This particular concert was in Japan but fans do travel from all over the world to Japan to see them perform, and Japanese people do the same when they tour internationally. Babymetal have been around for nearly 10 years now and have 3 albums. Every song is different from each other as they like to explore different genres and styles of music. It is impossible to put Babymetal into a box, which is part of their appeal. The name Babymetal refers to the birth of a new genre of metal called kawaii metal, which they started. It also refers to the fact that the words Babymetal and Heavymetal look and sound almost exactly the same in Japanese katakana writing. It has nothing to do with their ages even though they were 11 and 12 years old when the band first formed. I liked the reaction and I hope you do more Babymetal in the future. I can guarantee lots of support from fans.
Babymetal is also well known outside of Japan. They toured in the US last year and performed at The Forum in California. They did a Europe tour this year and there was supposed to be a Asia tour and some more shows in Europe but that might not be possible anymore.
And performed with Lady Gaga in the Superbowl of 2017, and had as guest in their concert the singer of Judas Priest, Rob Halford in 2016. They have three Albums, several World Tours.... Lot of stuff since 2013.

When they started metal in Japan was on a downward slope, getting no air time on radio or TV and with bands playing to a shrinking audience as the Japanese music industry was increasingly dominated by the Jpop/Idol system. It may be no coincidence that metal and rock in Japan has increased in popularity since 2010 when Babymetal first started. One of the things their producer hoped to achieve was to bring a new audience to metal and rock by using the Idol system against itself. Just echoing Jeff Schreifels comment - I had to look up what weebo meant when I saw it in comments a couple of years ago (it didn't apply to me, so I've ignored the term ever since), I don't watch or care about anime or manga, but I am also a huge fan of Babymetal. They came to exist in the first place because of Su-metal's (the lead singer) voice and talents and they've continued to grow and thrive for those same reasons plus the hard work and talents of Yui and Moa, the Kami Band and everybody else involved. Try more of their songs (ideally live performances, that is where they are at their very best) and you will have trouble finding any two that sound the same.
Yes it was, but before flying to the world, I witnessed 20,000 mobilizations in two days at a Japanese Budokan. This made the youngest record at Budokan.

I don't know how I forgot the Budokan shows were before they played in the west, so yes they were becoming big in Japan already before their international success - but maybe my point was still valid and the international success helped to get them even more noticed afterwards. It can't have hurt anyway.
I'm so glad I discovered BABYMETAL! I have never had so much fun with music before, I have never smiled so much. They are a live changing experience. If you are interested, please check out other songs, their catalogue is very diverse, you definitely won't get bored. But it doesn't end there, they are so much more than just the songs. The instrumentalists are fantastic, the dancing is incredibly entertaining, their cuteness and smiles are more uplifting than anything else. And as you have noticed, their crowds are special, too. Their live shows are as good as it gets.

They have opened for the following bands Metallica, Judas Priest, Guns & Roses, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Korn and Lady GaGa. The have headlined arena shows in Los Angeles (The Forum) and London (Wembley) and have appeared on the late night Colbert Show. They are far from a niche Japanese group.
Not to mention their album "Metal Galaxy" made it to #13 (in it's debut if I remember correctly) on the Billboard 200 back in October 2019, which I personally found pleasantly surprising given the musical vomit so prevalent in the US

Original member Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) announced she was leaving the group for health reasons in October 2018, but had not been on stage with BABYMETAL for a year before that. They announced the previous night (June 28th, 2019) that a dancing support role would be rotating between three new "Avengers". They are Riho Sayashi (former Morning Musume), Kano Fujihira (current Sakura Gakuin), and Momoko Okazaki (a Sakura Gakuin graduate). This is a non-singing role. Every BABYMETAL song is different, so there's a lot to check out.

Might be an interesting statistic: first Asian group/act to be first on the Rock Album Chart on Billboard in the US.
