Some other things I should have mentioned in this video are: -All grocery stores/stores in general are closed on Sundays (Except for a couple grocery stores in the train station) Because of this on Saturday evenings you can get really good deals on food that has been discounted before closing. -The chocolate here is REALLY good (even the cheap stuff) and in general it is very affordable. -Food goes bad extremely fast (even things in jars)-you really have to go grocery shopping every 1-2 days. -Our digestion/stomachs feel better while eating here. I honestly don’t think one thing ever has caused me to feel bloated. -The grocery stores don’t sell everything year round like in North America (eg. Fresh turmeric) Only what is in season. I feel this makes you eat a healthier variety of foods and food rotation is better for your overall health. -The grocery store cashiers should be in the Olympics for their speed-You have to pack your groceries extremely FAST 😂 I typically use the self check out when I can if I’m alone so I don’t hold up the line. -They bundle items in packages of 3 a lot of the time for discounts (Eg. 3 jars of pasta sauce) to move product quickly out of the store. -On Saturdays sometimes the stores will be empty of produce at the end of the day. They really make sure to move the product out of the store quickly and not waste food. -I like that they will package food together (various random vegetables) at a discounted rate for you to make soup to not waste random odds and ends of products. In general, they have very minimal waste compared to what I have seen in Canada and I really appreciate that.
Then to CocaCola (a world brand): There were two CocaCola factories in Switzerland! But this was too expensive. Today there is only one. And here's a fun fact. Apparently the water in Switzerland was made worse so that it had the world's CocaCola quality. Since I found out this, I no longer drink CocaCola. The "swiss" Cocacola had a "swiss cross". P.S. Valser-Water is today a brand from Coca Cola. Der Werbespruch (deutsch) ist/war: "Alles wird besser. Valser bleibt gut!" (Everything is getting better. Valser stays good!)😉
Yes, first of all, food is more expensive in Switzerland, but the quality is usually good, especially when it comes to meat (Animal welfare). But Switzerland is also a landlocked country, does not apply to sea fish and seafood (hands off). P.S. in Switzerland and France you can eat horse meat. I only eat this when eating "Fondue Chinoise" (at Christmas).
Yes, I have seen horse meat in the grocery store. Overall, I do miss certain items from Canada but the quality of food here is much better (how I remember food tasting when I was young) and we don't find the food that much more expensive compared to Toronto. Household goods are definitely more pricey but we just stock up when there are sales. Eating out at restaurants is something we rarely do though because I find it insanely expensive and I like to cook.
Decaf is still bad for the kidneys, nervous system, gut It’s also dehydrating, meaning for each cup of coffee you’d need to drink 2-3 of water to balance it out It takes 24h to fully process the caffeine through the kidneys There’s actually a method called Swiss decaf method that does get rid of the caffeine in the coffee rather than cutting it with alcohols Coffee is also very prone to mould I don’t drink it regularly anymore, just as a treat And obviously there are benefits to caffeine to, but it’s still an alkaloid My boyfriend has 1 cup everyday, so we like to get our organic coffee beans from a good roaster (we’ve been buying from one in Spain for few years now after having tried many hipster different ones 😂) Like if it’s something we’re going to have regularly I believe is better to get organic, if possible Loved this video! I'm not too adventurous when it comes to cheeses. I was very sad to learn that fondue here smells really bad :( I should try some new ones though this year. You would love it here if you like 🧀 though-so many options and fairly cheap compared to North America.
I think instead you should try raclette, which is also a typical Swiss dish It’s quite the treat and I find it less overwhelming, even though it’s actually fairly similar

The quality of the food in Switzerland is way better than in the US.
Same compared to Canada. Some fruit I would buy there just never ripened even after weeks and here it starts to go bad in 2-3 days.
