APC UPS Battery Swap - Smart SC 420

Hey UA-camrs, here is a quick and simple guide on how to change the battery on an APC Smart UPS Smart SC 420. This model was released over a decade ago and is still current and available to purchase from the manufacturer.

btw, the battery is hot-swappable. Just tried it on my SC620 while it was plugged into AC. Thanks for the video.

You can use 12V 9AH VRLA battery - they are the exact physical dimension. A better option: extend the power supply cables so you can connect to an external 100AH ~ 200AH VRLA battery so you can have 24 hours power backup availability during a power blackout.

You need to know what the power draw is in total. 260 watts power draw will give you just over 5 minutes to safely shut down. Here’s a link to the product page where you can enter your power draw and it will tell you how long you should get:
