Making these long, super extensive life cycle videos is one of the things that made my channel populair. But sometimes it's just hard to keep going; my channel is demonetised by UA-cam. When people click on my videos, I don't make a single dollar. This channel runs on donations from my viewers for 100% ! Consider subscribing to my Patreon for as little as 1$ per month: www.patreon.com/BartButterflies - it massively helps! On Patreon, people can buy a subscription. Patrons also get unique rewards, like voting on content, personal FAQ videos, or participating in my videos once in a while. You can also support me on Ko-fi; send a tip through Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/bartbutterflies - through this platform, users can send small finacial "tips" to support their favorite artists or creators. And when we hit the tips goal on Ko-Fi I make a special episode as a reward too. Thanks for reading; I hope that what people perceive as 'e-begging' doesn't come off as annoying or entitled. I understand I am not entitled to ANYTHING for just making videos :) and I appreciate every viewer that watches my videos and comments; whether you are a sponsor of mine, or not. Truth is I have to bring attention to this to keep making the kind of content that I make! Your crowdfunding is what makes it possible, or these super long, specialised, niché videos for a small audience would be completely unsustainable for me to produce.

I think your the one that provides the Museum winkel in Nijmegen with those wonderful butterflies and moths. I just got myself some Argema mittrei - komeetstaartvlinder and a Morpho didius. And now i subscribed to your channel. greetings from Rotterdam.
Hello Bart Coppens, very good video! Im a Brazilian fan of yours and i would like to know if there's a chance that in the future you would come to Brazil again and make a moth trap in the savannas of cerrado? Your videos inspire me to be a biologist in the future and study insects too
I actually had a puffball character that I didn't realize I accidentally based off of the lunar moth like these fellas and it's cool looking at the real deal!
Hey! Have you ever tried putting the males in the fridge? I do this a lot with the North American moths I raise, and it can prolong fertility by about a week, and can prolong ability to mating Natur by about two or three days in males. It also works with a females, but from my experience, putting them in the fridge completely inhibits natural matings. That would require hand mating as a result. I think it’s still a good option, though, Rather than them dying.
This works great for some species. I've kept males under continuous light so they don't fly, or cold in my basement or outdoors to prolong their life... HOWEVER... I'm reluctant to do with tropical species. The cold can kill some of them. But for species from the USA or Europe it's worth it, they are adapted to survive cold

Is it possible for them to emit some kind of hormones or signals while still in cocoons? To warn their brothers and sisters: don't eclose at the same time...? What if we separate them and put cocoons at different places, does it work?
That seems unlikely to me in all honesty; they probably respond to similar environmental cues. In the wild I doubt the cocoons would be in close enough proximity for such cues if they existed for example. But it cant hurt to try of course..
Because I am very busy right now and my pace of making videos is very slow. But people need something to look forward to (I need to keep their interest)
