@@hobonolen yeh but before people complained about issues that were easily fixable, the difference with ow2 is no matter how good the devs are (even though they are terrible) 5v5 is physically impossible to ever fix and not to mention the game was more fun back in ow1 when we got 0 updates than it is now we get frequent updates. I always keep thinking, who’s more delusional, Pokémon fans or overwatch fans because these two are far above other fan bases in terms of denial. Only blizzard and gamefreak can dish out consistent shit ,after shit, after shit, and people would still defend them to death like the company can never do wrong.
This is why these two franchises never push themselves to make better content because people keep accepting mediocrity and we keep getting the bare minimum effort.
Also Legends Arceus was good but people act like it’s the best game ever made. It probably feels that way because so far every Pokémon main game on the switch has been shit and lackluster in comparison.
And I’m saying this as a Pokémon fan too who’s collected hundreds of cards and have a wall of merch.
Dude said Activision is a "business, not a charity"... Warzone 1 was reportedly making $5.2m PER DAY. That's nearly $2b per year. These idiots who buy cosmetics don't realize how much money companies rake in on a F2P game by selling small cosmetic packs. Because these same idiots will buy 20 cosmetics in a year without thinking about it and they'll end up spending like 3x the cost of a full priced game.
Whales might not make a big percentage of people who play games but their insane and careless spending habits generates ENORMOUS amounts of wealth compared to the rest of the players, that’s why many triple A games are now not only made just for the whales, but also screw over any player who ISNT a whale. But even some players who aren’t full on whales still throw money from time to time and act surprised on why the games are dropping in quality and becoming more predatory.
the more a company grows, the more it turns to shit as greed and cutting corners become the priority instead of having a great product and a great team of productive and passionate people that are paid appropriately
It's not that company growth itself causes this, but company growth attracts the type of executive personalities who eventually bring it all down - because these suits don't care about the product, all they care about is their profits.

Game are also being built differently because of how they make money from them. When they make a game today, they cant give players the best ingame, because the best is what they plan on making money off.
Diablo 4 for example, created bigger towns/world, not to make is feel better, but to open the door for mounts that can be sold.
So to open that door, they had to make the game worse on purpose.
Diablo 3 alpha was also had more customization in skills and gear enchants, but then they had to open the door for console sales, so they made it a 4 button mash game.
Item trading was also changed to auction house, where they were hoping to get real money cut on all sales going on in the game.
I’m so glad you mentioned Pokemon as a franchise. Ever since the Switch games started to come out I’ve refused to buy them. I’m still playing the OG GBA and DS titles. They had some soul and tried new things for a handheld title. Even the GameCube releases were a taste of what the franchise could be if they had a full team behind them and real money to back up its production. You said it, these games print money. I don’t understand how anymore when the games release as buggy barren messes.

2010s? I was playing Blizzard games back in the early 90s. Blizzard is a shell of what it used to be. They won't get another penny from me.

I would absolutely love that pokemon video, btw. One of my all time favorite franchises that arguably dropped the ball harder than overwatch did.
IMO the last good Pokemon game to come out was Black/White 2. The 3DS games were terrible except for the Ruby/Saphire remake. I don’t even count the Switch titles as Pokemon games.
@Drunklotus I agree entirely. X/Y were mediocre and far too easy. ORAS was good. I think S/M had a decent story, but gameplay wise were just okay. USUM literally just took S/M, made the story worse and added legendaries. LGPE were alright I suppose. They had some decent features, but were still too easy. SWSH are the worst rpgs I've ever played. S/V were okay in some areas, but overall also were pretty terrible.
Legends Arceus was flawed but very good.
Pokémon is maybe the most aggregiously bland IP in gaming.
I gave a former friends little brother a Red once. I remember being happy that he got to experience the game just as I did and spend hours of time doing the exact same things, just maybe in a different order. I didn't 100% my Pokedex, but I did catch Mewtwo. That was good enough for me and the game was beaten. All gyms and Mewtwo. So maybe this is hopeful ignorance, though maybe it's not so much that they are not innovating, but giving the generations past us a similar experience as we had. Capturing that experience that we had for them in their own flavor. Take my old Red for example and now there's todays modern Red being Ruby as the only one that I can think of. That is their experience of Red going through the same journey I did, made for their generation. I'm not convinced it's them not innovating rather, giving the next wave the experience we had as kids. Basically I see it as we had our Pokemon games. Our wave is over and done with. The other games are not meant for us. It's for the next wave of eager kids.
For anyone wondering, yes I did wipe the save before giving it to him.
SMT 5 is a good Pokemon alternative, it doesn't have any cute creatures but it has solid gameplay.

Sam, I disagree with you in a sense. Blizzard was always great at taking someone else's idea and creating something casual but deep that was fun.
I have played Warcraft, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Star Craft (legitimately put in over 10k hours as a kid staying up til 3 and waking up at 7 for over a year) World of Warcraft, Diablo 1-3 and Diablo Immortal.
The problem they have now is they don't know how to innovate anymore. They need to listen to the fanbase and dev that crap. They don't need to tow the line but actually hear whats wrong and fix it fundamentally from a developer pov.
The Steve Jobs quote is so apt. I honestly feel like they are the next Bioware.
Making the game an mmo like game would have fleshed it out further than any cinematic or trailer. Being able to do what they were promising in 2019 would have brought the game to new heights but they never had the talent to really pull it off. A game of that size would easily take 600 people and Overwatch was never funded that well.

Games used to be made by people who loved games for people who loved games. Sure, there was soulless games. 23 fishing sims etc. But games had heart. Once the money got big enough that changed. The corporation took over, it stopped being a counter culture and became the culture to be sold to you at a reasonable price🙃. Go play some old games, if you can handle some jank i promise you'll feel the difference. Or, play some indie games. Because the people making those used to be the ones making the triple A games

No, I dont think that quite right. There might be some with some good aspects but This is a systemic problem of capitalism where companys are incentivized to make profit and nothing else. If companies could sell you literal poop, they would.
By the way, these incentives are dictated by law if shares of the company get publicly traded.

The Breath of the wild style Pokémon games are out there. They are just not called Pokémon for copyrights reasons. The most recent and very successful one is Palworld. Its BotW + Pokémon + Minecraft + Fortnite. The Steven He skit of Palworld copying everyone's homework is perfect. :P
Overwatch only came out less than a year before Fortnite and you think they are 2 different generations of gaming??
They are, fortnite was the start of the battle Royale craze and the F2P model which is what we still deal with today. Overwatch is the the last titan of the P2P and loot box model.

After the massive popularity of fortnite every game because F2P with a battle pass and all the most successful games were battle royales; apex, blackout, warzone, etc. It literally created a whole new generation of games where everything was a F2P battle Royale with a battle pass. Before that, the model was P2P with loot boxes; call of duty, overwatch, etc. It's most definitely a different generation of gaming

Extremely controversial opinion: The original devs to Overwatch 1 were mostly pure evil. Genuinely disgusting individuals and the few that were innocent were preyed upon. THAT BEING SAID.....they were leagues better than the current devs. They were more consistent, had better ideas, executed said ideas better, did better marketing, far busier, and never compromised the game for never-ending greed. They were evil, but INFINITELY better than the new dev team. Once the old team got canceled and fired, it's been a absolute travesty ever since

Now they sell the idea that they're virtuous, along with lowering the difficulty and skill ceiling for casuals to make some short-term profits. This lowers the quality of the game by destroying THE GAMES integrity and longevity.
@roseortiz5508 not current team 4 and not all every single blizzard employee was bad. Clearly though, Bobby kotick was a slimeball that covered SA for rep and individuals, who are mostly fired now. The original dev team were involved in that and a very harsh/overtime heavy/overbearing culture that was just bad for everyone. Even McCree's voice actor was involved, changing him to Cassidy. Thing is tho, they made a ridiculously good product. Yes, current team 4 is composed of newer and different devs, but the original team leagues ahead as devs but was morally bankrupt. Former devs who weren't involved in the toxic culture but were victims of it have spoken on it after they split.
Jeff is good at making games and terrible at maintaining them. I dont miss him. Ow1 balance, ow1 business model that eventually brought us ow2, ow2 conception and what left of it is all the result of his work as overwatch director.

Lack of competition stagnates franchises. Pokemon and Overwatch are a good example of that, hopefully that Marvel Rivals game is going to help.
pokemon is the most stagnant franchise ive ever seen. no new meaningful innovations, no attempts to optimize the new games they make for performance on their MAIN console, new pokemon just breaking the game even more for those who enjoy the competitive side. sad to see another beloved franchise ruined by greed and incompetence.

Honestly i think over the last week a lot of players have left overwatch 2 and gaven up on the developers giving us a real match maker that does not rig games or favour bad players and they have given up on wait for blizzard to balance the game properly. Everything went bad when they made the game 5v5 and put in the hitbox buff for dps and dps passive.
Why does blizzars hate their player base more than hitler hated the jews?

I play competitive pokemon so I never really paid attention to the effort put into the games themselves - only the new mons added.
Would be interesting to see Sam make a video on that aspect of the franchise. It feels like the games have just become a necessary evil for Nintendo and game freak so that they're able to market all the new Pokémon merch and product afterwards
I do have hope for legends ZA considering how the first legends game went as well as the free layup that is the unfinished kalos lore - also - mega evolutions are coming back which is always gonna be amazing

Its such a shame. I started ow last year and really wanted to be competitive but with all the changes it just is not enough motivation anymore. Its sad as a veteran quake player i really like fast paced action in ow, and since quake champions died i was looking for something new and found overwatch. But now this game seems to be also dying 😢

I’m tired of seeing amazing games release. And then just slowly die because of the devs balance choices. also the move to 5v5 was wild. And the wasted time on pve was INSANE. at this point I’d almost rather them just scrap pvp and go make the pve game instead. Because it’s just terrible. Haven’t played the pst two seasons now.
Old wow is still one of the best games ever released, and modern wow is still the best generic everything mmo ever.

Just bring back 6v6 competitive but make it new rank reset have it be 2-2-2 and make it a battle pass only option. Blizzard will get more money and people will get what they want. Pretty simple solution IMO, I don't have the battle pass but would buy it to play 6v6 ranked.

1:00 I hate to say it though man, don’t fix what isn’t broken. People love the “build a team and fight” kind of game genre, and this one appeals to all ages. Not saying Pokemon is perfect because they make plenty of dogshit decisions, but they don’t want to change up their format to lose their player base….see what I did there?
1:03 Funnily enough there is a BotW style Pokemon game out there, it's just not a Pokemon game. It's a Minecraft mod called Cobblemon, which honestly provides a more fun, polished, and immersive experience than anything GameFreak has put out since Legend's Arceus.

Pokémon used to be so good before they made all the competitive aspects to it so easy to have access to. Growing up we didn’t even know what IV and EV’s were and now you’re just shown it in a easy to read chart lol you hate to see it

@@Glizzyman because now all you have to do is eat feathers and proteins and you have max attack whereas before you had to not only grind for it but also breed the proper ivs to get it. then you include the fact that all you need is a bottlecap that gives any Pokémon max iv in a stat lol what is the whole point of getting gym badges? to "be the best trainer" right? the fact that you say its fan base is mostly casuals is true but it is also the downfall of pokemon because the die hard fan base cared about the story whether they were the shiny catchers or competitive players and everyone in the pokemon world knows that when they realized that they can get away with only caring about the casuals who dont give a crap about anything except catching a pikachu, they stopped working on making the story good. @samito literally said 2010's were the last good pokemon games in this video. They were the least selling games in the entire franchise because it was the last games made that not only had a great story but also made you compete throughout the game. the elite four and champion in the game had competitive pokemon both in ev and Ivs and you didnt know back then what you had unless you purposely built them that way so again, it is bad because its too easy hence why no one cares to play it anymore
@@shotbyjona I agree with your second point about the story and such however that wasn't what I was discussing at all in the slightest. Competitive being easier to get into is a good thing, it took over 40 hours in old games to get a full max out team like hello? And that's with some exploits, actually basically all exploits so I don't see what the bad thing about it is. Lowers the skill floor so more people can play competitive but the skill ceiling is still the same, extremely high. The story for Pokemon game now are bad yes and sure you CAN get a max out pokemon for the elite 4 but who is doing it?. That's a option you could do if you want to be sweaty but most people don't do it because it's not needed with how easy pokemon games are now, your problem is that people can now spend only a few hours getting a max out team IF they want instead of just making the actual gym leaders harder instead, you got the opposite problem.
@@shotbyjona bro you lost the plot. Making comp easier was not the reason why the new Pokemon games sucked. It’s the lack of soul and ingenuity. It’s the lack of trying to push the franchise in a direction it hasn’t gone before while maintaining what made them great games in the first place. All of the new Pokemon games are just a bland reselling of the old formula. It’s a game for kids so making certain things easy to understand is honestly a great decision. There’s a balance that a lot of new kids movies strike where they appeal to kids but they also have appeal to adults because adults can see the layers that make up the appeal to kids. Pokemon hasn’t done this literally since Black/White 2. And in those games it was easier to train Pokemon than past titles, it was easy to see what stats your Pokémon’s nature effected. Those are quality of life improvements, they’re fine to have. The newer games went a little too far IMO by making EXP shared among all party members always. It made decisions on party members a little less impactful. So there is a fine line to be drawn for sure. But making things less obtuse and more accessible to players isn’t what makes them bad or bland. Especially since most of the player base doesn’t know or care about those things anyway
