On 4:26 and others before it, I used cross multiplication to solve. I guess is easier. 245/7 : x/2 cross multiply 490 : 7x X=70 I.e for children So add 245 : 70 = 315 as the number of people in the train.
An easier way of looking at it is the ratio is made up of 8 parts, so, from the info given, what's ONE part? It must be 40 sweets divided by 5 parts to get one part, then the share of the other person is 3 parts - 3 lots of 8 sweets.

Sally=25 sweets
