Full Documentary of our 3 years living on the road in South Africa

We are Michael and Acacia, a South African couple exploring our home country. This is the story of how it all started. After school we had both spent our time studying in Durban which is where we went on our first few trips together with the bare minimum basic camping setup. Before our first trip we purchased a tent and slept on the floor that trip! This was when we realised how many beautiful places were just around the corner that we wanted to seek out more hidden gems. Camping trips became frequent when we got the gap until finally our land lord told us that the house we were living in was sold! This was when we packed up everything and fit as much as we could into our Suzuki Jimny and hit the road with not much of a plan. After some hectic weather situates we realised living from the car and our cheapie tent wasn’t sustainable long term but we still wanted to travel which meant we needed to change our mode of travel. We sold our beloved 4x4 and purchased a completely empty Fiat Ducato panel van. We dedicated 2 months to self converter the interior into our dream tiny home on wheels which we avidly named Yeti the Van. We hit the road with no end date in mind and visited over 100 campsites over the next 3 years in our van traversing the scenic mountains, exploring the rugged coastline and everything between. South Africa truly has it all! We even adopt a rescue black cat along our travels who joins us for hikes, kayaks, bouldering and more.

Love your content! I'm planning to join the van life soon, and you guys have been an inspiration. I'm struggling to justify the prices of campsites tho, and I'm struggling to find any info on the cost of van life in SA. Could you give me a breakdown of how you guys do it? 🙏

It all depends on how you want to travel. If you stay at a campsite for a night or two and move on the price for monthly rental does get a lot. But if you book in for a longer period the campsite often gives a discount. If you book monthly the costs are from R2500 - R7000 a month. If you do night by night can easily go over R15k. We slow travelled for like 2/3 months then had a month of moving around a lot and doing activities.
Costs also depend on if you planning to live on the road or just go on a roadtrip. We live in our van and work remotely so us traveling also brings in money and we also did work with campsites who then would actually pay us to come and stay at their place.

My wife and I are pensioners and now travelling through our beautiful country in a caravan, not as glamorous as what your doing but makes us happy.
Just wanted to say your cinematography is very professional, the drone shots are spectacular.
