@Blinny19 it's an interesting conversation about "moving further away from Bergeron/Chara" ... I would argue that the McAvoy and Pastrnak deals helped set the precedent for Jeremy's ask to be what it was. Neither of those players went to arbitration because the organization valued them off the bat. Meanwhile, Jeremy is given a low ball offer last offseason, making arbitration the preferable option, then uses that negotiation process as motivation for one of the best playoff performances in team history. Can't hate that! All this drama would have been moot if Sweeney had made a legit bridge deal offer last offseason instead of lowballing Swayman (a core member of the team's future) and prioritizing signings like JVR and Jesper Boqvist (very obviously not the team's future). Now that he came back saying "hey actually, we do value you as a key member of this team's future," Swayman can point to Pasta and McAvoy and say "they didn't have to deal with this nonsense that you made me deal with, and you paid full price for both of them. You're a fool if you think I'm taking a discount." Good for him, and good for us. The Bruins have their franchise goaltender locked up at a number that will look better and better as the years go by. I am stoked to keep rooting for this team with him in net. GO B'S!!!
8.25 million dollars lmfao 😂 man really needed the extra 250k. After all he is “fighting for his family” and they truly needed more money when making millions a year
It's not as bad as it looks. Take a look at the payout schedule... "NHL funny money" $8.25 is the average aav over 8 years First two years he's getting $6 million + $4 million signing bonuses Which he's not worth BUT Bruins retain total control of his contract for those first two years, the third year his no trade clause kicks in. And his payouts decrease So if he's not living up to the 10 mil the first 2 seasons, another team doesn't have to pay that for us to trade him. He doesn't become dead weight. The philosophical differences were far more important than dollar amount. It's very clever - Jeremy can go around bragging that he "re-set the market on goalies" making $10 million per year, as a top paid goalie - yet he can only say that for 2 years. the Bruins can pull some last-minute tricks of the trade in 2 years, he's signing in october, two days before regular season. They could screw up his 2026-27 season by deciding to trade him at the last minute! And they've got the entire training camp to look at their other goalies to decide Lol! He'd better produce. They have to ride the fence here -they may still have to coddle his stats to keep his value up. Joonas is likely going to fulfill Linus's role taking on Western US & Canadian teams in their houses - Jeremy doesn't do that. I think he beat Oilers in Edmonton. I don't think he's beat McKinnon and his friends... May not have even met him yet Otherwise Linus took on the heavy load out west That's why Jeremy's stats look so good. They should be. He doesn't take on top teams with full rosters. He won against Vegas in Boston when neither stone nor eichel were playing 🤔 Jeremy may have sold his soul to the devil. Yes he's getting 10 million over the next 2 years, but Bruins maintain control of him in the prime of his career. As a matter of fact, Sweeney could be putting him on a plane tonight, and he ends up in Los Angeles, not Sunrise Florida, playing for the Kings by tomorrow lol! Very unlikely but that would be funny! That's how much control they have. So his contract is literally - produce or get off Bruins ice Jeremy! ✌️
I guess we've been spoiled with the class of Patrice bergeron the last two decades... Comparing himself to the late great Johnny Gaudreau? 🙄 That's a tactless way to deflect away from reporters' serious questions. Tell us all about the next Economics 102 business class he might be taking ? 😆 Now if he could just rebound that well... It'll be good! But please leave Johnny and Matt Gaudreau out of this. Go B's 🙄 🐻(That's a bear rolling its eyeballs)
It's amazing how with the cap going up over the years, the market for goalies has gone down. Vezina caliber goalies in the past 7-8 years would get $10M/year! Price, Bob, Vasilevskiy.
Thrown under the bus with the "yesterday I had cap space, today I don't and have tough choices to make" comment. And Swayman's comment "we know the truth". Not a lot of love there.
This whole episode has left a bad taste in my mouth. Swayman went from being my favorite Bruin to my least favorite Bruin. 4th-highest paid active goalie for a guy who hasn't led his team to a championship yet. Remember, it's the income from the tickets and merchandise fans purchase that is paying his salary, so the city and fans he says gave him incredible support will be holding his feet to the fire he doesn't play like an all star every single game. This is yet another example of how players say they play for the fans, but the reality is they play for the money and nothing more.
You live in a bubble if you think any player plays for the fans and not the money. Blame Sweeney for trading Ullmark before a deal was in place and giving Swayman all this leverage to begin with. One of the dumbest moves a GM has ever made.
We'll see what happens this initial year, but as far as I'm concerned if he plays 60 games and has comparable stats, then its a win. Montreal paid Carey Price 10.5M AAV to never win a cup, and if the cap goes up in the next couple of years, 8.25M AAV will be considered a steal.
all i know is last year the Bs had the best goaltending duo in the league for 8.4 M, but they decided they needed to pay less money to the goaltender's position. sweeney traded away a vezina trophy winner for a " hit or miss " draft pick who won't be ready for several years, if ever. ( his latest first round flop, lysell, didn't make it past the first cuts and he's back in the minors for his fourth year of pro development ) he got a reject backup goalie that a team in the cellar didn't want and a stiff who scored 12 goals in two complete seasons. this year they will be paying their goalies over 11 M, which is around 3 M more than the figure from last year they wanted to cut. i don't see why sweeney is taking a victory lap for shooting himself in both feet with both barrels.
@@casmatt99”Fighting for your family” LMFAO 😂 you acting like a guy making millions a year playing a game needs more money it went from 6.7 to 8, and now 8.25 ohhhh yeah that man truly needed an extra 250k for his family lmfao 😂
The last couple years proved you don’t need a number one goalie to win. They’ve had some of the best goaltending in the league. The last couple years they haven’t won This guy is done nothing played 44 games last year can’t get out of the first round. Typical Bruins fall in love with the player and overpay. Should have sent him packing. Any better play 65 games this year you wanna be the big man OK there you go
If his contract is the reason they can’t bring ppl in at the deadline or keep someone key to the lineup, then the blame will fall on entirely on him. As it should.
@MsSassyBlondie Sweeney didn't need to pay Elias Lindholm close to $8m per year, nor did he need to pay Nikita Zadorov $5m per year. The blame will always fall on the GM.
A good agent took advantage of a GM who completely misplayed the entire situation. This doesn't change the goalie market because this was a unique situation. There are some GMs that would have let Swayman sit on his couch all season, and I personally would have enjoyed that outcome.
This whole process took a lot out of us fans, a whole lot out of Sweeney, and a whole lot out of Swayman, but we're here and ready for the regular season and what better be a deep run right through to a Stanley Cup! A lot of us lost faith, but now let's restore that faith in The Black And Gold. LET'S F*CKING GO BRUINS!
66M$ haha, now let's make a quiz. Who was lying about the offer prior to the signing? Was it A) Cam Neely saying Sway has 64 mil. reasons to sign? Or was it B) Swayman's agent Lewis Gross with his statement that 64M$ offer was never on the table? And now suddenly we have 66? Difficult, I know.
It will definitely help the team, but one has to be realistic. Boston is not an adept at nake big placement, although I would like to be mistaken. But there is still a big gap at the center position. Sved won't be enough for this
I can’t believe they caved. I can’t believe they caved!!!!!! 8 years!!!!!!!! This is a horrible signing. As a Bs fan since the 70s, im speechless. Goal tending has never been an issue for this organization. It’s been up front talent. Once again…. ITS BEEN UP FRONT TALENT. Im disgusted.
And how were they going to lock up Swayman before trading Ullmark? That would have been 2 million less to spend on Swayman or free agency. Plus if they didn't do it when they did Ullmark would have had a new list for his No Trade and any trade candidates may have addressed goalie situation in FA.
Sweeney dodging questions and whining about this discounted cap hit even though he should have paid at least 9 mil a year for Swayman. Guess those Carey Price and Bobrovsky contracts from 5 years ago worth 2+ more mil a year mean nothing. Way to go Sway; cave to the bullies in mgmt with Boston.
It was a long summer with lots of drama. Things got stressful, things got a little nasty at points, but all is forgiven. We love you Sway, super happy to have you here long term. LFG!!!!!

You're a fool if you think I'm taking a discount."
Good for him, and good for us. The Bruins have their franchise goaltender locked up at a number that will look better and better as the years go by. I am stoked to keep rooting for this team with him in net.
GO B'S!!!
Oh no. He’s diminished in my eyes. I will be his worst critic if he does not deliver.
8.25 million dollars lmfao 😂 man really needed the extra 250k. After all he is “fighting for his family” and they truly needed more money when making millions a year
It's not as bad as it looks.
Take a look at the payout schedule... "NHL funny money"
$8.25 is the average aav over 8 years
First two years he's getting $6 million + $4 million signing bonuses
Which he's not worth
BUT Bruins retain total control of his contract for those first two years, the third year his no trade clause kicks in.
And his payouts decrease
So if he's not living up to the 10 mil the first 2 seasons, another team doesn't have to pay that for us to trade him.
And they've got the entire training camp to look at their other goalies to decide
Lol!
May not have even met him yet
Otherwise Linus took on the heavy load out west
That's why Jeremy's stats look so good. They should be.
He doesn't take on top teams with full rosters. He won against Vegas in Boston when neither stone nor eichel were playing
🤔
Jeremy may have sold his soul to the devil.
✌️
He is from taxachusetts. That 250 disappears when those cucks come knocking.
I guess we've been spoiled with the class of Patrice bergeron the last two decades...
Comparing himself to the late great Johnny Gaudreau?
🙄
That's a tactless way to deflect away from reporters' serious questions.
Tell us all about the next Economics 102 business class he might be taking ?
😆
Now if he could just rebound that well...
It'll be good!
But please leave Johnny and Matt Gaudreau out of this.
Go B's
🙄 🐻(That's a bear rolling its eyeballs)
Disgusting opening statement. He is such a bull-shitter.
@@Leroy-df3ee now we know what Linus had to put up with behind the scenes. Maybe he is happier in Ottawa! 😆
Sway is an absolute beast!!!!!! Love him!
He's Proved he's NOT a "Bruin" !
Glad he signed but that sudden tribute for Gaudreau seems…forced
It's called manipulation.
@@oliverquach9614 bullshit.
Shows respect right off the bat
Anyone else notice Swayman doesn’t have any Bruin logo on his clothing or a Bruin cap ?
Anyone here him whisper fuck before he started talking
Had to listen to it a few times but yes that sounds just like what he said. 🤣
Guy had half a decent season and he’s paid like a top five goalie in the league, pathetic should’ve traded him
@@pjp7259 would've had to pay ullmark big too if it was him that stayed and hes shown he can't play a full season and shaky in playoffs
He has never played a full season. Good luck with that.
Thankf for making me after 45 years finding a new team. Disgusting
all i know is last year the Bs had the best goaltending duo in the league for 8.4 M, but they decided they needed to pay less money to the goaltender's position. sweeney traded away a vezina trophy winner for a " hit or miss " draft pick who won't be ready for several years, if ever.
Swayman better not let a single goal in with that contract
Thanks for the cap trouble.
@@RyanRussell-h6m you make it sound like you're paying his salary. Stfu you pink hat
@@casmatt99”Fighting for your family” LMFAO 😂 you acting like a guy making millions a year playing a game needs more money it went from 6.7 to 8, and now 8.25 ohhhh yeah that man truly needed an extra 250k for his family lmfao 😂
Every goal allowed should be reviewable…
The last couple years proved you don’t need a number one goalie to win. They’ve had some of the best goaltending in the league. The last couple years they haven’t won
This guy is done nothing played 44 games last year can’t get out of the first round. Typical Bruins fall in love with the player and overpay. Should have sent him packing. Any better play 65 games this year you wanna be the big man OK there you go
There will be salary cap casualties from his…who’s gonna go?
Thank you, Sway! 🐻🖤💛
Great goalie but will be a tough ask for the Bruins to even make the playoffs.
@@JambiPot Both fair market deals for their resumes. Swayman’s resume does not justify this ask.
Of course I want him to be elite, but he is gonna have to be lights out and prove it after this nonsense.
@@MsSassyBlondie wrong..falls on management
Just like the ending of 'Saving Private Ryan ', Swayman, "earn it". BTW, Jeremy, we share birthdays: 11/24
The Bruins buckled. Swayman won this. Now trade him. Preferably to Toronto!
Ah, no thank you... we have enough overpaid guys.
So happy he’s a Bruin!!!!
Congrats Jeremy!!!
A good agent took advantage of a GM who completely misplayed the entire situation. This doesn't change the goalie market because this was a unique situation. There are some GMs that would have let Swayman sit on his couch all season, and I personally would have enjoyed that outcome.
Toooooooo much
Hope the team never has to deal with agent LG.
Greedy money grab by an undeserving player and his even greedier agent.
Big win for goalies today, watching all these egos handle it professionally is one of the most fascinating moments in sports.

This should be the end of Sweeneys career …he botched this from the beginning…now overpaid for 8 years
This can be the worst deal at the history. Swayman is not worth of that
We know the truth…Cam must be seething
Lmao Sweeney is pissed, swayman is a way bigger nerd than I thought lol
So happy he staying 🎉🎉💛🖤
It will definitely help the team, but one has to be realistic. Boston is not an adept at nake big placement, although I would like to be mistaken. But there is still a big gap at the center position. Sved won't be enough for this
My shit dosent smell
Stanley Cup incoming. Go B’s!!! 🏆🐻
85% chance he's being traded by the bruins within the next 3yrs. Not enough games under his belt to be signing this contract.
Nice work Neely and Sweeney. Happy Sway is here to stay.
All of this could have been avoided if they had locked up Sway BEFORE trading Linus. It’s called “leverage”. 🙄
And how were they going to lock up Swayman before trading Ullmark? That would have been 2 million less to spend on Swayman or free agency. Plus if they didn't do it when they did Ullmark would have had a new list for his No Trade and any trade candidates may have addressed goalie situation in FA.
Say you don’t understand that trade had to happen before they could even consider giving him this ridiculous contract without saying it.
@@davidcaunter5346 true, but the other side of the coin is that ullmarks value drops considerably
Narcissist. No one was rooting for you to get an extra 250k a year. Selfish person
Oh boo hoo, it’s 250k lol
Sweeney dodging questions and whining about this discounted cap hit even though he should have paid at least 9 mil a year for Swayman. Guess those Carey Price and Bobrovsky contracts from 5 years ago worth 2+ more mil a year mean nothing. Way to go Sway; cave to the bullies in mgmt with Boston.
8.25m per year would give me goosebumps too...now lets win!
