With great respect to Boris Hermann (and you), he did not skipper Malizia all the way around in the last OR due to his injury. Will Harris skippered 2 legs. I believe Paul Meilhat on Biotherm was the only skipper to complete all the legs.
@ if it makes you feel any better, I had included Benjamin Dutreux at first too. I had to put my way-back cap on to remember what happened to Guyot. Ditto Sam Goodchild as crew on Holcim-PRB. Only ended a little over a year ago and it already seems like ancient times. Thanks again for doing all the hard work making these excellent episodes!
Reliability matched with skippers nav choices and their ability/bravery to keep pushing harder when others throttle back is going to decide it, which means that it is wonderfully open - Oh and lots of Luck…. 👍😀 I just have my favourite skippers in Boris and Pip so want to see them do well, and feel Dalin would be a worthy winner after last time….
Fantastic breakdown on the various IMOCAs and their skippers in the 2024 VG. If the forecast holds, that potential storm could be serious and difficult for anyone to sail through. I hope no one suffers any damages or setbacks, especially that early in the race. With so many great yachts and skippers, it's very hard to pick a favorite. If I had to choose a likely winner, I'd probably say Charlie Dalin. His ability goes without saying but he also has a cutting-edge yacht and is currently the hands-down favorite. Also, Charal with its eccentric rudder system has an advantage when foiling. Although I could be wrong, I don't think there's another yacht that foils as well. The videos I've seen of Charal show it barely indistinguishable from a full foiler in ideal conditions. Jérémie Beyou is also a very good sailor and I was amazed at what he did in the last edition despite the incident he suffered. The skippers that sailed in the Ocean race will definitely have an advantage. It will be very interesting to see how the competition stacks up after a few weeks.
Welcome home!! Great yesterday and the shorts fun too.. great video Intro! Audio whistle was a mute but everything else is baaaaack! Special safety prayers for all ❤️
Great to see you again! Pls think about a micro in the studio! It's hard to understand in low volume! Thx for your work anyway, looking forward to a great race! Nikolaus, Vienna
Well done, another excellent overview! Your weather map - PredictWind or Windy? Will follow along with either…thanks, need to order a mug to Florida! Andrew
Thanks for the video! What impact do you think the on board starlinks are going to have? Hopefully we are going to get more real-time content. Especially the southern ocean.
I've nev'er Sean Malizia dew a dive like that, that's a'a shattering subject, that was a wicked slapping on the Water I've Sea'n, almost like becoming in hooked In'na Cup boat. I like your weather Ball 🌎 soccer?
It would be truly inspiring to see Jean Le Cam triumph in this edition of the race with his no-foils boat. Jean Le Cam embodies the spirit of classic, pure sailing-a true Romantic sailor who stands out in an era dominated by advanced foiling technology. His approach harkens back to a time when seamanship, strategic decision-making, and sheer human resilience were the defining factors in achieving victory. Jean Le Cam’s participation is more than just another entry; it is a reminder of the power of traditional sailing methods. While many of his competitors rely on the speed and sophistication of foil-assisted boats, Le Cam opts for a simpler, more conventional design. This choice reflects not only his vast experience and deep understanding of the sea but also his belief in the reliability and straightforward nature of no-foils yachts. In the modern landscape of sailing, where technological innovations often take center stage, Le Cam's journey represents a romantic nod to the heritage of ocean racing. His decision to compete with a no-foils boat is a testament to the enduring value of skill, intuition, and a profound connection with the ocean. This choice captures the imagination of sailing enthusiasts around the world who yearn for stories of resilience and mastery that transcend the latest engineering trends. A victory by Jean Le Cam would be more than just a win; it would symbolize the triumph of experience, wisdom, and the timeless principles of sailing. It would highlight that in a sport increasingly defined by technology, there remains room for sailors who value tradition and the raw, unfiltered challenge of the open sea. To see him succeed would be a celebration of the very essence of sailing-where courage, tenacity, and a deep-rooted love for the adventure still hold the power to conquer the elements.
What are you talking about? AI prompts?… That’s an overly simplistic view, all about money…In fact, Le Cam’s decision wasn’t just about the cost. He’s known for prioritizing reliability and simplicity over cutting-edge technology that might increase risks, especially in challenging ocean conditions. Foils add speed but also complexity, and Le Cam’s approach focuses on a more controlled, hands-on style of navigation. His experience shows that a well-balanced, foil-free boat can still be highly competitive.
I predict the boats will encounter a severe storm at some point that wipes all the foils out of the race and Le Cam sails to victory after rescuing all the other competitors. I think Le Cam is genius to be conservative. Anyone here ever win a race by being the only boat in the fleet to not set a spinnaker at the windward mark? It happens. Ask me how I know. Boats can be designed to sail incredibly fast. And conditions make or break the design limits.
lot of BS, put a lil water into you whiskey, Hermann, Davies and Bestaven aren't going to top this one, last VG was slow and very damaged, this year the win will be around 4 dudes, Dalin Richomme, Beyou (the best sailor) and Ruyan without damages on boats
We have missed you and your great show. Glad you are back! Vende without you is hard to imagine!
So good to see you back! Thanks for helping me get through the pandemic version in 2020!
Thank you 2. would have been much harder without all of you!

Better audio (less echo) would be perfect 👍. Very interesting summary thank you!

It was cool to see Medalia in real, and Hublot+Occitane in VR mode.
Almost seamless transition. Very neat editing.

Thanks for the video!
What impact do you think the on board starlinks are going to have?
Hopefully we are going to get more real-time content. Especially the southern ocean.
its just good for connecting and uploading media
Hope you cover the non-foiling boats, I’d like to see the performance difference quantified.
fir sure we cover all boats
Here we are again!
And so it begins....
Thanks for a cool video! Just a tiny technical note: isn't the route rather 45000 kilometers long?
Wasn`t Jeremie B issue with the boat last time, that the backstage were ripped out of deck. Which forced him to go back and repair..
Welcome back! I'd highly recommend you invest in a decent podcast mic :)
Agree!!
we will get there :)

Hi, SW
just put the name on screen for people what you interviewed. Thanks.

What an annoying AI c/p. LeCam simply could not afford a foiler. Go back and use some sensible prompts.

hehe LOve it!
Dang !,if these boats get any faster we may have to apply for a bigger planet....
Sea Wolves!
:)
@18:35 Wrong, Paul Meilhat is there too and is the only skipper to have sailed the whole OR.
I predict the boats will encounter a severe storm at some point that wipes all the foils out of the race and Le Cam sails to victory after rescuing all the other competitors.

30kt from the back is no big storm…

race is not 45K miles 🤣 (@ 2:50'). it is a cute program but lots of these information aren't correct.
Would you mind removing the "music", please?
Many thanks.
