Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. It’s so important with any paint protection. The coating companies longevity claims are usually totally achievable if maintenance is done regularly as this video proves. I only agree to coat vehicles now if they get on my maintenance plan. Cheers!
Yeah I agree and have since realised coatings aren't for everyone as to get the best out of them you really need to maintain them. But when done they are incredible and well worth having on a car
100 percent correct. A frequent pre-wash with Mafra Neve or Kenotek Foam or Nerta. Followed by Reset or Kenotek Brilliant Wash or Gyeon. Maintain the surface of the coating in order to maintain the properties. Every coating needs maintenance. I've recently tested the DIY Ceramic Gloss : I recommend it as a last step and drying aid, works on every surface.
So rewarding to watch this coating come back like that after 3 years! I can't help but wash my car every week here in Florida in the US, it's habit from long before I put a ceramic coating on. I might be washing my coating off, lol. My car is my daily, garaged, and a topper is added every wash. I'm hoping for a solid 2 years. Great vid, really enjoyed this 🍻
Very cool to see this coating go that long. I did a car with UK 3.0 over 4 years ago that is still doing well because it's kept in a garage for 90% of its life and only driven on weekends.
Very impressive. I'd love to see you strip this car back when you do it. My big concern about using something more durable than a wax is finally getting rid of it. Thanks for all your efforts
Excellent video mate, this reinforces the idea that if a good quality coating is well mantained with proper washing and toppers, it should last as advertised or outperform
I wouldn’t necessarily say they are a waste but with proper washing/maintenance they aren’t needed! There’s a guy named ScottHD on UA-cam who does only washes on a test panel hood. Many of these have performed excellent without any toppings on multiple tests. Check out his channel super helpful info
The main reason I like using toppers is for adding slickness onto the paint every few washes. The extra layer of protection is also a bonus And yep big fan of Scott's videos
I put CQuartz UK on my van, its out in the elements 24/7, hot california summers and rainy winters. Going on 2 years now and it’s holding up fantastically. I do use toppers though so that may help.
I knew I should have got UK 3.0 lol. I did half my truck with CarPro SiC and half with Gyeon Pure EVO instead. Both look very good but I was not happy with the hydrophobics from either. I had to apply Jet as a topper to get respectable hydrophobics. I think I will start over and try Ethos Max or Ethos Pro.
UK is great for sure but I was planning in moving onto Pure next as when I tested it I was impressed. I thought the hydrophobics were right up there with UK
@@EvolvedDetails I love Pure but Can Coat seemed more hydrophobic than Pure when I tried it. I did 2 layers of Pure on the passenger side and 1 layer on the driver side. The 2 layer side looks just a little more glossier but not much. I did 2 layers of SiC on the hood, top and tonneau cover. SiC has more of a cold mirror look. Pure was a warmer wet look which I prefer. NV Jet has fixed all my hydrophobic complaints.
damn, you just sold me on the Cquartz. If i ever get around to buying a DA, I'm gonna hit my truck with some of that for sure. Really narrowed it down at least to either this stuff or DIY Detail's 5 year.
Good video. Tbh it's been well maintained. Here's an idea for a video. Before the coating is gone, you could test some sealants over the coating, like bead machine, bead king, can coat etc to see how/if they effect the coating. Although I guess you could do that on the test panel.
@@EvolvedDetails going to do a deep decon wash soon to see if comes back but highly likely i’ll have to redo it when the temperature goes back up again
Thank you for the comprehensive tests, just discovered your channel! Great info - getting a new car soon, would you recommend the CQuartz Lite (~$100 + shipping locally) that you also tested or this UK3.0 ($256 imported)? The car will be my long term pride and joy. I’m a novice and will be applying it in a carport. Already have Meguiar gold class, bowden’s happy ending and the medium grade MJJC snow cannon
It's weird the UK 3.0 is so expensive for you as it's only a slight bit more expensive than lite here in Australia. At those prices I'd just go with lite
@@EvolvedDetails thanks I'm in Melbourne and looked around for a while but somehow couldn't find Waxit's website until someone else recommended it. All good now! I don't have anything for the tyres and wheels, which video and product do you recommend? It's a BYD Seal Premium with aerodynamic rim covers.
Just for your notice: If you have a bird dropping and after fast washing it still leaves streaking, you can try to burn it off with heatgun. Carerully tho, it usually does the job without polishing your paint :)
@@EvolvedDetails carefully and slow comes with good results. Just keep you thermometer or hand and see how hot it gets. Thats why polishing works also, it is not polishing what does the trick, heat is :)
Great information thank you! Did you happen to maintain with the “reload” every couple of months? I have applied 2 coats of CQ 3.0 and top coat with SIC. Wondering on how I should maintain it? On one car I top coated twice now with the CQ every year. It seems to be fine without having to strip off anything.
Love the vid mate but the music portion is WAY too loud. Please watch the audio meters when edittng or apply a compressor/limiter filter to use a consistent volume.
Honestly, if you are doing good maintenances washes decon and toppers, a coating will lost forerever. The only reason you may want to remove it is to take out some wash marring or just want to try a new product...or did the coating fail and you are only seeing the toppers?
You can definitely extend the life a lot but will still fail over time. You can see its just the coating on the paint here as i have the dead spot on the bonnet where I had to polish a section to remove bat droppings a while back, So if the car had a topper you'd see that section still performing like the rest of the car
Why not skip the strip and just coat the areas where theres a reduced effect like the bottom of the doors and the back end, saves doing all the chemical strip and mechanical polishing of the whole car just for a few areas?
It's definitely something you could do but to buy a new bottle of coating you might aswell do the entire car again. If I had 20mls leftover after another car it's probably a very smart option to use it up though. We have since sold the car so it will be for the new owner to work out how he wants to proceed
Miles wee maybe 10,000 as it's a garaged weekend driven car. I put the same coating on my black evo that's a daily and got 2 and a bit years good performance from it
Holy smokes this makes me miss my time down under where there wasn´t any road salt... That is effin kryptonite for coatings. My car didn´t look that good after even just 6 months, that´s including using toppers.
I bought some in May 2023, still haven't had a chance to apply it. I wanna do my evo and my merc. How long do you think it'll last in the packet (its kept in a dark place if that matters.

Thanks mate, I think you'll get as good or better life from your coating of you're taking that good care of it.
I better comment before i forget, that's a good endurance test and the manufacturer should be happy with that too 👍
Thanks Jethro, yeah carpro seem to be good at this as their products generally last what they claim or longer
Very cool to see this coating go that long. I did a car with UK 3.0 over 4 years ago that is still doing well because it's kept in a garage for 90% of its life and only driven on weekends.
Yeah I think being garaged and not daily driven can make it last basically double the expected durability
Very impressive.
I'd love to see you strip this car back when you do it. My big concern about using something more durable than a wax is finally getting rid of it.
Thanks for all your efforts
I've found it's pretty easy to remove when the time comes but that is with me aggressively claying the car and then compounding
Excellent video mate, this reinforces the idea that if a good quality coating is well mantained with proper washing and toppers, it should last as advertised or outperform
Yes, exactly right and why I love having coatings on my cars as that effort at the start to prep and apply pays off big time
Coating still looks great as does the paint
It definitely does
Thats a great result mate. Some people say coating toppers are a waste but heres the proof.
Yeah I am a firm believer in toppers now after the last few years using them and testing

As long as the paint was deconed and maybe a paint cleaner applied (hand polish)

Yes i do
I've put a layer of gliss over my CQ UK and keep it topped up with reload after each wash. Curious as to how long it will last.

Do you plan to update how the coating is on the back one at 2 year point?
On the black one you mean?
If so then it's possible but I did an 18 month update on it and am going to be repolishing it soon
Is the CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 more effective when used in its native country?
Probably less as the UK have pretty harsh winters with snow where as here in Australia where I live anyway it's just the heat that we mainly deal with
Brilliant 😊
