Thank you for your great video. As your mower is in great condition obviously while mine is not, I had a hard time to get the nut off the motor shaft. That happened because it was not easy to get it loose and while I was working on it the blade was sliding down on the shaft and started to turn with the nut I was trying to lose. While watching your vlog it dawned on me that pushing the blade up against the motor might help and it did. Thank you for enlightening me.

I've had a 30" unit for about three years and I find that just removing the whole deck is pretty easy. Three locking pins, and then two electrical connections to get if off, and reverse order when it goes back on. Then I put it up on the bench. The key thing I use for blade changes is a piece of 2x4 with two 1/2" small holes in the end that sit ovever the bolts in the motor and a slot the the blade fits into. The one hole is used to take it off and the other to put it on. I do this every month as I need to check the blades, clean the deck, and blow out any grass in the motors. :)

I just lifted the front up on mine and let it rest on the rear end worked fine no jack needed and easy to get to the blades that way. My nuts didn’t come off as easy as yours had to use a breaker bar and a wooden block. Also my blades would only go on one way as the slots in the blade will only allow it to go on the right way

First time having the blades off? Maybe they get seized over time. I believe mine had less than 40 hours when I changed them if I recall correctly.

@@beaterboxgarage mine has 23 hours on it and is about 2 years old . Yes first time changing blades. The mower quit charging so I put a negative review on Ryobis site and they sent a tech out and he replaced the charging port and all four batteries for free even though the batteries only have a one year warranty. Been a good mower but replacing the batteries every two years kind of sucks especially since next time I am sure I will have to pay the $700 plus from Home Depot and change them myself

@@norman2962 yeah I hear ya. I do enjoy the electric mower but I would much rather prefer having the new lithium pack version that you can pull the batteries out and charge separately. Makes way more sense especially for winter storage being able to put the batteries inside out of the weather.

I hope that was $25 total for blades and not apiece. I just paid $9 each for mine.

Be careful using your hand to prevent the blade from turning while you loosen or tighten it. You can either wrap a thick towel around it a few times to hold it or, better yet, use a screwdriver inserted into one of the holes near the center of the shaft to prevent it from spinning.

Could we take off the mower deck & ride it into WalMart? Or to the fair?
Thru a park? Down the sidewalk downtown? Its quiet. Its slow. How
would it differ from a mobility scooter?

      Worth a shot

You'll get about an hour of ride time. Take that into account and you're golden. Not nearly as good as a golf cart, though. Only has 4-30Ah batteries.

Hi could you please show the wire hook up on the back and forward switch? I installed a new switch but forgot how they were connected. Ryobi can’t help me either. Thank you so much

This would be much easier to just take the deck off

8:57 Sounds like you might need some axle grease or WD-40 on that suspension. LOL.

Sure did. I hit it with just that not long after the video came out. Sprayed everything but I believe it was the steering linkage.

@@beaterboxgarage 👍 I should probably spray mine soon as well. One thing I and many others forget to do is to periodically check the tire pressure on the Ryobi. Back tires should be 28 psi and the fronts should be 30 psi. Too low and the motors and battery have to work a lot harder to move forward, putting additional wear on them. I'd say maybe once a month or so.

Two questions. One where is the video you described about getting this mower for free? Two, I am getting one of these mowers soon, as I understand the deck comes off. Couple of cotterpins and a single cord to unplug. Wouldn't that be easier and safer?

    • @beaterboxgarage
      @beaterboxgarage  Рік тому

I find it easier to just car jack the mower up vs unplugging motors and dropping the deck. Once a year is all I lift it so it’s not too big of a deal. The video is on my page “detailed replacing mower batteries”

I wanted to say why I didn’t like this video. You took a dangerous short cut with your safety. No jack stands, no changing the blades. I spend a lot of effort and conversation making sure safety is followed. People follow what they see, not so much what they hear…

Thanks for your input. I just don’t see the need for jack stands on a lawn mower. If this was a 4000 lb car then sure. But people should use jack stands if their body is under it? sure. Everyone must take safety into their own hands, I just grew up different.
