  • We're going to end the debate on who the most impactful Valorant players are in the World. Check out www.immortalroadmap.com/platoon for premium coaching!
In this video we calculate some more meaningful metrics which tell us much more about the impact of a player compared to K/D, rating, or KDA to help us end the debate once and for all on who the best Valorant player was in 2023.
Thanks to www.augment.gg/ for providing all the data for my research!

yo, at the start of the video, you showed a piece of code with if statements and methods to calculate the impact and ratings of players. For this, does the code also directly take in data from the matches or do you have to import the data as a spreadsheet/vlr link? Also, is there anyway to share the code to read?

Why wasn’t Lock/In used in the data set? I feel the charts might look different I think Chronicle especially (although not best player contender) is pulled down by his poorer performance at Champions compared to Masters and Lock/in and more data would be better + I’m interested to see how it changes the data. Is there anyway you could compare/publish the data with lock/in added?

you shouldve done a stat of how much their deaths "decrease" their winrate with the same matric and subtracted it with the impact to show real impact. someone can get a lot of winning kills for their team but also a lot of losing deaths. for example if your team is up 5v4 and you die you make the round 20% more winnable for the other team, because you lose the advantage for your team and go from 70% chance to win to 50%.

After thinking about it here's my response that I also posted in the thread but can't pin because I have to keep my sponsor up 😄:
A lot of people have commented on considering deaths as impact lost into the last statistic and here are my thoughts on it after thinking for a bit:
It's certainly a great point but the issue is that impact of a kill if traded does not become 0. In fact, many top players have the opinion that an entry who gets the first kill and dies is very valuable, because they took initiative, challenged space, gained info, and then started the chain of trades where your team is much more likely to come out on top. It's true that a kill that isn't traded is "worth more", but how much more? In the end it's better to just treat them all the same and let the statistics balance themselves out instead of applying an artificial value.
What do I mean by balancing itself out? If you think about it, when you live later on into a match, you inherently will have the opportunity for more important kills. For example, if you kill every single player bringing the round from a 5v5 to a 5v0, you only earn 50% impact, but if you clutch a 1v1, you immediately gain 50% impact for winning. The statistic naturally balances out these situations.

@@platoonvalI think adding up deaths is really important to level it out, mistakes lose rounds and are as important as good plays that win rounds. On top of that, teams with more rounds won in total may be skewing the data? From all the teams you analyzed you'd have to level it out to for example the highest common number. If a team won 340 rounds and lost 310, then analyzing 310 wins and losses would make sense. Otherwise a team that lost more as a whole may have lower percentage of 'round winning impact kills' across the board, and it depends on who they played against, etc.

Great video! One thing I’d suggest considering is counting in the importance of getting a kill on a certain player, getting the first blood and etc. For example, LOUD lose 80%+ of rounds where Aspas dies first. This means that getting the first blood specifically on Aspas increases your chances of winning that specific round in a 5v4 scenario by more than 20%. Would be fun to look at those results and who knows, maybe even see a drastic change?

I think this is very cool, and makes me want to get my hands on the data to mess around with it. I think that analysis does somewhat seem to undervalue utility. Since teams are pretty much static, it would be possible to explain a lot of the kills as being in large part from good utility. While capitalizing on the util is important, I think that the way the data is interpreted here over-emphasizes it. Generally the reason that Leo is brought up as the "best" is because he "makes the fewest mistakes". Even though Jingg and Aspas do great, the value of not using util at bad times and vise versa can be more impactful overall.
I have no idea what the best way to measure would be, but perhaps also comparing each player's winrates in XvY scenarios against the average would be interesting. It would also provide some balance for the non-dive and non-contact roles against the first blood stats.

Def. a interesting take on the topic. I was actually thinking a lot about all this. In my eyes and after searching through like tons of statistics, one name always comes up in most important ratings: Leo. Dude can shoot, dude can clutch, he has a lot of impact on almost every game with kills, utils and assists, he's gaining a lot of info, anchoring like hell, delying the whole game or speeding it up when necessary - simply an insanely smart player and in my eyes the currently best one in the world.

  • @Hello-wo4sx

I'd be super interested to see a death counterpart to the last statistic. that is largely weighted toward duelists because they take the most first engagements and second in because they can trade and bring it back to even, neutralizing the advantage, however those players are also far more likely to give up the advantage to the other team. one of the reasons leo is so good is because he is almost never first dead, and contributes the least advantage to the other team by dying, regardless of the advantage he gains for the team. If you had a statistic that weighed these against each other that would probably be the most indicative statistic of a players value i can think of and i'd be shocked if yay 2022 didnt top this list by a mile. great video though! i love these types of complex number analysis videos for digging up more information than is obvious!

I feel like the use of utility, which can't be quantified, is what make "valorant best player" debate actually pointless. If there was a way to calculate statistics of for example "how the use of utility helps to win rounds for the team, per player" and have like "weighted averages" considering utility is used different regarding team roles (duelist/initiators/sentinels), it would give a sense of a complete comparison between players, not just regarding kills or death. That's why for me, Leo is top 5: His usage of utility is second to none in my opinion
As you said in the video "the best team will always triumph over the best player" and that is what makes valorant, valorant.
    Phenomenal work!

This is a very interesting video about solo players when it comes to their skill in the game but i think its impossible to take into account everything when it comes to mechanical skill and impact of the players actions in the game i think this is a good analysis but we also need to take into acount the roles of the people in the team whos taking these first fights whos playing an agent that has the right to get these first bloods and trades easier whos comms are allowing for easier wins such as the igls of each team like boaster is probably a underskilled player for the level he plays at not in all matches but there is a clear difference in mechanical skill between him and aspas or him and alfa but if we look at his IGL skill making these split second decisions that can change a loss to a win that has a huge impact on how the game is going. This is a really interesting way of seeing this data but i dont think its actually possible due to missing data to see who has the most impact this is the same with the new Sen winning afreeeeca tv with the addition of johnqt who makes these split desicions its really interesting to see his impact with those igl strats and comms ect.

While the video is very interesting I do feel like a lot of important statistics can't be calculated in a good way, to name a few:
Bringing a 1v5 to a lost 1v2 might not win you a round, but could be massive depending on the economy and clutching a pistol round probably leads to another round win.
Another important statistic is utility, kills might win you rounds, but good utility gives kills.
And then there are the two that I feel are the least talked about but also most important, shot calling and mentality, shot callers are the core of the team, and staying calm under pressure is in my opinion the most important skill.
