I'll tell you right away why I find this upload very helpful! Actually, the UC is where it all started, and for many of us, before the market was flooded with too many products that are ... almost the same. The UC does what it's supposed to do. And for a competitive price. Then a short quick finish with the SONAX Perfect Finish ... that's all you need. And very easy to remove oxidation manually. Just think of hard-to-reach places, bird droppings, etc. With an LHR15 and various pads, the options are endless and effective. Greetings.
I'm saying this before watching the video as I've not found UC to be all that great. Certainly not noticeably ahead of even cheaper ones. I bought it because of the reputation so it will interesting to see how John uses it and rates it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
When I corrected my 2016 5 Series, the paint was rock hard, and of all the compounds I had on hand (Menzerna heavy cut, M105, and Ultimate) Meguiars worked the best. It also has very little dust, and a pleasant smell.
I also used this product when I made my first attempt at paint correction on my car and was very pleased with the results. I think it's a great product that doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Both the compound and the polish work quite well, even even in direct sunlight if you have no other choice. Added bonus, it's always available at my local Walmart, for CHEAP. These products, combined with Seal&Shine, super budget all stars of paint maintenance and protection. Great video Jon!
I learned how to paint correct using this product back in 2010, I found on black cars it hazed and would have to do a second pass with Meguiars Polish, now to be fair I was learning, and I haven't used the compound in years. I did keep it just in case I have some old car that needs a touch up. At the time the compound/polish combo worked great for me, I probably could still be using it and do just fine. Thanks for the video, always enjoy!
I’ve just discovered your fantastic channel and detailing through necessity! My car has taken a bad hit in the past week, 1. Washed while being serviced and there must have been grit on the garages sponge. 2. While at work it got covered, (every panel) in tar spots (1-5mm) as an adjacent footpath was being repaired. I am now prepping a wish list to get to repairing and the only thing I already have is meguiars UC! Fantastic channel and methodical approach to all you do!
Interesting. I polished a Volvo once. I tried different combos during the compounding-stage. When I used D300 like a two stage-polish, first pass with 4 criss/cross motion - buff off - and the second pass with 2 criss/cross, it worked pretty well. I still had to refine it with something like SonaxPF or similar. Then I started to look for possible options in my little arsenal of products, because I was doing something like a three step combo, which is very time consuming. I kept the MF cutting pad, but switched my Meg's D300 with two dots of UC and two dots of a diminishing cutting compound with long working time - and boom - I had made myself a good one step for that Volvo- paint. I was thinking of getting rid of my good old bottle with UC before I polished that Volvo, because I thought it was too much of what we call a "consumer-style" product. I promise you, I will never throw away UC. An old lady as you say, and it is a really good product to use, for everybody, at least if this is detailing geek/freak -show is a hobby of yours 😂
Interesting 8 minutes describing the investigation and the causal factor that resulted in the marking of the paintwork. I created a very long and heavy mark on the paintwork the same way all along the nearside, caused by brushing slow and hard along a recently cut hedgerow in the Lake District, when negotiating giving way to an oncoming vehicle on Hardknott Pass where there was no passing place nearby. Thanks for the demo. I was going to use the Meguiar's scratch remover, but just did as you said and took my time with the ultimate compound then the polish and then the ultimate wax. I'm very impressed. I have been a big fan of Meguiar's Ultimate range for many years and can’t praise them enough. I have always been impressed with the show piece the products create and its longevity. I am in the process of moving over to Bilt Hamber purely due to many car valeters on UA-cam highlighting how good it is. I hope BH gives Meguiar's Ultimate a run for its money, in terms of value for money, creating a show piece, and longevity.
For what they are these products (both compound and polish) are amazing. For the price, accessibility (here you can walk into any auto store and pick it up), and ease of use, you will struggle to find anything better. It just does everything well and what it says it will do and introduces detailing to the masses. Nearly anyone can pick up a DA and this polish and take to the paint and make a noticeable difference. Also, not to mention it can be used by hand easily making it even more accessible.
This video is priceless 😂! I love the honesty and crazy humour. Really love your channel mate! I learn so much as a new Detailer. I often feel like a good buddy having a friendly chitchat with me
Definitely the best compound polish by far, tried so many and this always came out on top and so easy to use, just finished my son car with it and sealed with a wax, results Wow 😊
Great Video Jon. This product has stood the test of time and is so easy to use. Rather than get the machine out, I fix small scratches with a dampened Megs Microfibre polishing pad and apply lightly using a number of passes until the desired result is achieved. I used Farecla G3 originally, but Megs UC requires minimal finishing with the 205, which is my go-to polish.
Love Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Leaves a fantastic high gloss finish without the need to follow up with a polish. Tried several different compounds and find Meguiars to be the best.
I never thought you'd be able to get them especially when you did the finger nail test. Amazed. A neighbour's dog has jumped on the bonnet of my car & it appears scratched to pieces. Thanx 🙏I'll give Meguiar's a go
Makes me want to do the job I have been putting off. I got a few very fine lines from arguments with the sides of the overgrown country roads. Battle scars on the Land Rover is more forgiving in my brain - like you are allowed a few tiny marks🤣🤣👍👍
If you can’t get your nail in them, wet flat using 2000’s then 3000’s on a block and Machine polish with some cutting compound such as 3m Fast Cut Plus. Bit of polishing using a waffle head and your choice of finer cutting polish to help remove swirls and BOSH! Job done my friend.
Most clients have no clue about how much time it takes with this process... "Omg it looks beautiful! - it took how long?" hehehe... Very nice work here...the process CANNOT be hurried. Meg's Ultimate is a pretty decent go-to!!
I used this today, bought it last month to do my black corsa! It did dust up & didn’t remove a lot of fine scratches I expected it too. Did remove all the spiderweb scratches. 6/10 from me.
Crazy!!! I’ve had that stuff on my shelf for ages and alway pick up mezerna or the pink 3000 meguiars instead, always thinking that the ultimate compound is just a glorified t cut. I shall definitely use it next time based on this Jon. It also looks like it is less dusty than the mezerna can be. Cheers 👍
same here. i didn't realise it was an all in one and have been using rupes uno which doesn't seem to have enough cut to remove heavier scratches. definitely gonna give this a go next time
Next door neighbour did the same to their Kuga, I have taken the opportunity on a few occasions to do a free repair, it gives me the practice and they get a repair for nothing, I don’t have a lot of compounds, Scholl S40, CG sample pack that came with the DA, Koch Chemie 3 grades, Mezerna, a good selection of pads. I have managed to totally get rid of branch scratches altogether, don’t remember what I used,
It’s a great product, been meaning to get some more. It’s one of the few polishes that I can use by hand on small scuffs and it actually leave a decent finish.
I had the exact same looking damage, even down to the chattery bits, down the side of my black Astra J VXR once. That was also caused by a thick stick poking out of a hedge that I had to move over towards because a car came the other way. It literally managed to catch every panel down the side. Starting at the front bumper it then moved upwards over the front wing, smacked the wing mirror which sent it back downwards onto the door, carried on across the rear quarter and then exited over the side of the rear bumper. The only reason I was down that road was to give my father in law a lift to his Christmas do and he'd offered me the use of his car, which I'd turned down, so I didn't use my petrol. It was dark at the time and I saw the stick at last minute as the oncoming car's headlights caused it to cast a shadow. I remember not being able to sleep that night and was straight out the next morning sorting it 😂
I find meguiar's ultimate compound and ultimate polish fantastic!!!. These are my #1 on black lacquer pieces. I used several combos but it was always quite aggressive enough not to have the perfect finish. While ultimate compound with a meguiar's DA burgundy pad followed by ultimate polish with meguiar's DA yellow pad, and the finish is perfect!, I think the products stay lubricated enough to protect the fragile finish and contain the perfect cut for this substrate!. M105 & M205 where M110 & M210 work well on black lacquer but don't get the ultimate finish! Maybe still too abrasive and less lubricated?!. On the other hand on body paint my favorite combo remains M110 & M210 see M205 if I want a little more bite on harder paint.
Excellent video, very helpful..thank you. I'm looking to use the Meguiars compound and polish to sort my oxidisation on my Volvo S40. I'm trying to save money - without having to pay for a spray paint job x
Tried to use this product twice by hand on 2 separate occasions 1 a black car and a red car both times looks awesome close up but stand back to admire my work and theres loads of marks in the paint smears etc had to rub like crazy to remove gave up used a panel wipe and a different product 🤷🏻♂️ I’m assuming I’m going wrong somewhere but really cant get along with this product never had this issue with any other polish.
Great review. My car is glossy and looks nice, just there are light swirl marks and couple of light scratches, is G17216 or G19216 suitable in my case and is it ok to use G17216 on glossy looking car, thanks in advance.
Hi John, thanks for all your videos. Watched one of your videos on Kpch Chemi FSE because i was having some trouble with water spot build-up. I've switched my thinking to Car Pro because Koch Chemi FSE might degrade Ceramic Coating fast. There is a great video showing this. I will link it for your community in a reply to this comment. Thanks again!!!
Meguiars products do work, and work well. Its just I don't like paying the money for them. i recently bought a megs drying towel, the big yellow one, not the new one (i had a gift card, so meh). Good product, nice drying , just soaked up water and never stopped.
I used this quite a lot when I ran out of Autobrite Direct compound, I wasn't that impressed at all to be fair. That doesn't take away that you have great results there.
I had a huge scratch along the side of my Mk1 Puma once, it looked like someone had gone down the side with a pound coin from the rear quarter to the front wing, that’s not nice because you can get it repaired only to have it done again. Then, a while later ( months ) whilst in my study I watched the neighbours kid and his friends wobbling around my car on their bikes. Later I had a look and the scratch was at the correct height for handlebar damage. 🤬
I definitely like the Ultimate compound and polish, and the pads that go with them work well too. Plus, in Australia they are quite cheap too compared to Sonax, Rupes, Scholl etc.
Yesterday I bought the cheapest DA polisher I could find on Amazon, then some 2000/3000 grit sand paper and some Meguiars Ultimate Compound.. And wow I and family members were impressed. I will be trying it tomorrow on the paint work after decontamination to see what kind of results I can get. I would like to get some better pads for the 6 inch polisher though to see how that affects the results.
Terrific review of this product. I've used it for a while now and it definitely has it's place in my roster. What are your thoughts on the 3M 1,2,3 lineup (heavy cut, compound, polish)?
Thanks for the tip, I have a light scratch on my black sapphire paint, so I'll try this product with my new Carbon Collective Nano Hex Polisher. Some of the foam pads are badly misshapen in the box when it was packed, so is there a way to restore their original shape?
Jon it would be great to you rescue a cars paints that is worse than the golf. I think the video would do well too! I would love to watch to a full paint correction on this motor.
Hi Jon you made me love Scholl concepts so these compounds are not for me your fault lol, have you never tried lake county 4000 pad washer, I bought one and never looked back, the only thing it could do with is a lid , keep it up matey 👍👍👍
Edited- I literally typed "has she driven through a hedge?" Just before you mentioned it 😁😁 Does she watched your videos??! Have you done any vids on taking care of cars with factory matte paint?
I've been thinking about buying this DeWalt polisher for some time l,finally got it out of my mind then I see this video and I want it again.Have you ever used the Makita polisher with forced rotation,if so has does it compare to the DeWalt. Thanks great video.
I’m sold… need a bit of that on my Audi. However…. I don’t have a whizzy spinny polisher… How much pressure and elbow grease should I use when using a ‘manual’ applicator for the polish?
Had good results using this on my mk2 Golf Gti with tornado pink paint 😁 less scary on cars with laquer though, used it on my Nova too and the yellow pad turned blue afterwards, with golf there was a slight red tinge 😂
might have to give this one a try at some point, not getting on well with my Auto Finesse Eliminator at the moment, Im doing it by hand but I at least expected it to do something...
only realising now that his is an all in one. i've had it months and thought it needed to be followed by a finishing polish set so bought some rupes uno which is decent but doesn't give enough cut to remove any more than light scratches
Hi Jon, You said you’d just cleaned the car beforehand, was this just a snow foam and shampoo or did you do any sort of decontamination before polishing? TVM! 😎
I had this swore someone had run something down the entire side of my car polished it best I could few days after same again polished it again then found a single bramble sticking out af a hedge (single track road) on my way home from work at speed you couldn't see it
I've just bought (from Fartface Marketplace of all places) a used OEM six-dial facia for my 1985 Vauxhall Nova (from a 1.3SR the same age as my 1.3L). However, I can see some light swirls on the perspex surface of the screen. I obviously don't want to go aggressive, but is the Ultimate Compound ideal for dealing with these marks? Would just the Ultimate Polish be good enough?
I just knew you were going to say a bush, I did exactly the same thing the problem is my car is ceramic coated and try as I might the scratches will not go as the coating is so hard and the scratch compound (not meguiars) does nothing with hand polishing, any ideas what else I could try. or do you think the Meguiars might be better, have you ever had the same problem with a coated car yourself?
Jon, I when I started using a random orbital in 2013, Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish were my weapons of choice. Green, blue, and red Hex Logic pads, and I was off and running. I still use them from time to time. Always brings back great memories of all the fun I had in those days. These days I tend to use a lot of 3D, but Meguiar's is still in my heart! I really love their M110 and M210 as well.
I knew exactly what happened as soon as I saw it Jon 😂 Wouldn't you think that your missus would know you long enough by now that she couldn't get car related stuff past you 😂😂 so funny that she owned up as soon as you said you'd ring your sister.
Hi! Representatives in my country say that you can not use as I want: Ultimate Compound and after the application of ceramics, but I insist on mine) they recommend using hard clean polishes, but I'm afraid to erase the varnish🥲 Can you please tell me if this polish is suitable for removing minor scratches and after applying nanolex ceramics? Is there silicone/wax and other nasties or is it still a regular fine abrasive polish? Thanks, sorry for my English.
you really have to ask maguiars whats in it mate. But as far as I know its a pure abrasive so you could use it to buff paintwork, then degrease it, panel wipe it and coat it. but check with megauirs mate.
My wife’s black Mercedes convertible had less damage than the golf. I think my pad was too soft for the job, but it was my first attempt with a compound and totally agree that this product is easy and idiot proof
I could see it instantly. That this was branches from a hedge or similar. Done it myself once, backing up a dark dirt road
My wife is constantly doing this to her cars. I’ve had to polish these scratches out of all her cars on multiple occasions 🤦♂️😂🤦♂️
Yes when you take a car offrode we call it pin-striping
Before I got in the detailing products addiction I used the Ultimate polish and compound for years... really solid products
Totally agree with you about this compound, I did our car with this, plus followed by ultimate polish and wax, and got a fantastic looking car.

@@terencejay8845 - Can you explain this further? And be more precise.

Another wicked combo is Seal "N Shine & TW Ice Spray Wax.
@@hartlanddetailer5670 unfortunately, the ICE spray wax isn't available retail in my area, that I've seen anyway.🤷♂️

Timely 👍 Briers sticking out of hedges this time of year and painted mirror housings take the brunt. Great video.
Use ultimate compound myself on isolated scratches, can be quite abrasive using by hand as leaves lot of marring so machine is best.

I really like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, it's really good for how easy it is to use... I guess it's an equivalent to Scholl Concepts S20.
I definitely like the Ultimate compound and polish, and the pads that go with them work well too. Plus, in Australia they are quite cheap too compared to Sonax, Rupes, Scholl etc.
Hello man you did a great job that compound is amazziinngggg 🎉🎉 is finish all screch
I've used it a few times and it reduces scratches a little but doesn't get out swirls for some reason using multiple different pads too.
Great job John. Well done 👍 👍👍👍👍👍
funny you done this vid, was thinking of giving this ago instead of using S20 like I normally do on my Audi S4

Terrific review of this product. I've used it for a while now and it definitely has it's place in my roster. What are your thoughts on the 3M 1,2,3 lineup (heavy cut, compound, polish)?
I've not used these yet n8
Great video, just one question do I need to purchase a DA polisher and if so which one for DIY use. Thanks
in UK either DA9 from in2detailing or a DAS6 pro from clean your car mate. those are good starter polishers.
Edited- I literally typed "has she driven through a hedge?" Just before you mentioned it 😁😁
Does she watched your videos??!
Such a comic video dude
Can easily be a stand up gag
SOOOO relateable
Had good results using this on my mk2 Golf Gti with tornado pink paint 😁 less scary on cars with laquer though, used it on my Nova too and the yellow pad turned blue afterwards, with golf there was a slight red tinge 😂
Great video. I would love to know if its possible to remove small scratches from a windscreen. That would be the video for me. I hate the ones I have.
Glass polish like Ceriglas for example with a rayon pad...if you have a polisher that is. Not sure how well it would work by hand...
Hi John great videos can I ask you about ceramics is it true they act as dust repellant I will be trying it anyway thanks
might have to give this one a try at some point, not getting on well with my Auto Finesse Eliminator at the moment, Im doing it by hand but I at least expected it to do something...
So after the compound would you not need the Ultimate Polish Jon. Cheers great series
To refine it more yes
@@ForensicDetailing thanks Jon.
Cheers Jon from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 have a good weekend
Ultimate compound is good , I have compounds 4 times the price which aren’t any better , ultimate polish is good too
Chris Fix uses this.. if its good enough for him its good enough for me!
How about testing out spray compound ? think it`s exciting have not tested it out myself yet hehe :-)
only realising now that his is an all in one. i've had it months and thought it needed to be followed by a finishing polish set so bought some rupes uno which is decent but doesn't give enough cut to remove any more than light scratches
Jon, I used this today remove holograms as a polish stage after a heavy cut.
Does this product need a quality wax or sealant after!!?? Thanks
It needs a wax yes m8
It’s sad, but I know some shops that would wet sand and buff those out, but charge customers for full refinish. 🤬
Hi Jon, You said you’d just cleaned the car beforehand, was this just a snow foam and shampoo or did you do any sort of decontamination before polishing? TVM! 😎
I don't think I clayed
Hi what pad did you use/ do you recommend with Ultimate Compound?
Flex purple m8
What pad is that. Is it The lake country orange light cutting pad. 🙏awesome work 🫡 to you.
I think it's turtle Wax which is like the lc CSS pad
Can I ask what amp hour rating your De-Walt batteries are please?
I have this product myself it’s brilliant 🤩
Hi what pads did you use with the compound?
Thanks
I knew exactly what happened as soon as I saw it Jon 😂
Wouldn't you think that your missus would know you long enough by now that she couldn't get car related stuff past you 😂😂 so funny that she owned up as soon as you said you'd ring your sister.
Hi!
Representatives in my country say that you can not use as I want: Ultimate Compound and after the application of ceramics, but I insist on mine) they recommend using hard clean polishes, but I'm afraid to erase the varnish🥲
Can you please tell me if this polish is suitable for removing minor scratches and after applying nanolex ceramics? Is there silicone/wax and other nasties or is it still a regular fine abrasive polish?
Thanks, sorry for my English.
you really have to ask maguiars whats in it mate. But as far as I know its a pure abrasive so you could use it to buff paintwork, then degrease it, panel wipe it and coat it. but check with megauirs mate.
Can you cut by hand? I understand it would take much longer but wondering if it's possible.
its not viable but yes you can mate.
8:50 I do exactly the same haha, sniff test. Funny how we are all the same... Great video, like the back story too, brilliant work 👏 👍
Would anyone recommend using this by hand? Maybe not to the level of scratches on this Golf!
Some swear by MPF, perhaps the Golf needs bubble wrap ! [Mrs protection film]
Really good compound to use 👍👍👍
Anyone know what pad was being used here? Sorry if I missed it?
Can this product be successfully used by hand on piano black plastic exterior ‘B’ pillars??
digging out any scratch by hand is hard but yes m8
Thanks for the advice
Great if you can use it inside but in direct sunlight it flakes all over the car-not ideal on a hot day.
Hello man that polish compound meguiar is it good for normal stone chips ?
you cant polish out stone chips mate
Hi what results would u get if I was to use Polish pads/cloth not a machine to use on the car
Lakelands
My wife’s black Mercedes convertible had less damage than the golf. I think my pad was too soft for the job, but it was my first attempt with a compound and totally agree that this product is easy and idiot proof
Bad wives...mine is good at avoiding kerbs and bushes but wears bloody diamond rings so scratches on windows and door handles...😡
Was under £10 yesterday on Amazon 👍
