Cardiacs are incredible and Tim Smith is a true genius, recently honoured as such too by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, you’re at the start of an amazing musical journey, I recommend On Land and In The Sea and also Sing to God next , you’re gonna love them
This album changed my life when I first head it back in the 80s, I've never been the same since. Please buy the records - Tim (the singer and composer) has been seriously unwell (essentially paralysed after brain damage following a heart attack) for some time now, and needs support.
Lovely to see you taking your first steps in what will hopefully be an incredible lifelong journey. Cardiacs is a band that stays with you and grows with you through the years. If you want to see the other side of the coin then Sing to God is a must. I'd love to see you do a similar video with that extraordinary album one day!
Great to see someone with open ears and mind encountering Cardiacs. Their combination of theatrical prog complexity and aggressive punk delivery and sheer majestic beauty has entertained and nourished me for thirty years. As others have said, you should investigate the albums On Land And In The Sea and Sing To God, masterpieces both.
In spring 1988 i read a review of this album. The LP version got 5 of 5 and the CD version got 6 of 5. 6 months later i was in London and bought the CD. Fantastic and still is.
Mine too. It's the one that first hooked me. A friend lent me a copy of ALMAAHATWWW soon after it came out and first I thought "this is weird", then "this is funny", then "this is clever", then "THIS IS AMAZING!"
Cardiacs were a "one of a kind" band! It was fun to watch you experience the creative genius of their "Pronk" for the first time. The magic of discovery!
Tim smith and Cardiacs have been said to be an influence to people from napalm death, to blur, to mike patton and even steven wilson! a true testament to his genius with writing music.
really fun watching you enjoy this album for the first time. my personal Cardiacs journey started with this album, then moved on to 'Heaven Born and Ever Bright', and then 'Sing to God' is the pinnacle for me :)
Great to see someone experience Cardiacs for the first time. I introduced a friend to them about a year ago and he rapidly decided that they were his favourite band of all time!
This is so great. Saw the VDGG and Genesis stuff at the back and thought, either he's going to hate it or we are going to see somebody's mind blown in front of our eyes.
Sing To God is the one you really need to do at some point. It's long, but there isn't a bad one in the whole album. And there's never been another album like it ever created on planet Earth. And I know I'm about a year and a half late and a few bucks short, but they most certainly did record these albums with a click, but used several click tracks for the same song, pasting in the parts in many cases. You can hear this, if you listen to their albums closely enough, enough times.
Huh. What was the order of the track supposed to be? I always kind of threw the bonus tracks on the side because it felt weird that they were after what was definitely supposed to be the last track on the album. Would definitely love to listen to it reordered as intended to see what it brings to the table.
Their whole discography is on bandcamp. Like many others have said on here, I'd HIGHLY recommend you listen to Sing to God if you enjoyed this. Nothing else is like Cardiacs.
I got the feeling you couldn't make out the lyrics but the first song was about working in a factory, hence the steamy, industrial tune. This is possibly their most conventional album by the way.
If you've never heard Cardiacs "The Seaside" before, then you should do a listen through or review of that. It's less unified perhaps, and a bit more punky, but is still really kick ass.
So happy to see how much you liked it. Was fun to listen again together. Every Cardiacs album is that good. Try their album Sing To God next or go back to some of their unreleased early stuff like Toy World.
ahhh i'm so happy to have randomly found you when looking up this album ! i'm not a huge prog-junky myself, besides loving gentle giant and king crimson, but i DO love some weird ass music. have you listened to mr. bungle, notes ?
Congrats on completely crashing the amazing intro and its wonderful unfolding, which sets the scene for what is to come. I refer the honourable gentleman to the words of the Grim Reaper in Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life": "You love to TALK, you Americans. You talk and you talk and you talk, and then you say things like "Let me tell ya something!". 🤦🏼♂️
Would be great to see you do a listen of Revere Reach album by William D Drake (on keyboard and backing vocals in this album). In any case, pick it up you will love it.
My fave band ever! You should check out the albums "On Land & in the Sea" and "Sing to "God" if you get a chance too. And feel free to join us on the Cardiacs fb group! facebook.com/groups/2215465373/
Is this the life? was probably the only hit single they had. Its a prefectly fine song, but I never felt it was super representative of the band as a whole. Still, it got them to a lot of new ears. Also RIP Tim Smith, nobody made music quite like this mad genius Also mildly amused yo've blown the names of about half the songs lol
I have to say ‘Cardiacs’ and ‘Faith No More’ are my favourite bands of all time. I wasn’t surprised that Mike Patton was influenced by them after hearing both bands.

Great vid but I hate how he says most of the names of the songs wrong though. I mean especially with Dive, it's one word. That aside welcome to the pond.

Listen to all of them man. Life changing material.

A fabulous, timeless and amazingly creative album by the greatest and most underrated band of modern times.
Cardiacs. Best band in the world. Ever!!❤
In spring 1988 i read a review of this album. The LP version got 5 of 5 and the CD version got 6 of 5. 6 months later i was in London and bought the CD. Fantastic and still is.
In a City Lining is my favorite song of Cardiacs EVER!
Mine too. It's the one that first hooked me. A friend lent me a copy of ALMAAHATWWW soon after it came out and first I thought "this is weird", then "this is funny", then "this is clever", then "THIS IS AMAZING!"
Sarah's saxophone in The Whole World Window always gives me goosebumps! It's going to be the last song I'll have played at my funeral!
Cardiacs were a "one of a kind" band! It was fun to watch you experience the creative genius of their "Pronk" for the first time. The magic of discovery!
Cardiacs, not The Cardiacs!
ESKATON!
Tim smith and Cardiacs have been said to be an influence to people from napalm death, to blur, to mike patton and even steven wilson! a true testament to his genius with writing music.
just discovered the video...
❤ my fav album of 1980s ❤
really fun watching you enjoy this album for the first time. my personal Cardiacs journey started with this album, then moved on to 'Heaven Born and Ever Bright', and then 'Sing to God' is the pinnacle for me :)
The opening song is genuinely a top 5 song of all time for me. I’ve never been so utterly terrified by something that sounds so fun on the surface.
Listening starts at 4:40
R.I.P Dr Tim Smith. True genius.

Oh, please please please do one of these livestreams for their album Sing To God. It'll blow your mind.
my preferred listening experience for this album is the version with the 'bonus tracks' reinserted where they're meant to be on the album :)
Huh. What was the order of the track supposed to be? I always kind of threw the bonus tracks on the side because it felt weird that they were after what was definitely supposed to be the last track on the album. Tim Smith passed away this year sadly. Such a talent.
RIP, Tim.
try cardiacs sing to god next
Their opus and one of the greatest records of all time ❤️
@@schpleeb My favorite Cardiacs album is which ever Album I am listening to at the time. All are amazing in their own way.
I just heard the Cardiacs for the first time yesterday!!!! They are awesome. And I'm so pissed that no one ever told me about them before.
I got the feeling you couldn't make out the lyrics but the first song was about working in a factory, hence the steamy, industrial tune.
This is possibly their most conventional album by the way.
I think guns is more conventional, but out of all their early "keyboard era" albums this one would definitely win that title
Where the hell are you getting these titles from?!
Ha ha, yes. "Drive"? "The Breakfast Lane"? At least he didn't say "R.E.M." :)
If you've never heard Cardiacs "The Seaside" before, then you should do a listen through or review of that. It's less unified perhaps, and a bit more punky, but is still really kick ass.
I clicked on this because I thought the AVGN was reacting to one of my favorite's band favorite album
So happy to see how much you liked it. Was fun to listen again together. Every Cardiacs album is that good. Try their album Sing To God next or go back to some of their unreleased early stuff like Toy World.
My man has good taste. Exceptionally good taste.

Cardiacs changed my life. Best band EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen to Sing to God next. Its awesome!!!!!!
A fan is born. Cardiacs was (sadly) a band that elicits strong reactions. There’s lots more. This is a very strong album among many.
Side one was good side two was inspiring!
Nobody ever expects to cry during this album but fuck, that last song..
Congrats on completely crashing the amazing intro and its wonderful unfolding, which sets the scene for what is to come. I refer the honourable gentleman to the words of the Grim Reaper in Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life":

Diddnt realise there where any American cardiac fans out there
There still might not be, as I'm Canadian :)
Would be great to see you do a listen of Revere Reach album by William D Drake (on keyboard and backing vocals in this album). In any case, pick it up you will love it.
Absolutely genius band.
Loved the reaction to RES. 👌

Haha "I love where this sing is going..." It's going to fuck with your mind lol. I'm just waiting for you to get to Icing on the World 🤭

How are we gonna finish this off? Early-Crimsonily.
I read they actually regretted including this Is This the Life in this album.
Can we hear some of your music?
What happened to “Eating in Bed”?

GET TO THE POINT!
You need to turn down your voice and up the music volume dude
Casually talking over the music like wtf

Is This The Life is probably their worst song btw
