  • The closure of borders due to the pandemic decimated livelihoods in Cambodia, one of Southeast Asia’s poorest countries and the most reliant on tourism in the region. The government reopened its borders ahead of its neighbours, and has big plans to get foreign visitors back to pre-COVID-19 levels in three years. But can its population wait that long?
Meet a group of landmine survivors turned musicians playing at Cambodia’s now deserted crown jewel of Angkor Wat, as well as nearby artisan communities who are hoping to drum up interest among tourists. Meanwhile, villagers from the eco-tourism destinations of Tonle Sap and Mount Kulen are trying to make ends meet, while also struggling with environmental crises that threaten their hopes for the future.

As a Cambodian, If you come to Cambodia I highly recommend you go visit Siem Reap. If you visit Siem Reap don’t forget to visit the temples. Most foreigners think there just one temple Angkor Wat but actually there are alot of temples in Siem Reap such as:
-Angkor Thom complex (there are many others temple in the complex) just 3.3km from Angkor Wat
-Ta Prohm temple (Tomb Raider temple) 7.8 km from Angkor Wat
-Phnom Bakheng (best place to watch sunset in Siem Reap) 1.3 km from Angkor Wat
-Banteay Srei temple (kinda far but worth it) 31.3 km from Angkor Wat
There are many other temples around. If you want to visit them you should rent a motorcycle or take a Tuk Tuk ride.

The majority of the trash and pollution at these natural attractions are from the Cambodian Nationals and Chinese Tourists.. These people feel privilege that they just throw trash on the ground. As a Western tourist that has been to Cambodia 3 times I have witness the mess that Cambodian Nationals leave when they go to attractions or just on walks and shopping. I have seen them throw paper plates in water drains or just leave them on the river walkways. Hopefully the new generation are taught to respect the environment and not loiter.

Well, this was more of a Tourist Advert for Cambodia, and fair enough. However, then we NEED to also speak about the problems that tourists encounter much more than in Thailand, Laos, Malaysia or even Vietnam. Its the SCAM business of PhnomPenh and Siem Reap. Yes, you can encounter scams in all tourist spots in the region, but in other countries YOU have to some degree accept a preposal for the scam to work (for example in Thailand: your own greed makes you buy 'expensive' stones cheaply to sell at a profit back home, or you going for a card game with money which is illegal in Thailand) but the scams in Cambodia are different. The scam criminals are driving around PhnomPenh and introduce themselves as plain clothed Police, and even show Police ID(!). They are first very polite and ask to see your Passport. If you only have a photo copy of it, or just left it in your hotel, the 'Police' will then give you a fine there and then... and if you don't have enough cash, they will drive you to a cash machine. However, if you (as guide books tells you) to ask to be taken to the nearest Police station to 'sort things out' the scam'ers will bwcome aggressive and frighten you with prison and telling you they can keep you for 4 weeks in prison without even contact your relatives... all this is untrue, but it is not easy to stand up to these scam'ers. Their activity has increased after the re-opening of Cambodia, and they do have support(!) from some local Police who are paid off too. This is a BIG problem in Cambodia, and something the authorities not only ignore, but 'let happen' because there are a lot of money involved. An Australian couple had to pay US$1800 before the scam'ers let them go, and that happened as recent as April 2022.

Cambodia could be a beautiful country. I was just there. Wish they’re more sanitary for their own good. I love and enjoyed traveling to Cambodia but prefer to visit during mid October to January. It’s the best time to avoid heat, mosquitoes and flies.
It was ridiculous that most of the airport workers try to scam the Khmer tourists for a few $ knowing that they got paid for their job. Have heard lots of complaints from Khmer people that traveled to Cambodia. So sad that I have to witnessed Khmer doing this to Khmer. Hopefully things will change for better. 🙏❤️

You might need to do more research. If the country only depends on tourism, it would have collapsed even before Sri Lanka. But no, it is doing alright.
Here are some facts you should know before giving a comment:
      - Foreign exchange reserves are around $20 billion (the largest amount small developing nations)
      - Exported goods more than $20 billion last year and will reach around $23 billion this year, compared to $5 billion of tourism revenues during its peak. Therefore, the manufacturing sector is 4 times larger than the tourism sector. Despite the downturn of the tourism sector since Covid pandemic, the manufacturing and agricultural sectors have been blossoming.
      - However, the country still needs the tourism sector to grow faster, but it will survive even with that.

I don’t know about that. The world IQ ranking placed Cambodia’s IQ level higher than Thailand. You have no basis to make such a comment.

All resorts are opened and welcomed local tourists and foreigners.

Welcome to Cambodia only if you can only secure your own safety. There unspoken truth is there is a massive amount of kidnapping, human slave tracking happening right there right now. So, go at your own risk:)

🥀🌺🌻🌷May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED."
God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all l0
