My pinky just spasmed looking at the actual shortcut. Yeah, I'll just drum R until it's pointing in the correct direction. I work out the pinky enough while playing Minecraft.
Also probably forgot ctrl+left click or ctrl+right click on a clear case of your inventory will automatically refill a building you've got open with whatever products it needs.
Loving the "Factorio for noobs" series (mainly because I'm still a noob at this game). Looking forward to a wiring/combinator/etc. tutorial because that messes with me, and I work with actual circuits in my job.
Katherine, I've been playing Factorio now for many years, but I couldn't resist watching this video *just in case* there was a tip I missed somewhere along the line. And sure enough, there was! I didn't realise that when copying an area from the map (CTRL+C), we can drop the copied selection into a blank slot in our toolbar as a blueprint, and then edit the items which are copied! Many times I've wanted to copy an area, but leave out some of the items. And of course I've simply used copy/paste and then quickly right-clicked on any ghosts that I didn't want. But your method is so much easier. Thank you for making tips videos like this! 👍
What a super idea for a video! I'm sure many beginner players (and, dang, probably many experienced players) have no idea some of these shortcuts exist, and they're SUPER useful. The bit about disconnecting wires, for example, can be kinda counter-intuitive, but important to know. Great one, KoS!
The copy/paste function for recipes on machines also works on requester chests. If you shift-right click a machine with a recipe and shift-left click a requester chest, it will copy the ingredients for the recipe to the requester chest. It also assigns a number of items to request for each ingredient based on the recipe, machine speed, modules, etc. I'm not sure how it determines the amount to request though, and sometimes it requests too many of an item. Either way though, it makes building a bot-based mall significantly easier, as you don't have to manually set filters for each chest in your mall. Hope this helps someone! :)
The amount it requests is automatically configured to request enough ingredients for 30 seconds of continuous crafting. It's pretty useful except in cases of long bot travel times, where you might need to boost it.
I learned a few useful hotkeys, which is what I came here for, but I think I'm going to get much more use out of the phrase "goddess mode," so thank you for that.
These tutorial videos are great! Keep up the good work! Also could we get a tour of the base you are playing in these videos? Would be interesting to see how it is all structured as it looks pretty cool on the map view :D
what's going on here?!? ANOTHER Factorio video!?! This is definitely a Christmas in summer! (well, for a northern hemisphere resident that is :P ) Hooray!!
This is a very well timed video especially with v1.0 finally being released soon. I have recently started playing Factorio so this has helped me out in learning new shortcuts! Thank you! Looking forward to more hints\tips soon!
I personally like customizing these a bit. Alt+1-5 for quick bar 6-7. I also added the secondary control Y for getting in and out of vehicles. Makes for a lot less hand moving.
Dangit KoS FINE I'll start a new factory...most of this is refresher for vets of the game and your videos but still loving it (and picking up a few things I didn't know along the way like counter-clockwise rotation!).
I'm expecting a lot of new players to be looking for information, so many of the tutorials are geared for newbies. Nut I'm so glad that there was some stuff in there that was useful!
I'm trying to find the hotkey to do what I've seen some factorio players do: say you want to move one end of an undergroundie a space or two, I can only press q to select, then right click to delete the original and set it down in the new spot, but I thought I've seen some players be able to delete/select with just one press, or am I going crazy?
Silly question: Is it possible to drop a blueprint on a freshly (re)scanned chunk? This is probably a silly thing to do in actual game, I'm just curious as to the mechanic.
Yes you can. I remember an (equally silly) idea a while ago where instead of evenly spaced radars you put a cluster of 100ish in one place to get active view on the long distance range, since the chunks will be rescanned very quickly.
I used to have this great setting turned on, that when pressing q (copy) and I didn't have the item on hand, it would put a ghost of the item on my cursor. That way I could plan out construction more easily without having produced the machines beforehand. Sadly I cannot find this setting anymore, so while planning I just get a burb when I don't have a particular machine that I want more of in my setup :(
What many would like You to show how to build from scratch a spaghetti based factory - without main bus. That is a challenge and very interesting - the aim of the game is not to be as fast as possible but to have fun tackling complex things
I also feel pity for him... he clearly doesn't understand what the structure is or the humor involved in naming it as such. Who doesn't want to (figuratively) "go shopping" for inserters, belts, etc.? The juxtaposition of widely varying items: e.g. "mall" and "industrial components" has always been a source of great entertainment to me. And having a "sale" when there are faaaaaar too many produced is a lovely extension of the metaphor as well as a humorous admission of a mistake.
Settings > UI to change number of hotbars. Otherwise, click the number of the hotbar to change it to a different one. (There's a hotlkey for switching... I disabled it XD)
THERE IS AN SHIFT-R?!?!?! OMFG just for that the Video was already worth watching. For years, i used R until it pointed in the right direction PepeHands
I believe you have to have finished the game once before the option is available. (Otherwise, I believe you can unlock with a console command: check the wiki)
I have 834Hrs in this game and I love it! However, I have 100s of saves where I get to (blue science, I think?) and stumble to a halt. It gets out of hand. (Also I like to play "aliens don't attack first.)
Since you research things from the very beginning of the game, and that is basically the driving force of the game.... it should be obvious that some things need to be researched.
You kno' since you're occasionally referring to _Goddess_ Mode... Someone made a female character model - Just Saying. That being said... The Wire thing... OMFG 😑
1:42 Are you sure? Are you sure the hotkey to rotate counterclockwise isn't R+R+R? Because that's all I've ever known.
It is for me too! hahahaha
My pinky just spasmed looking at the actual shortcut. Yeah, I'll just drum R until it's pointing in the correct direction. I work out the pinky enough while playing Minecraft.
Sometimes i will remember that shift R is a thing, but while im holding shift ill still spam R, just in reverse. oof
3:08 you can also put all your inventory in the chest with shift+left clic on a clear case of your inventory^^
Also probably forgot ctrl+left click or ctrl+right click on a clear case of your inventory will automatically refill a building you've got open with whatever products it needs.
Shift-{{number}} will swap the active hotbar. Useful for setting up hotbars for different activities. Thanks for the video!

Placing the mouse over any item and pressing Q puts that item in your hand, this is one of my most used keys

Ooooh, Enter has always bugged me because it was too far away! I'm going to add that one ... or maybe middle mouse click...

After 1 year, just a small note, I think the map tag with right click has been removed?
Yep, alas it has. Now made more inconvenient.
@KoS will you start a new factorio series with the 1.0 launch for our amusement, please?
I will indeed have a new series!

If you want an idea; I'd like to see Car Science (sp?)
A while back I was going to suggest a feud with Nilaus over his hatred of the term 'mall'. Not sure if you would find the humor in such a thing.
I do not find feuds humorous. They are childish. I do life in co-op, not pvp :-)

How do you get 4 hotbar slots?
It's in the UI settings.
