priceless?
Nice tent and carry pack for a motorcycle. At 62 I now have trouble crawling around on my knees. I also have trouble lifting my feet over the coming while bent over. I'm looking for a similar tent that is taller. Glad to see you rolled the ground tarp in with the tent.
Hey man. Love the channel. New subscriber. Just bought the hubba hubba and put it to the test on a 3 day trek on the Cumberland trail in pretty severe weather and it is AWESOME! Well worth the price paid. Had thunderstorms with over 50 mph wind gusts and no problem for this tent. Thanks for the review.
Excellent channel - subscribed..... I've seen several reviews of this tent, but yours is definitely the most practical. I was on the fence getting one, but after watching your review, I bought one. Thanks again! Best... Roger
The middle curved pole needs to go above the main cross pole. Incorrect position of that short middle pole will affect the structural integrity of the tent.
Great design, the only thing that's a deal breaker for me is ventilation. I know you are Texas boy too, but I need a "screen house with a rain fly". When I camp it's usually 90+ degrees at 10 pm at night.
Actually, I'm a Georgia boy but I have been to Texas. And it has been pretty warm around here too. And you would have to open the rain fly to get much breeze in this but you could do that. And probably still sweat if your weather is like ours lately.
I am currently looking for a two man tent for moto camping. great stuff and thanks for sharing my friend. A lot of two man tents are now going to the foot print so you can set up in the rain or just use the rain fly. Dang those are the good tent steaks. I do like the way you can tension the foot print after you have it sneaked out, that is a cool feature. I agree, not a huge fan of the sleeves. makes it difficult to set up solo. Yes sir, one dude and some gear, I agree. They have come along way with the vents and the little pieces that will actually hold it open so air can move through easier. Man it packed up quick don't it. ehehe, fun video my friend. You may have just helped me make up my mind on my tow man tent for moto camping. Thank you sir and have a blessed week.
Me too. But in my recent kayak trip with the Boy Scouts we were on the beach with no trees. They had the REI version of this tent which I would bet is made by the same people and it worked great.
Seems like a great tent. To bad I just got a snugpak scorpion 2 or I'd be mighty tempted. Also enjoy the guitar picking Bryan. It reminds me of when I use to sit and listen to my uncle play and sing. He sounded so much like Hank Sr. Those were the good ole days.
1:40 FWIW the footprint does not work alone with the fly. Don't know why MSR would design that way but I am told that you can not go ultralight with just the fly and the footprint. Am I mistaken?
Who told you that? I have not used it that way but I have set up the footprint, frame and fly first in the rain so I could keep the tent dry. I can't think of a reason I could not have just left the tent out of the process.
During a rainstorm, is it easy to set up the tent after the frame, ground sheet and rain fly are up, thus keeping the inside tent dry during setup? Good video, thank you.
hello, is the compression stuff sack waterproof ? I mean could I put the packed tent on my bike and ride in the rain? I know there is a big opening, I'm just wondering about the material of the sack. To see if would be ok when I put the opening downwards.
I have this tent but it came with different stakes, and they are shorter.... another thing I like about this tent is all of the reflectors... I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and it fits my 6 yr old daughter and me...
This tent looks great for motocamping, so i dont mind a few extre oz's. But the pack size looks huuuge. Ive had a couple of big agnes tents and you can squash them down tiny. With that said im gonna give the hubba hubba a try because the space inside looks roomy
Nice tent. I'm with you, though about the number of people most tents are rated for. You can usually take 1 person away from the standard rating and be closer to the truth. Sometimes 2 people for the bigger ones. Ultralight tents are pricey...that's the nature of the beast if you want to save weight. It don't come cheap. How durable do you feel the tent in general, and the poles specifically, would be for the long haul? MSR products are usually top-notch.
+Godly Prepping Actually, we used some REI branded tents on our recent kayak trip that I am almost positive were a private label version of this very tent and I would bet they were made by the same people. There was only a minor difference in the fly so maybe it was last years version. They were already used on about 4 kayak trip by Boy Scouts, which is like 100 years by regular folks, and they were in great shape. I think they will wind up lasting a long time based on what I saw.
+Survival On Purpose haha! That's good enough for me. When I squirrel away some greenbacks, this is the tent I'm going to invest in, I think. My Coleman is just to heavy to pack out with at my age.
i live in washington and we get ALOT of rain i was wondering is it possible to setup the rainfly and footprint first and then erect the tent underneath that is the best solution i have found for putting up a tent in the rain without soaking the inside but this was another great video thanks man
So...you are out in the wilderness...and it has rained, and your tent fly is now wet...how would you stow your tent so that when you open it the inside of the fly is dry, and not dripping on you? That would be a good demo.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose They're 450.00 now because of the new Easton carbon fiber poles and XtremeShield waterproofing system. The tent was updated in November of 2020.
Whats the difference between my Magellan 3 person telico tent to this MSR HUBBA? I just wanna know if i reallly realllly need to spend 450 on another tent.
I have to ask, why do you still have that yellow slide in your yard. Your kids are never going to use it again are they????? Good video, MSR stuff is pretty darn good.
hey Brian thanks for the video I looked at the dimensions you had in your description but I couldn't really visualize it. I'm 6'2" do you think there will be enough room for me comfortably without having to lay diagonally?
The actual floor space dimensions are 84" x 50" , so you should be fine. These are very popular tents and 6'2" is not unusually tall. (Just taller than me,)
But would a vertical compression bag with a wide opening be better? so that you can take your tent poles out and compress it to smaller than what you could get with the horizontal compression.
There's a lot of options in this price range. This seems kind of spendy for a small one. Been a while since I priced out tents though. I remember when you could buy a brand new Honda Prelude sports car for $12,000 and it was nice. I remember when cigs were under $2.00 a pack for Marlboro. I remember when a five man tent set up was about $150.00. thx Brian
You've set this up wrongly here Brian, the ridge pole goes over the cross pole, not under. I've had two of these tents, the first one got trashed the first night I had it, completely destroyed by a breeze in Scotland. MSR did send me a replacement free of charge after I complained on Twitter. These tents are superb for lightweight backpacking in fine conditions but... if you need a tent to withstand anything more opt for a Hilleberg.
Survival On Purpose No worries brother, it's a great lightweight tent, it just cannot handle high winds, a pole snapped on mine and shredded the rainfly... that was a bad day.
Benedikt Lohmann Put it this way Benedikt, if the wind was more than 30mph I would be holding the poles against the flysheet all night. As I said, great tent for lightweight backpacking but useless in even moderate wind.
300$? Where? It's an officially 400$ tent... I say this because I have it, and it took a LONG internet search to find it around 300EUR (roughly 340$). I'd also add that there's also a green rain fly option (I went for that one) but it's a tad more difficult to find in green. I also got the footprint, and I must say it looks not quite that solid (looks like the same material as the rain fly). I'm heading into the mountains in a couple of weeks, so I'll do a more thorough testing of it then and there.
You are absolutely right - you CAN find it at around $300. Just as I could find it at 300EUR in Europe. What I was talking about is the manufacturer official price, which is $399.95, which seems to be also practiced by most of the big retailers
I bought it at the Cadillac Ranch Gift Shop just west of Amarillo Texas. It took me a minute but here is their FB page and their website. They have a giant 2nd Amendment Cowboy statue out front and 3 vintage caddys. FB Page: facebook.com/cadillacranchshop/ Website to order shirts and stuff: www.cadillac-ranch.com
Survival On Purpose that’s about the truth, if i used trekking poles id buy one of those fancy tents that utilize those. But sadly im lugging around a 6 pound tent myself lol
I think it is pretty much in line with pricing on comparable tents from well respected manufacturers. I can tell you there is very often a noticeable difference in quality as you go up in price when comparing tents.
Maybe it is just me but it is too expensive..... I think that for a shelter for a weekend trips it is quit expensive and not affordable price point. Can you bring to the channel a budget gear ?
I guess it is all relative. For someone who uses a tent a lot and plans to for a long time it could be a bargain. But, yes, I have a lower priced alternative coming soon. It is a little heavier but also less money. I have learned that the lower the weight the higher the price as far as a lot of outdoor gear goes.
And you got it wrong. The cross bar goes on top of the structure to be supported by it. Otherwise it hangs on that loop only and the tent is pitched wrongly, making the the characteristics of the tent blown out the window. People please pitch the tents the right way...
+Josh Ross I actually prefer my Hennessey Hammock but if I can't use it I like the insect protection tents provide. And we used what I am pretty sure is the REI branded version of this tent while kayaking in the Outer Banks last month where the bugs actually draw blood and the tents were great.
MSR stove great. This Hubba Hubba tent is terrible. I just bought one, unless you use this without a rain fly in absolutely perfect dry conditions it doesn't work. It leaks like crazy. The design is terrible. Yes its easy to set up which is great. But thats it. The rain fly sticks to the mesh, even in clear conditions the condensation leaks all over you. Light shower you are in for a bad night. Don't get it!!
I have this tent but it came with different stakes, and they are shorter.... another thing I like about this tent is all of the reflectors... I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and it fits my 6 yr old daughter and me...

Nice tent. Expensive though. Good review and great guitar pick'in Bryan.
Expensive is relative. If it performs better and lasts longer than a tent that costs less it might be a bargain.
300$? Where? It's an officially 400$ tent... I say this because I have it, and it took a LONG internet search to find it around 300EUR (roughly 340$). Quality backpacking tents are never cheap. Shhh, you did for get the specs...
Oops. Thanks for the reminder. I added them to the description.
That's fine but what happens if you are pitching in the rain the inside will get soaked, outer pitching tents much better
Huh? Not sure what you mean. You can also pitch the rain fly first and then the tent under it if it is raining.
nice
Thanks
MSR stove great. This Hubba Hubba tent is terrible. I just bought one, unless you use this without a rain fly in absolutely perfect dry conditions it doesn't work. It leaks like crazy. The design is terrible. Yes its easy to set up which is great. But thats it. The rain fly sticks to the mesh, even in clear conditions the condensation leaks all over you. Light shower you are in for a bad night. Don't get it!!
Mine has never leaked on me
Haha you unpacked it one way but then you packed it like a Boy Scout.
Old habits.....
Watch out for the zika virus.
The zika virus better watch out for me.
You and Chuck Norris.
I have this tent but it came with different stakes, and they are shorter.... another thing I like about this tent is all of the reflectors... I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and it fits my 6 yr old daughter and me...
