Bro i thought it was Frosting and was like NOOO WHY DID U WASTE FROSTING and when it said " 100% acrylic " i remembered something called A title Was a thing
My mom always painted with the heavy acrylics. I say painted, but it was a mixture of using brushes and little scrapers, but the end effect was *SO* cool! She'd make a scene with trees and an ocean off the side of a cliff look absolutely alive and like it was coming off the canvas at you to pull you in. I swear I'd get pulled into those paintings and live in them while I daydreamed, and in my night time dreams as well. I loved running my hands over the dried paintings to feel the texture of it and memorized the way it felt. I could tell you which painting it was just by the feel of it!
@@Vynthos Online, no, unfortunately. I'd have to go back to the house in Washington and dig through her closets to see if I can find them, and then take some pictures and upload them, because she wouldn't do it herself. My dad beat the enthusiasm out of her a long time ago, and she hasn't painted since, buuut... he's dead, so maybe I can convince her to start painting again. It'll be good for her, especially while she's going through her maintenance chemo and while her femur is healing (apparently she fell a couple days ago, I was alerted by my brother who just left on a trip to Europe with his family for work, computer something or other). That woman is a menace into herself! Lol!
@@Vynthos Sorry for being so frank about my dad, but I made a promise that I wouldn't cover for his ass anymore. People (who just met him not knew him, knew him) actually thought he was a nice guy, lol! Yes, with all her experiences, I'd love to see what she can come up with, now!
Makes me think of my grandma ❤ In the 70s my grandma used really heavy acrylic for abstract painting (with scrapers and other tools) and I always remember seeing her giant paintings as a little girl. They were sooo textured, and I just couldn't help gently running my fingers along the hardened peaks ❤ It's probably the first thing that ever captured my interest in art.
Heavy body is the best kind to purchase imo. Gives you full versatility with the medium, and you can always add water or another mixing medium if you want paint closer to soft body acrylic
That's not true in my experience. I bought some heavy body acrylics by accident and they're really hard to water down. You end up with a clump of paint floating in the pigmented water. If I wanted a heavy texture I'd mix my usual fluid paints with some kind of gel medium (not sure that would work, but I'd try it)
@@ZadenZane Hey to each their own! I think that might just be an issue with mixing or your water to paint ratio, but then again I don’t typically water down my acrylic to a super thin consistency (personally).
@@GEMMiOx I should have explained: the reason I like runny paint is that most of the time I'm using it to colour in drawings to illustrate my children's books, so I'm using it instead of coloured pens or pencils rather than to paint on canvas in a more "arty" way. I needed colours that were permanent (won't rub off like pastel or pencil) waterproof (unlike watercolour and gouache) and fully lightfast (unlike certain marker pens or coloured inks). I'm not saying I don't like those things ( watercolour especially) just that I wanted to invest in art supplies that were versatile and interchangeable and could be used as many different ways as possible. Most of my art is done with India type ink and acrylic colour. I also want to paint on canvas, but that's for decorating my house, a totally separate project!
@@ZadenZane If you really like watercolor, and would prefer to use it, if you could make it colorfast, I'm pretty sure there's a spray you can use after everything's all dried to make it so your colors stay where you put them. I remember using it in high school for a project we were doing with mixed mediums, and I'd started out with my watercolors and wanted to move on to, kohl, I think... it turned out beautifully and it's never had an issue with the colors bleeding. I wish I could remember what the stuff was called, but that was *_SOOOO_* long ago... er, I mean, uhhhh... just a little bit ago... yeah, that's it! That's the ticket!
