Hi Tim, thanks for making the video. Just wanted to let you and the community know that I had my e-scooter stolen last night and it was locked with a small Kryptonite lock around it's neck, attached to that exact city bike lock up your video. I came out to find the lock there, fully intact, but the scooter gone. I think this would have happened with ANY lock that was simply around the neck. Bummer. Working towards a 2 lock method and maybe an alarm for my next scooter. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Ride safe! - Brooke
I also had my $2400 Kaabo Mantis King GT scooter stolen two weeks ago in Oakland. I had that heavy Kryptonite chain locked around the connector between the stem and the base, figuring that was the place the scooter could not be slid out in either direction. Came back to just the chain and my helmet locked through it, but scooter gone. I'm not sure if they disassembled it somehow or if there was STILL enough slack to slip the scooter through somehow.

I bought my first electric scooter and was so excited about it. I went to Home Depot and bought the biggest lock they had. It cost $60 and was as big as my fist. I had a thick cable and was happy about it. I rode it up to WalMart 6 days after I bought it and I just assumed I was supposed to keep it outside. So I rode it up to the bike rack right outside the door. I didn’t feel great about leaving it there but I told myself I was only going in and out so it would be quick. Before I went inside I used the app to remotely shut the electronic dashboard down and lock it. So it couldn’t be used by anybody else. I was in Walmart for 3 items and I walked out the door 9 minutes later right before they closed. I rounded the corner and my scooter was gone. I felt a lump in my throat and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. They had a roaming security guard in a vehicle just driving up and down the parking lot. So I walked out to talk to him and as he was driving toward me I stuck my hand out and waved for him to stop and I was walking up to meet him. At the last second he swerved around me and kept driving. I couldn’t freakin believe it. So I spent 15 minutes chasing him down until I finally cornered him and he couldn’t move without hitting me. I use a small disc lock, and a hidden GPS tracker. I never lock it to anything. I just leave it by the door. Mine is a heavy dual motor with a big battery. Very unlikely that someone will pick it up to steal it. If they can’t ride it, it’s safe enough. AND, my home insurance does cover it anyway.
@@TimsElectric Time to lunch, or shopping for something. If I’d ride it to work, I’d leave it by the door, only inside and charging. 😁 I ride the scooter only in the nice days of the summer, when the commercial streets are closed to trafic. It’s like a summer long festival or street sales, with lots of pedestrians and some bicycles. I ride it in the mountain too, that’s a huge park with many good places to go. Activities, belvedere, lake, restaurants and terraces, sporting facilities… When I need to travel further away, I prefer to use a motorcycle kind of scooter.
I lost my 3 wheel electric scooter, the guy stole it. I need to know if it is possible to install some kind of a remote tracking system that can shutdown the power to scooter remotely via phone app?
I utilize a Sold Secure Diamond Seatylock Mason U-lock, a Seatylock Viking Chain lock and 2, 113-decibel vibration motion alarms with sensitivity settings that is remote-controlled. These physical locks have the advantage of being slider-cylinder locking mechanisms as opposed to disc-detainer that big brands such as Abus and Kryptonite use, making them far less susceptible to seizing and failing (lock picking is virtually non-existant among bike thieves so the easier to pick slider-cylinder mechanism is no big deal). Not to mention, they are also muchcheaper thanks to the 0 spending on advertising the Seatylock brand invests on (that's why you also haven't heard of them). For the cherry on top, I conceal the scooter (and the bike rack itself) with a waterproof bike cover that has integrated holes that can be secured with a cable lock so the thief wouldn't know exactly what's underneath it. If they dare to even tamper the cover, they will get startled by the 2 motion alarms before they even get to see what it covers!
Awesome @chaxologist2961, I'm going to go and check out the brand as I haven't heard of it and love the extra layer of protection you get by covering it up :) Cheers and thanks for sharing :)

it is 100% worth the money to have it. I do not use mine for the scooter or bicycles though because it is so heavy. it is a great chain to lock up equipment in the bed of my truck or anything that needs to be really secure. if I could find a way to carry it on the scooter other than in my pack pack I would use it for that but it just is too heavy to carry comfortably.this bag he shows in the video looks interesting.

Most secure way to keep your scooter safe is fold it and carry it with you. If a store gives you crap tell them to hold it behind their counter otherwise you say it's coming with under my arm.
Be careful using that disk brake lock. It can bend your diskbrake. And that’s an expensive fix in many shops. You’ve been warned. If a great idea, but make sure the wheel can’t move back and forth. And when you insert the key, don’t insert with force because that increases the chance it will bend more and more over time.
"that’s an expensive fix in many shops" No it's not. A new brake disc is about CAD$15 and you can easily do it yourself. It's one of the simplest repairs.
Put an AirTag under your deck board. It is the only way you are ever going to be able to leave your scooter behind and not worry about it. If someone takes it you can track its location with your smartphone right up to the thieves doorstep and ask for it back. They cost $30 and it’s the only sure thing and thieves won’t be able to find it.
@@phraker5709 You can put an AirTag anywhere on your scooter. I put it down the side of the battery and then cover it with that expanding foam which is water resistant and becomes super tough. But to your point. Thieves have no idea that something has an AirTag attached to it. So yes, a thief can remove an AirTag. But they are not even going to know it’s there and I don’t know of anybody that is going to steal a scooter and then dismantle the entire thing to look for an AirTag that may or may not be there. On top of this, just looking for the AirTag is going to take time. I’m talking about leaving my scooter outside a store or something. My phone is going to alert when the scooter is moved, which means I will be hot on the tail of whoever takes it. They will not have time to even look for an AirTag. If they manage to take your scooter into a house and you can track it there, I believe the shock of having the owner on your doorstep within minutes would freak most thieves out and you can probably get your stuff back. But if you have any trouble at all then the thief is basically asking you to involve the police. Most thieves just don’t want to go there.
@@adamlv1" Thieves have no idea that something has an AirTag attached to it." Yes, they do. AirTags have this really annoying anti-stalking feature where they will notify you on your phone if you're being "followed" by a tag that isn't registered to you. Samsung's tags will also notify the thief that they are being followed by a tag that is not registered to them. The only similar device that doesn't do this is the Tile, with Anti-Theft mode enabled.
I can open Kryptonite bike locks in about 3 minutes. The pick is available at most locksmith supply sites. That red disc lock about 3 seconds. Why carry a lock that weighs as much as the scooter when you can just carry the scooter? 🤯
That's not what the orange cord is for SMH. It's for the handle bars. Attach it to the lock and handle bar, so if a person moves or touches the top of your scooter, the alarm will sound.
Hey there! I just came across your video on "escooters" and I must say, I appreciate the effort you put into creating informative content about these electric scooters. As an ebike user, I stumbled upon an exciting new crowdfunding project that caught my attention - the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike. The outstanding feature of this bike is its ability to be charged when in indoor mode! With its brushless 750W motor, impressive torque, and top speed of 20mph, it seems like a game-changer. The 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant fat tires ensure a smooth ride on any terrain, while the Smart Saddle Detection+ feature adds a unique touch of fitness and technology. I'm really excited about this project and can't wait to support it. Kudos to you for showcasing great content!

I haven't had any HUGE issues with this lock yet! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfyHDlEqk6hqu9acdvK5NGzZsGKSokSbv It seems sturdy and like it will get the job done. I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!

Would you recommend the regular size kryptonite evolution 4 Chain lock or the mini version? (I get the price difference but wondering if it's too long or too short)
Personally i'd go with the short one, it would be long enough for my needs
Can you put a link where to get the black and orange one

How did you fit the disc lock?
unlock it and slip it on the disc ....then the plug goes through the hole :) @PowerLocsTV

Thank you Tim! 🙂
you're welcome @alyssasafraj5208, happy to help :)
I don't own a lock i just take my scooter in with me and no store has ever refused me and if they did i would just shop elsewhere.
my sentiments exactly :) :)
What about a bar
Hmmm with the way you locked that chain lock what's stopping me flipping the e scooter and moving the chain over the handle bars? 🤔
@Xighor oh gosh, did I do it wrong? Absolutely you're right, you need to double wrap the cable so it can't be lifted off :)
THNKA YOU
@@TimsElectricOh another is to lock it around the base near the front wheel. It works really well as they can't just try to slip it over something.
Best to wrap the chain around the scooter or pole like a coil to remove as much slack as you can. Figure 8 snake it going under then above.
@@Airbender24B💯
That’s exactly right as more slack easier to slip over etc
I use a small disc lock, and a hidden GPS tracker. I never lock it to anything. I just leave it by the door.
Mine is a heavy dual motor with a big battery. Very unlikely that someone will pick it up to steal it. If they can’t ride it, it’s safe enough. AND, my home insurance does cover it anyway.
Wise @sergefleurent7942, how long would you leave it there? Enough time to pop in and out or an 8hr shift at work?
@@TimsElectric
Time to lunch, or shopping for something. If I’d ride it to work, I’d leave it by the door, only inside and charging. 😁
I ride the scooter only in the nice days of the summer, when the commercial streets are closed to trafic. It’s like a summer long festival or street sales, with lots of pedestrians and some bicycles. I ride it in the mountain too, that’s a huge park with many good places to go. Activities, belvedere, lake, restaurants and terraces, sporting facilities…
When I need to travel further away, I prefer to use a motorcycle kind of scooter.
thanks for sharing :) :) Cheers and safe trips :)
Which is the lock that you didn’t name and just skipped over ?
Kryptonite is the brand I recommend :) Ulock, chain or long chain :)
@@TimsElectric also there was folding lock I think

I lost my 3 wheel electric scooter, the guy stole it. I need to know if it is possible to install some kind of a remote tracking system that can shutdown the power to scooter remotely via phone app?
there are trackers out there but I haven't heard of remote shut offs. You could ask the dealer?
@mn18_ Let me know what you find out :)
I used that kryptonite. My motorcycle was stolen in brough day light. 3 guys used a grinder
OM$G that's so awful to hear.....three guys and a grinder and no one called the cops? @Jmitch767
Can you get any of those locks at any bike store or at Anazon?
I got them from Amazon...I think I put links below the video :)
Can’t some just unscrew the handlebar?
It's not that easy with most scooters but of course if yours comes off go through the rims 😉
Just bought one of those big level 4 Kryptonite locks, it looks exactly like the one you used in the video
I was starting to have a bit of buyers remorse, the thing was very expensive!
Watching your video made me feel a lot better about it
Good choice! I think it will give you peace of mind...personally I hate leaving a scooter alone...but that lock is amazing :)
it is 100% worth the money to have it.
@@AsTheWheelsTurn absolutely! I just got mine in the mail and it's so heavy - I have no idea how I would carry that with my scooter.
What if they cut the brakes
that would suck :(
I wish you would' have mentioned how heavy the kryptonite lock is. I bought it, and I don't know how I'm going to carry such a heavey item.
I wrap it on the stem :) it's heavy but it works :)
I think it's best to when a person wanting to go inside the mall and have to lock it and the most concerned about it is
Walk inside the mall about 5 second
And go out watch for the thief
and go back to the mall for the short time shopping and always don't leave eScooter alone always watch over
@LQ_ 324YTT I just walk my scooter through the mall...then thieves don't have a chance :)
@@TimsElectric yea unfortunately my country does not allowed to have eScooter inside of the mall 😔 I guess your country different than mine
Hope enjoy your eScooter
@@Unexpected_Funny2001 that's not fun :(
Do they have trolleys that you can push in and out of the store? For groceries? I don't ask, I just push my scooter around wherever I go...Malls, Grocery Stores, Restaurants and even when I get a massage. Only one Karen said I wasn't aloud and she wasn't an employee just some random Karen shopper trying to be helpful :)
Most secure way to keep your scooter safe is fold it and carry it with you. If a store gives you crap tell them to hold it behind their counter otherwise you say it's coming with under my arm.
@bands I'm with you on that...I don't ever leave it out ..but if you have to...then ...
@Bands great idea, I'll just carry around 36kgs with me whereever I go.

ahhhhh Awesome vid!! Thanks!
Awesome @SpencerPhotography, glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice one Tim! I might need to look into the alarm one!
seems like a smart idea :)
Thanks for the tip!
"that’s an expensive fix in many shops" No it's not. A new brake disc is about CAD$15 and you can easily do it yourself. It's one of the simplest repairs.
You want to lock the inferior bar. A thief can remove the handle and take away the battery and weels base, which is the scooter in itself
good point @FERNANDOPENAS, best not to leave it anywhere it can be stolen :(
No matter how u lock it even to 1000lb posts; if I want it it’s mine, I’ll take the whole post too
100% correct @DiemNguyen-mz7hp sad but true :(
Put an AirTag under your deck board. It is the only way you are ever going to be able to leave your scooter behind and not worry about it. If someone takes it you can track its location with your smartphone right up to the thieves doorstep and ask for it back. They cost $30 and it’s the only sure thing and thieves won’t be able to find it.
that's a terrific idea :) :)
Cant they take off the air tag if they know to look there?
@@phraker5709 absolutely ...but most thieves don't watch my videos :)
well that blows up my entire video lol @petemitchell6788, I typically ..in fact always take the scooter in with me ....much safe that way :)
Cant injust take the handle bars off
Awesome @Taypet28, yes of course on some you could...but it takes time....all you can do is slow them down
That's not what the orange cord is for SMH. It's for the handle bars. Attach it to the lock and handle bar, so if a person moves or touches the top of your scooter, the alarm will sound.
Awesome @gammacrush3351, thanks :)
This is why they have told fold and be carried. Neither of these would stop the hoodie chavs on my council estate ! Everyone ignores alarms
sadly if they want it, they will take it :( @nin9249

you need a scooter carrier...like an Ebike rack but for scooters :)

If they want it they'll take it 💯 don't chance it if you can't keep your scooter in reach leave it at home. Sad times

I hope you don't have folding handlebars ot some thief is going to have themselves a brand new scooter and you will still have your kryptonite lock lmao
haha, yes indeed @JohnnyDaytona-qd5eh

Awesome @danakinscheuer, to hear...customer service is key :) pun intended :)

My main advice to people buying a scooter is to move away from cities
lol
It's not worth living outside the cities. There is a reason rural is so sparse. People like people unless you're a trumptard
Double lol

It’s a city micro mobility. You move away, then it’s a toy.
