Its always the darned car. This is why I don't camp much. leaving a car somewhere is always a problem. Towing, vandals and thieves. Best to hike, bike or just get dropped off.
I often just hike in, however in many years of using the car and leaving it overnight all over Scotland this is the first time I have ever had a problem - and Ironically I was 3 miles from home!
@@buzz5969 Yep - I regularly bike in and get dropped off, I didn't park there for the drama - I genuinely believed it wouldn't be a problem as I had parked there before when walking my dog and it was literally miles from the gas plant.

I camped in an old WW2 lookout on Skye years ago. Luckily nobody bothered me but I was up in the morning but yes the car……the fuzz are paranoid about parked cars they think everyone should be home tucked up in bed like little children. Here we simply don’t have that problem as it’s so remote and everyone goes fishing overnight or to a remote cabin. Nobody worries about cars and you can leave a note at worst case.
A very good video, if that had been entered in the history challenge, i think it would of been in with a good chance of winning. . When you first told us about the bust, i thought they had found you camping, which would of been fair enough to move you on, but to just find the car parked legally and phone the wife , was just a big over reaction !!!

The problem was they didn't ring me or my wife (which they could have done as they have my details) but chose to go to my house and bang on the door and then get stroppy with my wife - a poor show on the part of the cops!

I am well versed with the rights of access in Scotland, however sometimes it's just better to go home if you have a problem - this was one of those times😀
As I said in the video - there is no MOD land in the area, it is a piece of privately owned land that is patrolled by the MOD police - I was a long way from it where I parked and camped.
I enjoyed the history bit. Living and cycling a lot on the east coast, the WW2 stuff is a constant companion. The coast north from Aberdeen is a very enjoyable place for touring on big tyred bikes. Ratray Head and St Fergus have a very other worldly feel and I hope nobody is put off from visiting.

Pity about the police carry on spoiling your night. I'm always paranoid about leaving the car for any length of time and will usually leave a note on the dash if camping as I've had do-gooders call out mountain rescue/coast guard before when I've been camping or kayaking which is both bloody annoying andna waste of time.

My camps are probably not true stealth camps to some and I guess they are more like low profile wild camps - I don't do the urban camps. I am a history nerd so most of my locations usually have a historical link of some sort. The car thing could have been avoided - the PS cop massively over reacted and the whole thing could have been avoided if I had chosen a better parking spot - lesson learned for me😀

i used to live in the NE Scotland for 20yrs, in my experience 1 of the disadvantages is that there are few real crimes, so the police have bugger all else to do, so to the local police this is a major incident, lol
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. They could have easily traced your car to your mobile and just rung you directly or even triangulated your phone. The banging of the door was a fear tactic so you wouldn't do it again. The response was not proportional.
It's not always an option to get dropped off and I like the "plan b" option of having a vehicle available to bail out if needed - parking in a public place shouldn't be such a problem.
I went to use old WW2 site which was used as a car park and the local Police came and gave me the big Q about what I was doing there. They made a fuss then drove off...
you need to make a complaint, and get some compo, as a threat to arrest, is considered an assault.? HNK Liverpool seem to be the best at dealing with police claims. in case of future police issue, pse instruct your wife that when dealing with the police, get your phone out and record it!!.

@@theinvisiblecamper i take it you live in the NE Scotland, i used to live in/around Buckie, 1 job i had was working in the forest/tree plantations in the Huntly/Elgin area, some times i had to leave my car on the road/gate, then get a lift by tractor etc, to stop the police/other people from bothering me. i put a A5 notice on he dash board, in big text, stating : 'This car is not stolen/dumped/abandoned/brokrn down, the owner is near by, bla,bla,bla etc, perhaps you should try that, my save you some time/others messing abt, ? regards g0whf
Funny you should say about a sign - I made one yesterday that says "I am nearby taking night sky photographs" and it has my mobile number which should stop the same happening again. I have never had a problem before and have been abandoning my van all over Scotland for many years with no issue - I guess I was a tad complacent as I was five minutes from home.
Not my first rodeo - I know I could legally park where I did and camp where I did, but from experience know its not worth arguing you rights to camp with a police officer in the middle of the night. I may go back in the future but dont tend to camp in the same place twice as I am luckily not short of place to camp near by.

Ok note where they saw your van, If it's there for too long without you they can start to worry.. we have the right to roam here so there is no problem with you camping in that bunker. I often use a trangia particularly if I'm going full on stealth and have also been bought a better gas stove for cold conditions - i think the problem was both cold and a half empty gas cartridge - the new stove cope with both better. Thanks for your comment.

It's not just in Scotland, many other areas of the UK too, lots of examples of law abiding citizens being treated badly especially since the whole convid restrictions.
Seems like overzealous policing to me but these are uncertain times. If they went past your car several times and it was still there one can understand their concern not just because someone could be a potential terrorist but because the owner of the car was nowhere near it in the middle of the night. Cool to camp in the old pill box, ours look so inferior to the German ones but as you said in the commentary it was just to slow things down, the reality of any invasion would be the pill boxes being take out in no time at all.
Why do these guys seem to have fetish for army surplus camouflage. I am ex military, and never wear camo, got the t shirt, got video, move on with your life.
The game is stealth camping. I don't believe he has a sexual paraphilia for wearing camo. I think he doesn't want to draw attention to himself whilst "stealth camping"
By these guys I guess you mean Me - I wear surplus gear because it is good hard wearing kit, it is cheap to buy and the camo helps you blend in to the background which is the whole point of stealth camping. Oh yes I'm also ex military and never saw it as "getting the shirt" - I don't wear camo gear round the house, but when its the right kit for the job I do. Thanks for your comment.

I see it's the same there as it is here.the police just say the same thing go home or go to jail.
The reality is I could have argued and stayed as I could legally camp there - but after the shock Mrs P got it was only right I went home.
The law is that you can't camp in an immediate garden or on a "Crown Property". If you were on neither of these then you should go back.

You should wrap your gas up in newspaper so it works in cold weather failing that use some meths and triagia

I am ex military, and never wear camo, got the t shirt, got video, move on with your life.
The game is stealth camping. I don't believe he has a sexual paraphilia for wearing camo. I think he doesn't want to draw attention to himself whilst "stealth camping"
By these guys I guess you mean Me - I wear surplus gear because it is good hard wearing kit, it is cheap to buy and the camo helps you blend in to the background which is the whole point of stealth camping. Oh yes I'm also ex military and never saw it as "getting the shirt" - I don't wear camo gear round the house, but when its the right kit for the job I do. Thanks for your comment.
@@theinvisiblecamper i wear a mtp smock when im camping usually and take a bergen, as you say good hard wearing kit , ive always liked all the pockets in the smock , ex army also and not trying to re live the glory days , its just fairly cheap , tough reliable gear 👍🏕
The man can do what he wants, its surplus equipment it works so why wouldn't you use it? Its cheep and proven, The only one going on military is you!
