Hi! I'm going to be an owner of rough collie in a few months, but I live in an apartment, is it really moderate active dog like they say it on the Internet ? How much exercise do they need daily? I've been considering also other breeds but I'm in love with Collies, even so I cannot imagine that I couldn't provide my Collie all she needs.
A good walk twice daily and regular trips outside for toileting. Tje level of stimulation is just as important as distance as the enjoy sniffing and they are generally friendly towards other dogs if socialised as a pup. They easily take to games of fetch and will initiate play with you. You should not over exercise a puppy but an adolescent or adult dog will quite happily follow you around on a long hike all day.. they are a herding breed so have a lot of stamina and they are smart, but more sensitive than a border collie. They do bark. I think they think it's a sport. They make great sentinel dogs. They will not enjoy being alone for long periods, nor only let out for toilet... they need the stimulation of exercise and play and human interaction. Once exercised well and fed they will lounge around and sleep and be settled for hours at a time.
We have a Samoyed and are looking for a companion for him and love the rough collie breed, they seem a perfect match in personality, stamina for walks and grooming needs but our neighbour has already commented on our Samoyeds barks (he is chatty) we had thought maybe a friend would keep him occupied when we go out to stop any barking when we do need to leave but now I'm worried they may both be barking and it would really upset my neighbour 😔 urgh it hurts my heart to think we won't be able to have one join our family.

I really want a collie but I work a full time job. I got my first collie when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.
That's plenty of exercise. The time he spends alone is the main concern especially as a puppy. Ideally he's not left alone for more than an hour or so. If he has a companion, when older, leaving for longer, say 4 hours, is okay and it sounds like you planned for this.

I get the basic idea... you can search for Rough Collie Breeder in your area/country or you can try and adopt a rescue. Be prepared to wait a while as puppies are not easy to get and they are expensive usually.

Looked up breeder..UK...crap...was hoping USA..
@@marjoriejohnson6535 i replied to this already but don't know why it isn't here. You do realise that coopers mother is a Barksdale bitch? You say UK crap but there are a lot of breeders in the UK with some very nice American dogs or have dogs that have American blood direct in their pedigree. Wicani Gemheid Strobroy Stregato Imaginist to name some. These breeders have good quality dogs spent a lot of money for these dogs. So not all UK is crap x
I ment crap,, ,it is from the U.K. not USA. getting a dog from overseas makes them very expensive...some of the best collies I have seen in person and on UA-cam are from europe..UK And Scotland.

I get the basic idea... you can search for Rough Collie Breeder in your area/country or you can try and adopt a rescue. Be prepared to wait a while as puppies are not easy to get and they are expensive usually.
@@richwhilecooper thank you mr. Richard for responding back to me you made me very happy to know someone out there do care I've been looking a long time for me a puppy Ray's I really don't care what kind it is I just want a dog to love because I have a health problem dealing with rheumatoid arthritis I thought the Rock and scoliosis makes it hard for me to get around and enjoy life the the way I was out to in yard so I feel like that will come for me I have a love shawawa but she is lonely name is Sheila and I'm trying to find a companion for the both of us
A more mature rescue dog and maybe a less active breed that requres less exercise... maybe a smaller doggie. They will be excellent companions. I wish you luck. A dog really is a gift.
