I grew up in Montreal, so when the trailer for Rabid came on TV, the scene of these vampiric people biting passengers on the metro/subway freaked me out big time.
Well, Pauline, in the 1950s Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" broadcast convinced radio listeners that aliens from Mars were coming to America. Media gullibility is a universal issue.
And George A Romero was one of a kind. Notld was inspired by John Matheson Last man on earth. But at least Romero made it his own! Hell was going to put pies to kill the zombies at one point. Now that's original! Lol
I just got the scream factory bluray of this.Seen it before but it's been awhile.Cant wait to see it again.David Cronenberg is a great director.I've enjoyed a lot of his movies.Ahead of his time.
An excellent movie made by the master of body horror David Cronenberg . The filming is well made the colors are natural ( not like in todays movies which i'm tired to see blue-ish, green-ish, yellow-ish techniques which isn't natural at all ) . The car accidents and explosions are well made and are more convincible than todays ones which are more made in CGI . This is not a zombie movie but more rather a "rage" movie when a dog bites you , you get the "rabid" it is more like an infection ( similar to what 28 Days Later was about with those apes/monkeys it has the exact similar plot to this movie ) Marilyn Chambers acting was very good as she was beautiful and . All porn actresses from that era were more natural over todays ones too much plastic surgery and other bottox . This movie never aired on television in my country Belgium . Glad i got the chance to see it by a friend who bought the VHS late 80's . And later on i have bought the two-pack DVD from Cronenberg's early movies Rabid and Shivers another masterpiece .
Turns 45! This is one of my favorite films by David Cronenberg The film has such a quick pace it's non-stop carnage Love that they waste no time getting to the terror elements This also became one of the highest grossing Canadian films of all time Plus considering everything happening with the latest pandemic in our point in time this film shows a scary version of that magnified Even something as vaccines that are supposed to reassure our minds prove to be inefficient Martial law is even shown here to stop the spread of infection making it a bit too frighteningly realistic along with checkpoints complete with escorts and cards for verification Chambers is spectacular here being the victim of a sickness she started and can't control her bloodlust A very scary score, sweet makeup effects, and a terrifying portrayal of a viral outbreak with issues of a hypersexual society, in which bodily technology has far surpassed our moral capacities
After seeing this movie at the theater(1977), I spent two weeks sick to my stomach,, the green puke really got to me... I watched it again about a year ago and was amazed at how little green puke was really used.. I think when the baby got eaten, it was so outrageous at the time, it effected me in the worst way...
SPOILERS: I think it's so weird how the thing comes out of her armpit and injects the doctor at first, but then it's all just about people biting each other after that. No more armpit tentacles. It's really not explained.
Nah she gets a few more dudes with the armpit tentacle, plus her best friend with the glasses, who insists on taking care of her, gets it near the end of the film.
Awww man this came on yesterday and I ended up turning because I thought it made no sense. If I knew it had zombies in it I would have kept watching. She had just started attacking people with her armpits
Tonight is the night. Dusk till Dawn movie marathon at Midway Drive In Theater in Sterling, Illinois. Night of the Living Dead The Fog Rabid Humanoids from the Deep.
This movie seems to be inspired by The Night of The Living Dead, from 1968, and at the same time, helped as inspiration for the Dawn Of The Dead, 1978.
@@paulscofield5444 I know that both were Romero films, that's not the influence I was talking about. I was talking about Rabid and Shivers influencing Dawn of the Dead and Demons. Even if the previous films were influenced by Night of the Living Dead, they weren't exact copies.
Your mum must be very special lady, or maybe it`s just you who are very special? I was born in 78, is your mother good looking? I bet she prefers younger guys, i qualify, you know. Hook me up if she is. :)
I love the way how Cronenberg always knew how to combine Bloody-brutal horror with psychological drama.
Combinate, that’s a new one on me. Well done.
That’s definitely the major reason why he’s one of my favorite directors
Well this one was a comedy, at least imo. LOL
This movie is ahead of its time. I feel like a lot of people are Rabid on Saint Catherine Street in Montreal
a remake will be made.
They predicted "28 days" by Alex Garland

Or Zombie like People too.
Thus film caused a bit of a rabies paranoia in the UK in the late 1970s I still remember thr posters warning at ports and airports

Nothing beats watching this movie at work in the middle of corona epidemic with a mask on.
So this is where 28 days later came from.
Everything is inspired by something man. Just like this was inspired by romero's early work.
And George A Romero was one of a kind. Notld was inspired by John Matheson Last man on earth. But at least Romero made it his own! Hell was going to put pies to kill the zombies at one point. Now that's original! Lol
It's the walking dead too
I would say REC is more accurate
Among many other influences. All works contain many others, either consciously or not. It's called culture. Or experience. Or memory.
A cult classic. Thank you master Cronenberg!!!
he most cerntainely is a master of horror!
Now I see where 28 days later got their idea. Never knew there was a movie like this in the 70’s.
Quarantine as well
@@TheTarheel757 Quarantine is a "remake" of REC.

100% agree.👏👏👏
Rabid is one of my favorite David Croenberg/Zombie-ish/Virus Movie ever too so much.
One of the strangest, most original and unusual plotlines of all.
"You can`t trust your mother, your sister, your neighbor next door". You can always trust your AK. :)
Yup.
Unless it jams or backfires.
Fantastic horror film from a true master director. I remember even the trailer giving me the chills when I watched it way back in the old VHS days!
That's what I have this movie on VHS. I also watched this movie on pay cable back in the mid-eighties.
@@earlmartin1030 I watched it on VHS in the mid eighties too
i just love the way he says RABID
This old version is really worth seeing, much better than this new 2019 version with no shadows of debt, much more interesting
This clearly was the inspiration for Dawn Of The Dead
And Night of the living dead was the inspiration for this.

How were Covid vaccines inefficient?
Cronenberg is a genius. We watched this last year, and was happy to know that we didn't watch it during Covid and lockdown!
Marilyn Chambers won her only Oscar for this film.

She was never even nominated for an Oscar.
She also received a Golden Globe nomination for “Insatiable.”
