Great video and review Thomas! So glad to see the interior materials! Surprised to see the length matching the C Class. I would say just because of the interior materials and this car being possibly being lighter (therefore better performance overall), the CLA would be my preferred choice.
I own a 2018 CLA Turbo Coupe with all the AMG options. The motor does indeed sound amazing when you punch it in Sport mode. Surprisingly fast, especially when you give it the gas in 3rd gear. This was my first Benz and it won’t be my last. Getting a 2021 CLA when my lease is up on this one. Thanks… Your reviews are as good as they get!

I never owned a Cla, because I'm in other segment of the brand. Though is visible how good this product seems to be. I wish my w213 had the new gps system, by the way.

Thomas a small tip for your “Hey Mercedes” voice commands, I also noticed this in some of your previous videos: Most of the time it doesn’t work if you say Hey Mercedes in the middle of a sentence. I have seen it fail to respond in previous videos because of that very reason as well. If you take a little pause before you say Hey Mercedes, then it works from the first time. :). Keep up the great work with Autogefuhl, absolutely my favourite car review channel and you have been an amazing source of info to help me decide on my new company car. PS - it will be the CLA 180d automatic launch edition in black with the Edition 1 trim. :)

@@autogefuehl ok just wasn't sure because I have never driven a dct so to be clear the car does all the work and I dont have to work it like a manual?
@@stephanielopez6275 Dual clutch transmission is just another operation type of an automatic transmission. So it is fully automatic, a lot of those just offer shifting paddles so you can put a gear lower/higher yourself, but that's just if you like and works the same way those paddles are offered for other automatics.

I checked this car today at the dealer. I was impressed it looks gorgeous!! I compared it with the A class sedan and hatchback at the dealer. It's worth the extra money for an AMG line and in white the car looks amazing big compare to the mountain gray and black which makes the car in general look smaller. Overall this looks even better than the CLS. I will definitely make a test drive soon.

Finally; thank you for going on the autobahn y and driving over 160 km/h. i hope you can do it with more cars when you can go on the autobahn.
I’m impressed with the positivity of your review and the improvements both in appearance and function of the new CLA. It appears to be much more car than an Infiniti QX-30 which was the major criticism of the older car here in the US.

As an owner of the car, I know that you can’t get adaptive suspension in the US, and it can be a bit stiff if you opted for the lower suspension. And interestingly, the surprising noise is actually only in sport mode. You can hear the change quite drastically, makes the drive more special. Cool interiors except I have quite a lot of problems with the rattling. But overall, quite a better choice than the a-class sedan since we don’t get the hatchback version, and feels sportier than the c-class which is just perfect for me!

I can't wait to see the new GLA. I never liked the previous generation of Mercedes compact cars but I love the new A, B and CLA so so much. They all look great, have great technology and quality and ride seems improved from what I'm hearing. Don't like the smaller engines though. They should've made the 2 litre and up standard in their compact range. No need for the 1.4 petrol and 1.5 diesel.

I’m very impressed with the voice command and interior materials. I don’t think anything can match Mercedes Benz quality when it comes to interior design quality.
Audi has a nicer interior I would say, quite a lot of hard plastics in Mercedes.
The drivers door is misaligned-too far up when latched. With a solid B pillar, frameless passenger windows don’t really make sense imo. Thanks for the very thorough review.

Had a 2014 CLA and just got the 2020. The technology is probably the most dramatic change, although it had probably been improving between 14 and 20. Besides that, the ride seems smoother and less rigid. Feels more like a luxury car. The interior finishes are definitely stepped up, the exterior isn't all that different. Love it so far.

I don't think I've ever seen a reviewer go as in detail with their reviews as you. You take the time to slam the doors to see how they sound and make note of storage compartments of the doors too. Your signature for your reviews should be slamming doors and taking out a ruler to measure everything haha.

The first CLA looked like a mid-90's Huyndai Elantra that someone had left out in the sun for to long. This is a big step up! Still not a big fan though. Still to soft and it still kind of looks like it's dragging it's rear in the ground like a dog that shat itself ;)

Maybe Mercedes has the best modern interiors. Really love the air vents and screens. What I can't understand is the fake exhaust

Great review! The only thing I'm missing in the review of this and the a class limo is the height of the trunk throughput under the metal bar that you see in the back of the trunk.

Ringsee and Tegernsee is a beautiful area. Loved the driving part. Typical professional Thomas detail about the special Mercedes permit for auto lane change. Glad ride has improved on this, but shame still a cramped feeling front cabin - I prefer an airy and bright cabin. Thanks for the great driving, commentary and demonstration of this (expensive!) car Thomas.

I got mine recently and I don’t feel cramped in the front at all (I’m 1m72) I feel a lot more cramped in my wife’s BMW f20 1-series

Der Genesis ist eigentlich eher als Konkurrent für die C Klasse gedacht, aber die Abmessungen zum CLA sind fast identisch und die Preise sind auch ähnlich. Würde mich freuen.

Say: Hey Merecedes, change Ambient lighting to...Red..or...Blue etc. And it’s done automatically. Otherwise use the touchscreen menu. 🇬🇧🇲🇹👍
Also my favorite grill, I wish this was standard for all Mercedes cars, some of them don't have it even on AMG kit, you have to get the AMG 43/53/63 ones

It’s the AMG package! Which is a add on to the A, CLA and C Class. AMG package generally includes larger rims, slightly different color scheme on the interior, and usually has the more powerful engine . Mercedes only makes a true AMG in the E and S Class. If AMG is not in big letters on the motor it’s not a AMG! The AMG package is great but I feel it’s slightly misleading.
Unlimited speed on motorway? I'm curious as to why that is even a thing. Isn't safety be paramount in Germany?

Unfortunately, I'm 6-2 so I'm on the margins here but it's probably nothing I haven't encountered in previous vehicles.
I like the design quite a bit but the phoney exhaust outlets are a turn off. Especially like the response on the tablets with multiple ways of control. Column mounted shift control is perfect when compared to the double click needed in the Volvo.
Design looks like a real winner and just might be my next car.

How much is this expected to be in the US?
How is the dual clutch in city driving? I recently drove a dual clutch vehicle (a Renault Kadjar) with a dual clutch and it was not good because on a steep incline trying to inch forward it would lurch too much and roll backwards. With a normal automatic (in the Peugeot 3008) I drove after, navigating the incline was smooth and flawless. Does this dual clutch have the same characteristic? I wish it was normal automatic.
I went to testdrive this car a few days ago, it's not really for grown up people... I was almost looking out through the back seat windows while driving.
Was the seats comfortable?

I really enjoyed your video. I'm in the market for a new car. I love the technology and the shape of the CLA. This car is a serious contender for me. (I'm average height). The only thing I wasn't impressed with, was the fuel economy. I currently have a 4.4lt. Range Rover , and can get 32 MPG with motorway driving. At the moment, I'm torn between the 1.5 diesel A class, and the smaller petrol version of the CLA. I do prefer the spec on the CLA though.
You mentioned the car was changing lane itself. Is this function activated by the use of the indicator? Would it change lane itself if you removed your hands from the steering wheel?
thanks! Yeah indeed fuel economy isnt great. Yes indicator. Well for a moment you could take the hands off (but thats not allowed) and the car would also soon start complaining

The pair ought to drive alike too, though Mercedes claims the CLA is the most fun of all its compact cars. Not because it’s any faster - it uses all the same four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines as the A-Class - but because of changes to the suspension. Changes like a multi-link rear-axle for all models - only 2.0-litre A-Classes get it, others have to make do with a cheaper torsion beam and are worse for it - a wider track and beefier anti-roll bars.

Thomas I’m from the UK and only the 35 and amgs get the adaptive damping suspension. What do you think about the regular lower comfort suspension they offering instead? It’s put me off

I am considering this one with the AMG package, which comes with the chairs as in the car you tested... My height is 180cm, do you think that would be too tall?
Well 180 cm is generally ok for the car, but the base sports seats are more comfortable than the optional one with integrated head restraints in every case
